Journey alongside Arctic in the first installment of Chosen Legends coming-of-age superhero fantasy series. If you’re a fan of the Renegades Series, Marie Lu’s Young Elites, and Mackenzi Lee, you’ll love this story about friendship, identity, and flawed heroes.
AJ Dasher is the author of Chosen Legends, a YA superhero urban fantasy series that she's been writing since she was ten. She always loved reading stories and watching movies about people with powers in dystopian worlds.
Thus, Chosen Legends was born.
Sometimes, you might find her writing poetry or doodling on her homework. Other times, you'll find her typing her nonsensical ideas.
But there's one thing for sure—AJ can never stop creating.
Other than writing, AJ loves art and music. She plays flute and piano and sometimes sings. She paints in her free time and sometimes sketches stick figures of her characters.
AJ also has six other WIPs (works in progress) including a few short stories she's excited to share with everyone! Although her goals may not seem realistic, she is determined to put them out there. ♡

OMG!!! This was fantastic book and it was a page turner and the suspense was a thriller. I was hooked right in and I was at the edge of my seat and I could not stop reading this book not even for a minute. This was a action packed science fiction adventure story it was about Arctic and he was a meta that has magical powers that who can read minds of people thoughts and memories as well. Others people was afraid of his powers and they really did not understand at all. So he was being hunted down like a animal so he had to run for life until meet another meta like him name River. These was a wild and crazy action packed of drama. I highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed at all. I received a copy and am voluntarily leaving a honest review. Trina Jones
Slivers of Memory is the Prequel to Chosen Legend by A J Dasher and Kris Ruhler. I thought that this fantasy was interesting. Arctic is 15 and he is a Metas, people with supernatural powers. He also is missing many memories. I believe that the authors did an outstanding job of laying the foundation for their new series. The characters are interesting and I felt that just enough of the story left me wanting more! I believe that this author team writes fantastic fantasy books. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Slivers of memory is a wild, fast paced science fiction orientated adventure story which correlates with the saying: "How far would you go to get your memories back and to learn your true identity?".
The characters were extremely well written and fleshed out, the settings were unique and intriguing and the story overall was of a very high calibre that had me hooked from the very first paragraph.
I would gladly read other works by this author duo in the future.
An enjoyable read. Well written, in-depth and engaging from start to finish. Metas with different powers start to disappear, why? The paths of Arctic and River cross unexpectedly, thrown together by destiny. What will become of them? Highly recommended. I really enjoyed this story. There are lots of teasers ... I’m looking forward to finding the answers in the next book. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.

The title aptly captures the essence of the narrative as we follow Arctic, a meta endowed with extraordinary abilities, on a gripping action-packed journey. Along the way, he begins to piece together fragments of his lost memories from when he was just seven years old. However, Arctic is not alone in bearing this distinctive mark; a mysterious girl joins him, and together they find themselves entangled in the sinister machinations of an enigmatic evil organization responsible for the disappearance of metas.
Caught in a web of uncertainty and paranoia, they grapple with the dilemma of trust. Yet, their inexplicable connection may prove to be their only hope for survival. As they navigate a world where metas remain hidden from human eyes, the story unfolds like a thrilling rollercoaster ride, replete with action, adventure, and unexpected plot twists. The looming question of whether their innate abilities will be enough when faced with adversity lingers, alongside the ominous threat of the suppression of their meta abilities. Will they enslave the metas?
Amidst the chaos, a prophecy looms ominously over them, hinting at the emergence of chosen Legends. The significance of the marks they bear remains shrouded in mystery, leaving readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the unraveling of the tale. This gripping narrative culminates in a tantalizing cliffhanger, leaving readers yearning for more, and prompting questions about the fate of these characters and the world they inhabit.
I was given this book complimentary from Book Sirens in e-book form in return for my honest review. Everything stated in this review is of my own opinion and I was not compensated monetarily for providing this review. More of a teaser for the series than a prequel and it worked - I want to see how the events and people showcased here develop. The writing is clever, the (main) people's characters are starting to develop to the stage we want to know more and the story is interesting enough to keep the pages turning. Bearing in mind the age and life experience of the author this is a hell of a start to what looks to be a long and promising career. One point I will make is maybe the focus should be on action and story for now and leave relationships until further down the road.
Wow what a read. I found the book fast paced and I was gripped from the minute I started reading. The book itself is very well written. I will definetly be diving into the rest of the series by these authors.

