Life for Riley ends when her young children die in her arms…victims of a global viral outbreak that claims the lives of everyone she’s ever known. Left to fend for herself with only a dog as her companion, she sets out on a journey to find others, leaving notes everywhere she goes…hoping that one day someone will come looking for her. When Riley meets the handsome yet mysterious Connor on the streets of Downtown San Diego, they form a bond unlike either has experienced before. When the things that go bump in the night turn out to be more than nightmares, the trio sets off for the mountains in search of an isolated resort where they can hunker down, away from the ominous shadows of the dead city streets. The peace and tranquility of the woods isn’t enough to keep the darkness away for long though and soon Riley and Connor are forced to accept that the World and the few people left alive in it will never be the same. The shadows of their past may haunt them forever…threatening to destroy what little dreams they have left of a future unless they fight to stay in the light and never lose their hope.
1/9 Family and Friends: The dog and I have left to find my Mom. Most of you know where her place is, the corner of 9th and F. I’ll leave a note there before I move on. Everyone here is…gone. I can’t stay. I’m not sure when or if I will come back here but leave a message anyway. I hope you find me. – Riley
This book has one lousy part, it ENDS:-( Can't wait for the next book. You know a book is good when it grabs you from the start and you have to check in everyday to find out what is happening. I am so glad I didn't pass this one by. I found myself picking it up to read at times when I normally don't read because I wanted to be back in the book. Hope the next part comes out soon, I will be first in line.
I Hope You Find Me is a post-apocalyptic scenario. I love apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic books, and this one did not disappoint. Riley, the heroine, finds herself the only survivor in her family after a fast-acting virus claims all their lives. She moves from place to place, and in her wake she leaves notes, all ending in the same phrase - ‘I hope you find me’.
I won’t tell you any more plot lines, because this is a story you should be reading by yourselves. It is full of emotion, so don’t forget the Kleenex, but must of all it is full of strength and the stubborn resilience necessary to survive.
The main characters are well developed, each with their individual voices, problems and personalities. Secondary characters are just that – barely important enough to deserve attention, and keeping the plot uncluttered. I do hope we’ll have the chance to learn more about one of two of them in the sequel, which should be out in 2013.
The storyline is simple and easy to follow, with most of the adversities caused by human nature, rather than the consequences of the scourge. The plot is solid, and it does leave an opening for a sequel. I know I’m starting to repeat myself, but I can’t wait to read it.
With a good pace and easy-read style, this novel is a very enjoyable read. There is something for everyone in it – a fit of fun, a bit of flirting, good description, deep emotions, some hate and a good deal of love, too. A very good effort for a debut novel. I would not hesitate to read more by the same author. I Hope You Find Me gets five shiny gold stars from me.
This post-apocalyptic novel is a wonderful mix of romance, thriller, paranormal, with a dash of horror. It was an enjoyable easy read, a definite page turner. I had a hard time putting it down. The story was original and well developed. The descriptive language was wonderful except at times when it became a little heavy and the abundance of words got in the way of the actual story. For example, there were moments of great suspense where I was on the edge of my seat and in my excitement, I was tempted to skim through to find out what happened next. I am impressed with the writing style and ability, with the exception of a few ambiguities and run on sentences, there were very few editing/proofing issues. The characters were well developed and believable although and would have liked more back story on the main characters (perhaps a prequel is in order LOL). A little more development of the villains, at least more than just an introduction would have been beneficial. I really enjoyed the story line and the variety of characters. The bottom line is that I genuinely enjoyed the novel and look forward to Book 2.
A virus sweeps the world and leaves behind only a few survivors. Riley is a survivor, holding each of her children as they die she is forced to deal with the unthinkable surviving without them. Her grief unbearable as the bodies take a day to burn she has to decide what is next. The next day she leaves a note that she is taking the dog with general directions and she signs off “I hope you find me.” Traveling into the city she sees the total devastation and realizes she may be alone until he finds her at the water. They have to decide to then stick together or separate but when there is no one else there is safety in numbers. This horrible virus leaves behind so many dead and they are haunting the living. Fearing for their lives they decide to travel to a place in the mountains and there they have to face an even bigger challenge dealing with survivors that really don’t care about the living or the dead. Riley’s choices affect the rest of her life, there is so much that happens in this story. Riley faces the raw emotions of loss, fear, defeat and the challenge of a choice to defend what is hers or loose it all again. How she deals with this choice defines who Riley has become, and her first note I hope you find me becomes a defining realization that she finds herself. Trish Marie Dawson did a masterful job writing this story and I can’t recommend it enough. Bella Doerres M.Ed.
