Ibn Bajja is an example of what appears to be a valuable work of philosophy that has been lost in the abyss of history. What we know of him is what others have said, and his manuscripts might have told us only so little. That's quite unfortunate.
As for this book, although I appreciate it, it seems that the author was very fond of Ibn Bajja; perhaps too fond. If it is true that we only have so little of what he said, how can we be so sure that his influence was as described here? I am not denying that he was very influential (due to what later philosophers had to say), but it is safe to ascribe this much of an influence from what we have in our possession now? Simultaneously, and in order to highlight his influence in Philosophy, a distinction was made between the study of Philosophy in the Eastern and Western parts of the back then Islamic world. It seems to me that the prior was underestimated while the latter was somehow overestimated. They are different, and there is a certain extent of correctness to what the author said, but is it true to the degree of exaggeration I touched? It might have been true, but we just want a validating source for that.
All in all, it was a fun read.
