When Max Sawyer found his parents brutally murdered two weeks before he graduated from high school, he decided to leave Hellenston, Arkansas and planned to never return. However, when he receives an early morning call that his old high school girlfriend was arrested for murder and needed his help, Max answered the plea and returned after more than a decade away. He becomes embroiled in intrigue and revenge as he faces demons both real and imagined. In time, the small town streets of Hellenston become more dangerous than Max expected.

Max Sawyer is independently wealthy and living a life of luxury. One morning he’s shaken back to reality by a phone call telling him an old friend has been arrested for murder. Wanting to help however he can, Max finds himself returning to the town he once called home. The town he thought he left for good ten years ago.
Blood Remembered is an interesting whodunit that kept my interest through until the end. The plotting is well-paced and doesn’t slow down and, like good mysteries, the clues are plenty and it’s up to us to sort out the real clues from the red herrings. However, the book contained so many typos and grammatical errors, not to mention formatting errors in the ebook I read, that I was too often taken away from the story, focusing instead on the mistakes. And it’s not that I expect perfect writing from authors, but when I see problems between the use of “to” and “too”, then that signals sloppy writing to me and that’s a problem.
Credit to Douglas Pratt for writing a book with a convincing plot and characters, publishing that book and putting it out there, but I hope his follow-up goes to an editor before publication.
For Max, You can't go home again has special meaning. Movies and songs are written about this theme. But the most tragic memories prevent this event from ever happening. Until he sheds his inhibition to help a friend, with a pocket load of special toys.
Going home to Hellenston, Arkansas, Max is facing the worst that anyone could ever imagine.
Max finds friends, enemies, a strip club, several brutal murders, gets a beating, gets laid, and you'll fall off your seat laughing at what causes crazy! Do nice guys finish last? Not to Max.
A rich unlikely hero we want to hear more about. Hopefully there will be a sequel! I want more of Max!
The beginning of the book is a little slow, but once it gets going, you gotta read it to the finish. There are many twists and turns which have you never knowing what's going to happen next. The lead character is a little cocky, but what main character isn't?
I get money for nothing and chicks for free”, Max Sawyer referring to his life as a multimillionaire. Sounds crude, but intriguing, I love this guy! Douglas Pratt introduces Max in Blood Remembered, an entertaining murder mystery. He takes Max back home after ten years gone to help an old girlfriend and he finds truth in “you can’t go back home”. Proof of that is found as a page turning search for the killer led to a pages flying, no way possible, end. A great goodread, “who dun it” fans may be stumped. So glad this is a series, a guy like Max Sparrow makes you want more. Will definitely read his next, Baptism of Blood. Thank you Douglas Pratt, I get to escape reality with a puzzling mystery and exciting, engaging characters. That’s worth more than typos and how you spell to or too.
I think I’m going to really like this series. This book introduces Max Sawyer as a young multimillionaire who lives in Memphis. He reluctantly returns to his hometown in Arkansas when his high school girlfriend is accused of murder. He left 10 years before after the murderers of his parents wares sentenced. His father’s law partner and his own attorney is now the prosecutor. He teams up with the editor of the local paper, Lisa Day, to clear his friend. There are plenty of suspects and lots of suspense in this one. Didn’t take me long to devour this one.
This is the 1st book in the Max Sawyer series. There is a prequel novella (Blood History). I haven't read it yet, but will before continuing the series. Max Sawyer is a millionaire drifter who returns home after years of being away, to help a long time friend who has been arrested for murder. Besides paying for her defense, he also investigates the crime in order to clear her. Other people end up dead and he has to prove a connection. This one starts out a little slow, but picks up steam as it continues. There are 2 surprises at the end that I never saw coming.
Blood Remembered is a well-written tale of murder and deception set in small town Arkansas. Max Sawyer is a well developed character with a compelling back story. The other characters are interesting, and a bit familiar to someone who has grown up in a small Arkansas town.
Max has a life of wealth and far from his home town with bad memories, He is still there for his friends, even though time has passed, Amanda is accused of murder. She was an old girlfriend, as well as Tom now a lawyer in this town. Finding others in town still remember him, and help. It is a plot with twists, well flowing, and keeping ones interest.
Yes, yes I loved this book. Douglas Pratt is a great author.Best book I have read in awhile. This is book one I am already in the middle of book 2. This is a yes, yes Thumbs Up me.
Enjoyed it immensely. Ending was a real surprise. I never saw it coming. Loved it. Look forward to reading more of this series and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes a good challenge in figuring out whodunit.
Fast paced.Good story that kept you wondering who the killer really was. Never would have guessed it really was Mandy. Good author. Can't wait to read more from this author.
I didn't read the short little book that was before this one but it turned out fine because it was so much fun to read this one first! Love Max & Lisa! A good team!! I would read more Max Sawyer !!! Would never have guessed the ending!!!
An entertaining quick read. A bit of everything in this book, intrigue, humour, romance, murder even some action. Thanks for the entertainment Douglas Pratt.
Interesting and likable characters. Easy to read. Keeps your interest and surprises you in the end. They should make a tv series from Douglas Pratt’s books.
Max Sawyer returns home after 10 years to help an old flame, who is accused of murder. Max races against time to prove that someone else could have done it, and create reasonable doubt.
Douglas Pratt's Blood Remembered, is Book 1 in his A Max Sawyer Thriller series, that begins with the Sean Wyatt-like rich, intelligent, easy-going hero, Max, getting embroiled in murder and relative skulduggery.
Answering a call back to his childhood hometown, to the aid of a 'damsel in distress' he dated briefly in high school, only to get mixed messages from almost everyone familiar or not, (and fisticuffs too in some instances), makes it hard to know whom he can trust.
Was it a mistake to turn back the clock, by returning to the town he abandoned after his wealthy parents' brutal murder? Will Lisa Day put her career before their burgeoning love and claim any Investigatory triumph as all her own doing? Can the Sheriff uphold the law, when he deems Max's return and truth-seeking to be obstruction of justice?
Get your copy of guaranteed virus-free and satisfying Blood Remembered by Douglas Pratt, to find out just how Max untangles the truth from the web of secrets and lies he's unwittingly become tangled in once more... it's a 5-star winner in my book!
Blood Remembered (Max Sawyer Book 1) By: Douglas Pratt 5 out of 5 stars
The story Blood Remembered (Max Sawyer Book 1) by Douglas Pratt is s thrilling mystery book. Max Sawyer found his parents brutally murdered two weeks before graduation. He decided to leave Hellenston, Arkansas and never return. Then he got the call that his old high school girlfriend has been arrested for murder and needs help. Max answers the plea and there becomes embroiled in a case that has both intrigue and revenge. He comes to find out that the small town of Hellenston is more dangerous than he expected.
What a mystery! I loved the story. It has action and a hero that won’t let anything stop him from finding out the truth. Max seems to have it all in the way of money, however, he is always there for those who are lucky enough to be his friend. Even after being gone for so long, the town where he grew up and left behind still remembers his name. Max has a way of holding onto leads in a case like a dog with a bone, he just won’t let go. He has some connections in the community and quickly creates more that assist him with his investigation. This story has a very believable plot, wonderful characters, and keeps your attention from the first chapter to the ending page. I can’t wait to read more about the adventures of Max Sawyer. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