“I Hope You Find Me” is set in San Diego, where a viral pandemic has decimated the world’s population in a flash, leaving Riley alone with her dog Zoey to search for friends and family who, like herself, have survived. What she finds leads her on a journey she never expected.
This story flows. Admittedly, not my genre of choice, but I was captured from the very beginning. There is just enough backstory to keep you going without being an information dump, yet it still leaves questions that you want answered. You simply have to know what happens next.
The storyline is fresh and inventive and the characters leap from the page. I was hooked the whole way through and became heartily upset when it ended. I still wanted to know more. Ms. Dawson in on my permanent author-to-read list. Put her on yours.
The Good: Excellent pacing, wonderful characterization, and an engaging and interesting story throughout.
The Bad: There were a few times when Riley’s affections seemed sort of all over the place, but in hindsight, I can see how the turmoil mirrored the chaos that was taking place around her. But in the moment, it was a little jarring. Nothing that stopped me from reading, though.
Overall: I highly recommend this book to anyone. It encompasses several genres, and there is truly something for everyone. Read it.
I loved this book! From the moment I started it, I did not want to put it down which is amazing because it is not the usual type of book I read. It was very well written I must say. This book brought out many emotions in me as I read about the different characters and their loss. There is so much grief and pain that at times you get lost in it and your heart literally hurts for the characters. You could feel Riley's pain when she would think about the loss of her two children and how it tormented her that she survived and they did not. She struggled with feelings of betraying their memory by moving on and starting her life over again. Then Connor comes along and he is struggling with the pain of not knowing if his loved ones are alive. The imagery was so vivid that it kept me up and night with pictures in my head that I couldn't erase after a day of reading. Every chance I got to read, I had my Kindle in hand, and when I wasn't reading I was counting down until I could pick it up again. I am sad now to be finished with the book, I miss the characters already! It isn't often i can read a book and feel so sad when it is over. I am really looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend this book!!
A very enjoyable read that was full of suspense, romance, and new beginnings.
I always find myself losing the hours when there is a good apocolyspe story and this one ranked up there...
So, I found this book awesome but...I went ahead and read the synopsis and reviews for the next books in the series and think it's best that I stay away from them since the feedback brings in love triangles and more that normally turns me off from reading a book. So, I'll just take the ending of Riley and Connor from book 1 and give it a happily ever after.
As a mega fan of The Walking Dead TV show, this book called out to me when I read the synopsis. Although this book does not have walkers, it does have that element of survival in a world that has collapsed. My personal opinion is that Dawson knows how to write. She knows how to set a character up to where you either love them or completely despise them and then she can make you switch those feelings in just a paragraph. Her plot is purely excellent and how she can set up suspenseful events was amazing. What a wonderful book! I loved the fact that Riley ventures into the city to see if anyone that she loves is left alive and while she stops at random sites, she leaves a letter to anyone who knows her. This is something that I would never be brave or smart enough to do. When Riley meets up with Connor, the whole dynamic of the book changes. What was once a solo character has now switched and the plot livens up more. As a reader, we now have the story of two survivors that are strangers, but are coping together. I won’t say much more because there are surprises around every corner in this book and I do not want to give them away, however this book kept me turning the pages past midnight. Such a enthralling story, wonderful characters, and unique idea for a book that I cannot wait for the sequel. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer MC~
A different kind of zombie tale is found in I hope you find me. A plague has overtaken humanity and this is the story of a few that were immune to the virus that killed the majority of the world. We find Riley as she sits amidst the smoke of what is left of her family. It is a very sad moment in her life and we get the honor of being there with her. When she finally leaves her home, she writes a note for anyone who may be looking for her. She has no clear plan but each place she stops at she writes a message of where she will be going to next. Soon after she leaves home she meets Connor, when he saves her and her dog from drowning. They both realize not long after that they are not alone. What they feel they brush off as ghosts but perhaps they are so much more.
