Myrtle Mae and her family have inherited a house on Roseberry Hill from her great aunt Gertrude, a house that is hiding an interesting secret. It’s a secret that opens a doorway from our world into a world that is waiting for her just through the mirror in the attic. It is here that Myrtle and her family's journey begins. She learns that she is the only female that has been born a Mae in a long line of Mae witches. Loved it! I got a preview copy and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read book two. If the last Harry Potter book left a hole in your heart, Myrtle will wiggle her way in. Great read.

Myrtle Mae and the Mirror in the Attic is a fun, action-packed ride from the first page to the last. Eight-year-old Myrtle Mae and her family have  moved into her deceased Great Aunt Gertrude's home. During an exploratory "mission", Myrtle and her brothers find a mirror in the attic.  That night Myrtle and her family are awakened by a strange cat, dubbed Mr. Screeches, who befriends her. The real fun begins when Goblins come through the mirror in the attic and kidnap her family. Now it's up to Myrtle and Mr. Screeches to save them. To add to her worries, Myrtle begins to find her place in an ancient prophesy in the line of powerful Mae Witches and a that Mr.Screeches can talk.

I give this book a solid 4 Flowers. I don't usually review books for younger readers but this was a good departure for me. I like the characters. I especially enjoyed Mr. Screeches who was in true cat fashion a bit snarky and sarcastic.  I have to mention that it was extremely well written, but the age groups are mentioned seem to be a bit too young. Myrtle is entirely too self-aware for very young children. I would recommend this book for tweens and young teens.

What a fantastic story you will simply love, Myrtle Mae and the Mirror in the attic is a fantastic book for all ages ! Young and old it is quite the journey you take as you read. I can close my eyes and remember just how scared Myrtle was the first night in the house as the unknown creature stirred about the house!
Joe Egly does an excellent of job of telling this story and connecting with your senses. I for one simply cannot wait for book two and hope there are many more. If you want a good book you can't put down and be able to share the magical journey with your kids be it you reading it to them, with them, or as a conversation with older kids this book is for you! A+++++

@ Ashley...I believe you haven't even read the book or your critique wouldn't have been so harsh not to mention rude. Criticism is exactly what it is, however, books are also sent to publishing company's and are picked over with a fine tooth comb for errors. I read it along with my 13 year old and also my 5 year old. We couldn't put the book down; I'm very picky about what I read. I sincerely hope one day to see a movie come out of this!

Myrtle Mae and the Mirror in the Attic captures the magic of childhood in such a way that anyone can understand, but connects with readers on a more intellectual level than most books of this type. Overall, I found it difficult to put down, and I plan to read it again as soon as my schedule allows. The character of Myrtle Mae in particular is wonderfully detailed, and I especially enjoyed the illustrations. Bravo. Five stars.

LOVED IT! As a mom of 4 my reading time is pretty limited. I am picky about what I read. This was a great choice because I could share it with ALL 4 of my kids...from 4 to 16 they loved hearing Myrtles adventure and cant wait to hear what else Myrtle can get herself into and out of. GREAT read for all ages..boy or girl!

I really enjoyed this one. I was lost in it's pages from the first word, lol. I hope it does really well, I want to read the next one.

A lot of run-on sentences and a ton of copy-cat material.

It wouldn't be a good book for young children because it's just a really poorly written book! Maybe it could be used in a classroom as an example of how not to construct a sentence. The teacher could have students read a chapter each week and look for all of the errors!
