Deadly Memories

Deadly Memories - When Andrea is in a car accident after a posh Hollywood party and can't remember how it happened, a chain of events enfolds, leading to her marriage to an Ambassador's son in France. But what she can't remember might kill her."She doesn't remember a thing," Rolph snapped into the phone.Andrea froze. His back was turned away from her. He didn't know she was there, listening."It's been six months, for God's sake. If you harm one hair on her head, I’ll contact the authorities. My father would be disgraced, but that will not deter me."Now Andrea couldn't move. There was no doubt Rolph was talking about her. She wondered how his father, the French Ambassador, could be disgraced. His voice modulated to a threatening whisper. "This is the end. Otherwise she goes directly into protective custody, and I spill my guts. You've lied to me, made me into a damned traitor, and I'm angry enough to do it out of spite."Now Andrea knew there were secrets he was keeping from her. What did he mean about protective custody? Was she in danger? The one blank spot in her mind was a mysterious car crash six months ago. She didn't know how she had landed at the bottom of a cliff in the Santa Monica mountains of Los Angeles. She remembered the fabulous party in Beverly Hills that night, but try as she might, she couldn't remember the sequence of events leading to that accident.Rolph's last words chilled her, "I have nothing to lose. I'm a dead man."

Another intriguing psychological thriller, with a romance at the centre of this latest book by Pamela Richter.
Here are characters, Andrea, Jake & French Ambassador's son, Rolph. Andrea is a former college pupil of Jake's and has a secret crush for him, but she is recovering from a serious 'accident' and has serious memory loss of events prior to and leading up to the accident. Jake, a construction businessman and college lecturer is in denial over his feelings of attraction for Andrea, he feels protective towards her as well as his son from his first marriage, but can he take that first step towards a relationship that goes against his strict moral code. Rolph, is the eligible bachelor, handsome with that French accent that attracts society women like flies...but he has a secret life, maybe a sinister side? These three become entangled in a strange romance, passionate moments of lust, love, support and protection. Stirred into the mix are antagonists, Dr. Joe Morrow and his evil associates where blackmail, murder, stolen filovirus and the potential for biological warfare all come in to play. Pam Richter has also used her specialist knowledge of psychology to weave her exciting story, which includes the effects of memory loss, post traumatic stress with linked in responses of panic and anxiety in situations that are detailed and accurate. Then the climax of the story builds towards a tense, at times breath holding culmination where protagonists and antagonists clash...but who will survive, only the reader finds out! The settings for this story are the USA and France, Miss Richter's description of Paris and the Mediterranean is vividly accurate and for me reminiscent of my time there. The standard of English is good and the novel has been edited. This is a 4.5 -5 star quality story, and as such has my 5 star award.

This is a very entertaining, suspenseful, action-filled story populated with many colorful characters from a French Ambassador and his family to innocent people dragged into a deadly conspiracy carried out by murderous money hungry people.

Andrea's love and protection of her dear friends is heartening as she also tries to convince Jake, her former real estate teacher, that she is really in love and wants to marry him. Jake has been burned before and is not ready to take a second chance at a long term relationship. Enter Rolph, Andy's dashing French best friend to make Jake jealous.

You will find this book hard to put down as you just have to find out what happens next.

Interesting

This book had way to many grammatical errors. I struggled with getting through the book. I would believe it skipped the editorial part......

I loved this book! It was a complex thriller, an enchanting romance and a great story!

Romantic Suspense is most often 90% love story with marginal suspense. Deadly Memories is a multifaceted thriller with superb drama complete with terrorists, biological threats and impending disaster! Jake and Andy were made for each other but complications intervened to keep them from the Life together they both wanted. Andy survives torture, repeated attempts on her life and mind control techniques that block her memories of lfe threatening events!
I certainly was not expecting such an amazing story! This was one of the best Romantic Suspense books I've ever read!

I almost always avoid books with fabulously wealthy people in luxurious settings, but sometimes you just need a bit of escapism and some romance and mystery doesn’t hurt! Intrigue and international plotting keep the action going while the genuinely good hearted characters try to sort to keep their confidences and protect their friends.
The narrator does a lovely straight read, as is my usual preference (no sound effects, etc. let my imagination do the work!)
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance with a side of blackmail!