The zombie genre is not something that would among my normal reading material but this was so different from what I expected. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I will say that I was riveted by the story that kept me awake reading until the sun came up this morning. The character development is wonderful and the cast of characters has it all from the frisky puppy to the pampered princess and of course the ever popular villain. It was a great book and I cannot wait until I get my hands on the sequel.
When a global pandemic ravages the planet leaving only a handful of survivors the odds look like they are stacked against Riley who has lost everyone she loves. The scenes where she recounts cremating the bodies of her children and grading class paper for her 3rd Grade students who will never see the marks they received are heartbreaking and moving. Reminiscent of Stephen King's The Stand and Under The Dome this is a book which keeps you turning the pages from start to finish. As Riley's travels with her dog Zoey lead her to meet Connor, a movie star who like her has lost everyone, they discover that the dead are far from resting in peace in a spine chilling encounter on the wreck strewn streets of San Diego. As Riley puts it in one of her notes: Be careful on the streets. The dead are watching. This is a book which offers something for everyone. From horror to love story to the battle between good and evil it is a book which you will find hard to put down.
I Hope You Find Me turned out to be really good. Its not the kind of book I would read but that doesn't take away from the quality of the book. Trish has a great talent for description, there wasn't one point in the book that I couldn't picture in my head. Plus, there are a lot of unanswered questions that give the need to come back and learn the outcome of those ends. Though some points seemed droll everything was a subtle set up for the action at the end. A clever chess play of not letting the other side see what is actually happening.
My only complaint, Trish has a talent for writing but it is a raw. There were some grammatical errors and un-needed sentences and descriptions in a few places of her story. A little refinement can go a long way. Then, again, no writer is ever truly completed in learning. (^_^)
Well done, Trish. I eager to see what happens next.
Absolutely loved it!!!! What a fantastic read. I'm a Walking Dead fan, but when I started reading Trish's post-apocalyptic setting, I was concerned it would be too dark for me. Boy was I wrong! There was just enough darkness to make you feel for these people, to secretly encourage them to keep going and not give up. But what you had more than anything were some great characters, great storyline, great plot that flowed flawlessly and wonderfully. The storyline moved so well, never a dull moment. Not only do you have a great hero & heroine, but you have your bad guys(some great intense moments), zombies(no other words needed), romance(a slow romance yet worked perfectly), friendship, hope, just a great ride. Did I say fantastic?!?! Read it, so worth it, can't wait for book two, great job Trish <3
I discovered this author on Twitter, and although post apocalyptic scenarios are not usually my thing, I decided to give this book a go, and I'm very glad I did! This fast paced thriller had me hooked from the start. I enjoyed the romance that blossomed between Riley and Connor, it was an interesting twist on the normal romance. Well written with interesting characters and an unpredictable ending, I look forward to reading the next instalment, and in the meantime will be acquiring some more material from this promising author.