Super-powered Humans, or Metas, are going missing and it's down to fifteen year old Arctic, himself a Meta, to find out exactly what's happening.
The first part of a new series that sets the scene for what's to come by introducing the key concepts of the Meta humans and the shadowy organisation that hunts them.
An important message about our own distorted reality
IF: ‘Humans have always feared what they can’t control.’ AND ‘Humans will always want to control what they fear.’ THEN: Why not learn about what it is that they fear?
I appreciate that the authors address this when they set up this world and its mindset for readers early on: ‘Meta’s like [Arctic] had powers and never questioned why. Some humans were born in Meta families; some Meta’s were born in human families. […] despite trying to blend in society, as he did, would never fit in. So why did some have powers and others didn’t? It was…unfair. He sighed. With proper training, Meta’s posed no threat. Why couldn’t everyone live in peace and get along? Why build a device to take away abilities?’
This warped misconception totally reminds me of the NeuroTypical (NT) “war” against NeuroDivergent (ND). It seems that Arctic is missing some things that “normal” people have in plenty. In reality, things like his lack of self-awareness and his confusion by social norms & non-verbal communication allow him more freedom to be “in his head” in order to better use his personal skills.
IRL example: Curvilinear thinking, hyperfocusing, interest-based attention, and timeblindness are all useful tools for NDs; combined, they help us complete detailed tasks that challenge and often prevent NTs from even starting. Yes, there are benefits to being NT (many of us NDs need their linear thinking to write processes & procedures for us and to tell us when to take bio breaks). But I’ve yet to hear of an ND telling an NT to “catch up”, “follow along”, “listen better”, or “think faster”. We just don’t do that. We get that our brains were designed differently in order to function differently. There’s no shame in “thinking inside the box” just like there’s no shame in not even knowing what a box is. Just imagine what we could accomplish together if the box-thinkers let go of their misguided concepts that the free-thinkers are less than just because we were born with a diverse range of skills. Different does NOT equate threat.
Personally, I picked up on some of what characterizes Meta’s and NDs: Arctic’s using a sleeping mask could be a sign of stimulation overload. Frosting is how his Emotional Dysregulation manifests. He doesn’t feel cold, but his wearing warm clothing to blend in is a sign of masking. Another character can “feel” when there’s a change in the immediate environment – this could indicate an empath who has learned the hard way to always always check the pulse of his/her surroundings in order to defend against threats. This often leads to increased stress and anxiety due to what’s called “survival mode”.
It’s beyond time for both NTs and NDs to change the narrative: Stop calling valuable brain processes as “dysfunctional” or “disorders”. Stop apologizing for how your brain was designed.
On another positive note, the authors teach compassion for others using a different demographic: ‘How could you blame the homeless? One change, one single turn of events, could make someone homeless. Losing a job, getting evicted because your landlord wanted to redecorate the building or tear it down, the death of a loved one you couldn’t recover from…’ The world needs more Ethans.
Fave quote (by the librarian, of course!): ‘Knowledge knows no bounds.’
I already thoroughly enjoyed Kris’s ‘Aeterna Chronicles’, so I was super excited to start this new series. Can’t wait for ‘Rise of Legends’ - coming soon!
A prequel to the 'Chosen Legends' series, this book follows Arctic in his journey to save his friends and find answers about his past.
Action, drama, mystery. A good start for a series, left readers with a few questions, and I'm looking forward to finding the answers in the next books.
I loved it from start to finish, its the sort of book that gets you hooked right from the first page. It is really well written with really credible characters and great world building. The protagonist is Arctic who is a meta, which means he was born with powers. Arctic becomes aware that people might be hunting him, he takes advice to flee to a safer place and meets a another meta River who goes along with him. But the safer place might not be as safe as Arctic hopes for. Very highly recommended a must read!
I'm an adult but I really enjoy YA bc it's clean and fun usually. I also really like apocalyptic and end of the world themes and in adult versions it can get overwhelming. I enjoyed this book over all. It's engaging and has some suspense and it's also sweet and fast paced!