Deadly Memories, my first enjoyable read from author P.M. Richter. Well-written with intriguing characters. 11-hours 2-minute/314-pages. The book begins slowly, almost to the point I was wondering about it, but then it takes off, building to a crescendo, wait no spoilers here, buy the book, read & review the book. I was given an Audible copy of this book a year ago & am just getting around to listening to it. I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Carly Robins’s soft-spoken narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I though,y enjoyed this book. It was an action packed romantic mystery that held my interest until the very end. The characters were charismatic and seemed to pop off the page. The book flowed smoothly highlighted by a great mystery, danger, suspense and romance. I loved how the characters overcame the obstacles placed before them. I enjoyed the surprises, the twists and unexpected turns. The author wove a great story.

Yet another well-written book with adventures, interesting characters and setting, and people who are unable to tell the truth so screw up relationships and solving death threats. This particular story starts out pretty simply and gets more and more convoluted and complex as it progresses. A little hard to process the twists and turns, but very engaging.

Andrea ‘Andy’ McKnight, a small town girl who has made it big as a real estate broker in LA, left a party in a huff and was found in her car at the bottom of a cliff the next morning. After a long period of recuperation, she returns to LA to pick up the pieces of her life, but suffers memory loss about the events surrounding her near fatal accident – several hours of her time are not accounted for.
P.M. Richter’s Deadly Memories takes the reader on a thrilling and frightening journey with Andy as fragments of memory of that night come back to her, and threaten not just her life, but the lives of those she loves. A cast of intriguing characters caught up in a plot that has international implications. Richter does a superb job of ratcheting up the tension as Andy comes closer to discovering a deadly secret locked in her brain. As the tension mounts, we also follow Andy’s growing love for her former teacher, the wealthy construction magnate, Jake Montgomery and his son Jesse, which has to compete with her loyalty to her friend Rolph, son of a wealthy French family with political connections.
Love, violence, and betrayal mark this thrilling tale of espionage, murder, and terrorism, with enough action scenes to satisfy those who like it, and tenderly drawn scenes as Andy comes to terms with her feelings.
I received a free review copy of Deadly Memories in exchange for my unbiased review.

So this is the story of Andrea, who is in love with Jake but is marrying her gay best friend Rolph. You see, Rolph has AIDS and is dying and needs his inheritance to pay for drugs so that his influential French family doesn't find out. Jake wants only to be friends with Andy, but gets furious when he finds out she's marrying someone she clearly doesn't love as much as him (conceited much?). Andy is having nightmares about a car accident she had 6 months ago that nearly killed her, but she can't remember the events leading up to the accident. What she remembers threatens not only her life, but the lives of those she loves.

Deadly Memories was just about the most boring romantic suspense book I've read. And I barely got through the spelling/grammar/syntax errors sprinkled throughout (really, there is a difference between breathe and breath...just sayin). I can't see why this book has so many fabulous 5 star ratings, it was dull and long winded, with a conceited and pompous hero and a sugary sweet and wonderful heroine who can do no wrong. Their romance felt contrived and forced and the couple had zero chemistry. I'll admit there is a lot of potential if the book was trimmed down, since the action/suspense was decent at the end, but the long-winded nature of the first 2/3 of Deadly Memories just sucked any enjoyment out of this book for me.

The twists and machinations in this novel did not disappoint and neither did the characters who are well-rounded and likeable.

The only reservation I have with the plot, is that the heroine has recovered from a pretty serious car crash in six months with only a limp to show for it and no scars. Two years to eighteen months would have been more plausible.

Otherwise, well-written work and I will now check out more of this author's work :)

I almost stopped reading this halfway through....It was okay, just didn't thrill me. About 54% in though, the action increased and I flew through the rest in one night. Not a bad book, writing is nice and typos rare, if any.

Oh, my goodness. Must have been one of those free downloads. Ms. Richter is following in the footsteps of Barbara Cartland. In case you want to know, this is NOT a good thing.

Gripping mystery! I couldn't put it down. The heroine gradually learns more about her missing memory, and what really happened that night, but the more she learns the greater her danger!