The hell did I just read? Two weeks ago I thought Insurgent was the worst book I've read this year, but this one manages to top it and makes me miss Roth's rambles. The story is that most of life on Earth has been wiped out by a mysterious flu-like virus. Riley, the protagonist, somehow survives it, along with her annoying dog Zoey that does nothing all book except bark and shit and demand rubs. Which is fine just that she's mentioned every second paragraph, making you think that maybe she's the next Lassie; but no, just barks and shitting and rubs. Riley loses her children, ex-husband, mother and friends. In fact, the book opens with her watching over a fire that consumes the dead bodies of her children. She then stays in bed for a week after which she decides to go downtown to make sure her mom is really dead. Because of reasons. Her mom is, in fact dead, yet somehow this manages to surprise Riley. She then starts leaving notes around of where she is headed, justifying it by saying it's in case someone (?) might come looking for her, so they'll know where she's been and where she's headed. The only problem is that later, when other survivors find her notes and come looking for her, she's actually surprised, because why would you think anyone else except your most likely dead family possesses the ability to read. Also she doesn't like this set of survivors. Riley then meets Connor, an Irish movie star, who she starts getting lady boners for every two pages and dubs Daytime Connor or Early Morning Connor, based on complicated astronomical factors such as the time of day when she looks at him. Again, this is about a week after her children had died. Don't any of the people giving this 5 stars have a major problem with this? They decide to go to a self-sustainable cabin out of the city (without any clear plan of what they'll do once they get there), because why stay in a 5 star hotel, in the city, with a fully stocked pantry and electricity and running hot water? I'm sure there's something so much better out there. They find the cabin and they find its occupant, Finn, who gets the hots for Riley. One of the survivors they didn't like (Matt) makes an appearance there as well, along with one of Riley's old boyfriends so now she has 4 men salivating over her because that's what happens when you're the last woman on Earth. Except she's not, so all of that doesn't make any sense. Bla bla bla, long, boring story short, the 10 or so survivors all try to live together as a big happy, hippie 70s community until Matt goes completely bananas, torches down the main house and the greenhouse (and source of their food because yeah, why would you need that, everyone knows canned goods are so much better) and kidnaps Riley. Matt dies, Finn dies, Riley is terribly injured in a car accident but survives (damn) and that's the end of it. They all live together like a big dysfunctional post-apocalyptic family. The only thing that sparked my interest in this book were the ghost-zombies they keep seeing around, except that's not followed up in any way so why would you even add it as a plot element if you're not going to do anything with it? This book is the literary equivalent of Twilight, written for the lady boners for bored house-wives. Oh, and there's a sequel. Hahaha. Trish Marie Dawson, not even once.
This book was fun to read, even though there were many points in the plot that were not true to life. Yes, I realize the book was pure fiction about an apocalyptic world where very few people survived a killer virus, but some things that happened just did not ring true. I liked the Conner and Fin, two of the main characters, who were very interesting and likeable. The bad guy, Matt, was not well-enough developed as a character.
I liked this book initially but it started to digress near the end. The imagery for the ghosts was disturbingly creepy and extremely well done. Though, they seemed randomly thrown in and the characters didn't seem overly concerned with them considering they seemed to be somewhat aggressive. Furthermore, the romance between Connor and Riley at the beginning of the book was enjoyable. On the other hand, I have some major qualms with this book. Riley made some very poor decisions at the beginning of the book that could have easily killed her including walking around town with no way to defend herself, jumping into ice-cold water to bathe, and leaving notes to her next location. It was a bit bizarre how carefree all the characters seemed to be considering they are in an apocalyptic situation with ghosts that were somewhat aggressive. On top of that, every place they stayed at had electricity, was fully stocked with food, and was rather immaculate. Riley also needs to stop leading almost every male she stumbles upon. It really took a decent character to a mediocre one at best. Finally, If you want a highly romanticized drama of an Apocalypse situation with really no survival aspect where mostly everything works out in their favor then this is the book for you.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I am SQUEEEEEing (is that a word?? If not, it is now!) with joy over how much I L-O-V-E-D this read! I have read the The Station books by Trish but kept going back and forth over reading I HOPE YOU FIND ME. I would read the description, then read some of the reviews the think nah, I don't think I would enjoy this one at all. Then the other day, Trish posted on her Facebook that I HOPE YOU FIND ME was free for Amazon Prime members to borrow. So I though what the heck, it's free *shrugs shoulders* I'm out nothing. If I can't get into it I won't read it (which is soo not like me to NOT finish a book, even if I don't care for it). Now, I wish I would of bought it so I can go back and read it again sometime. I was captured into Riley's world from the first page. Everything was so vivid in my mind as it played out while I was reading. Connor...Yummy! Matt...Barf. He had me so grossed out from the time he came into the picture. Fin...oh, Fin. You brave, brave man.
I cannot, I mean CANNOT, wait to read book two, which I WILL be purchasing!
Trish Dawson is an amazing author. I fell in love with her writing with DYING TO FORGET (The Station #1) and became a hard core fan with I HOPE YOU FIND ME. And now...on to LOST AND FOUND. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!
“I Hope You Find Me” by Trish Marie Dawson is an awesome book with paranormal, suspense and thriller all in one. It is definitely different from any of the books I have ever read. This book makes you think of what happens in an apocalyptic disaster.
Riley is a beautiful woman, who was a mom and a wife, who just lost her children and her ex husband from a viral disease that spread rapidly through her hometown. She suspects that all of her family and friends are dead too. Riley and her dog, Zoey are on the only ones that survived and now they are on there own. Before she leaves, she writes a message saying that I Hope You Find Me, Riley, for any of her family members and friends that may have survived and will be looking for her.
Riley and Zoey’s journey has begun. She takes off in her neighbor’s jeep and goes into the city. This is when her survival instinct kicks in. She leaves the same message at each place that she goes to in the city, hoping that maybe some one will find them. Riley was at the pier with her dog, when a handsome man name Connor shows up and helps them out. He tells Riley his story of why he is there and what happened. Connor takes Riley and her dog to the hotel where he is staying at and gives them a place to stay for a while. From that day on, Riley, Connor and Zoey are together through this whole journey. She is happy and relieved that she is not the only person that survived. After a while of being in the city, they decide that they are going to leave and go some where else. One day, while they are getting supplies downtown, something paranormal happens to them. Whatever Connor saw had him really scared and he wasn’t able to get to Riley in time. He finally was able to get them out of there and back to their hotel. The next day they pack up and leave the city for good and drives to the mountains.
During their time together, Riley and Connor have an attraction for each other. It is complicated and they don’t know where it will lead but they are happy being around each other. I really love Riley and Connor together. They fit and make a great couple.
At the beginning of this story, there was a lot of sadness when Riley lost her children and everyone she knew and loved. She is an amazing woman because she had to be strong for herself, start her life over and go on with out the people that she loved. She had to learn how to survive on her own and to be able to continue the journey that she set up to do. While I was reading, I felt like I was there with them on their journey and feeling all the emotions that the characters were going through.
Trish Marie Dawson has done a fantastic job writing “I Hope You Find Me.” It is an excellent book and I really enjoyed reading it. I can’t wait to start reading “Lost & Found,” Book 2 of the Find Me Series.
Wow, this was not a book for me. I wanted to give it 2 stars but I just couldn’t. I skimmed a lot of the second half just to finish it and don’t feel like I missed much.
Riley survives the virus that wipes out the majority of the population. She starts out likeable but ends up being annoying by the end. It seems every man she crosses path with her is in love with her. She just happens to cross path with a gorgeous man and he happens to be in hotel with electricity. It seemed unrealistic and I thought eventually things would pick up once they actually left the hotel. It didn’t. They just happen to go to another place and that is sustainable and is mostly deserted. There are some paranormal/ zombie thing that I found distracting and didn’t really seem to fit in the story. There is also the villain in the story and it felt forced rather than adding to the plot.
It seemed more like a love sick teenage girl in high school trying to be nice and giving off the wrong signals than a post-apocalyptic story of survival.
Trish Marie Dawson I Hope You Find Me #1 Find Me Series
Wow, amazing, must read ~ they all sum up this book in a few words. Once I started I knew I wouldn’t be getting much rest until I finished reading because I just had to know where it was all leading.
The world as we know it is over and only a few people have survived. Riley has watched everyone around her die, and must get away from all the memories closing in on her. Going downtown, and leaving messages where she goes, she comes across Connor. Together they head out of the city, and hopefully towards some peace. Ghosts seem to be appearing everywhere, and they begin to doubt what is real.
Well written, the story jumps right off the page and leaves your imagination with little to do whilst following the story. There’s a few shocks in store, and at the end you’ll be left wanting more from this story.
I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This story is about a woman named Riley who has endured an apocalypse. With everyone dead Riley takes off and ends up meeting Connor. You follow them through an action packed story line of meeting new people and even a few crazies! I loved the story and the different characters, however I found a few things distracting (the amount of songs played in such detail, Riley trying to get with every man, and lastly the whole 'I didn't forget the safety' line from the movie Scream). Overall this is a fantastic story that has a unique look on a post apocalypse world. Can't wait to see what happens next! WaAR
Riley survives, she doesn't know how or why, but she survives the Red Death. The rest of the world has been wiped out by plague, her two children, her ex-husband. She and Zoey, her faithful dog, set out for the city when they run out of water, though Riley doesn't actually know what she plans to do. What she does know is that before the phones went out, she called everyone she knew and told them that if they made it to her house that she'd leave them a trail. She leaves notes everywhere she stops, telling the people who she hopes will find her where she plans to go next.
In the city, she meets Conner, who had been in town on business when the plague closed the airport and wiped out everything he loved, across the pond. He brings her back to the hotel that he's been living in, that has a generator and therefore the food hasn't gone bad and there's running water. She finds herself drawn to him and stays with him, until someone does follow Riley's notes to them at the hotel. The new couple of people leave the hotel in the night, and not on good terms with Conner and Riley.
Riley and Conner decide to move on after having an experience in the city with the dead that they cannot explain. They go into the mountains to a "green" resort, figuring that it would be more likely to be sustainable and still have power. (Considering the world has been dead a couple months, a lot of these places seem to still have hot water) There they meet up with various people, and what follows makes the bulk of the story.
The book was pretty enjoyable, on readability and flow it gets five stars. On the creepy dead ghosts, it gets five stars. On the journey it gets five stars. Where it loses stars is that Riley must have a goddamned golden vagina. At one point in the novel, the romance becomes a love pentagram, for Godssake. Every male who meets Riley, wants her. Fucking ridiculous, and the romance ended up taking up a bulk of the story, the dead things were creepy as fuck and I wanted to hear more about them, have more experiences with them, anything to do with them, really.
Conner and Riley were sort of an oddball matchup. I enjoyed it, even though she kissed everyone else, but what I realized is that they're something like if Frannie and Larry Underwood were the main characters in The Stand, instead of Frannie and Stu.
The Stand, this book was not... Entertaining, however, this book definitely was.
I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book considering I left my YA safe zone to venture into this book. I can honestly say that sometimes I was really freaked out in this book. I was 100% sure that zombies were going to make an appearance, until they didn't lol. I Hope You Find Me defiantly touched on an array of emotions for me such as sadness, anger, happiness and like I mentioned before fear. I found it to be an easy read because the content was amazing. I love Riley! She is so strong to have gone through all that she has and not wanted to give up completely. Sometimes I did find her a little slutty (kissing everyone and the dog haha) but ill get over it. She redeemed herself by making the right decision in the end. Connor is my favourite make character, I can just picture his sexy Irish accents when he talks. Plus, he is protective over Riley and you can tel he genuinely cares for her. But my new favourite character is Kris. She is so why and quiet and I really want to know her story. This is a great start to what I know will be an awesome series. I can't wait to find out what's in store for these characters. I would recommend this book to post- apocalyptic lovers.
I Hope You Find Me starts out sad. The world isn't what it used to be. A virus has taken over and wiped out most of the worlds population. Now, I know what you're thinking... Zombie apocalypse! That's certainly what was going through my mind. However, there are no zombies in I Hope You Find Me. I was pleasantly surprised by this paranormal romance story. It has all the great things we love about an apocalypse story but with twists that had me hooked.
I loved Riley, the main character. She carries a lot of pain but it doesn't define her. She has a past and questions to be answered. She struggles with new feelings after her whole life is ripped apart, and it lends a sense of reality to it.
I loved this book. I loved that it took my expectations and turned them on their head.
I've giving I Hope You Find Me by Trish Marie Dawson 5 out of 5 stars.
It was always interesting, well written, and amazing storytelling; far better than anticipated. Moves well, wonderful development in meaningful relationships and conflict. Balanced environmental issues vs sub-plots. Does not bog down in what others might and Dawson created a strong prime pair who focus is on survival and each other but not at cost of compassion or the good of the many. Interesting how well the dog adds to the movement and story. One of my top 10 favorites so far in 2013. I highly recommend.
I really wanted to like this book, but the main characters are so stupid that I just can't. A great idea for a story but full of people I hate. I was rooting for them to all kill each other and just let the amoebas take over the earth.
When I started this book, I was torn between ' is this a zombie book or not?' I didn't want to put it down cause I was already drawn into the story. And I'm glad I didn't. This story is well paced with well developed characters. Thoroughly enjoyable
