For thousands of years a supernatural killer has slept in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. An amateur ghost hunter has just woken him up. Now that he stalks the night once more, he's traveling east. Although the monster's actions are pure evil, he may be the only thing that can save humanity from extinction.
This edition collects Books One, Two, and Three together in one volume. Book One: Stage of Possibilities Book Two: Stage of Hunger Book Three: Stage of the Hunt
Ike Hamill writes fast-paced horror novels with strong, relatable characters. His books have gained a steady following amongst readers who enjoy his blend of sci-fi, paranormal, occult, and suspense. Whether focused on a small family trying to survive the move to a haunted house, or following a band of angry rebels determined to withstand an apocalypse, his stories draw the reader into the lives of real people in crisis. Readers are always sad to leave the characters behind when the book is finished.
Reviewers compare Ike to Dean Koontz and Stephen King—two of his favorite authors. His narrative often jumps between interwoven stories, presenting readers with a fresh perspective and keeping them guessing until the last chapter. Most of Ike’s readers are repeat customers. Pick up one of his books to learn why.
Although the pace of the story seemed to lag in places it allowed for the clear development of the plot. After first questioning the format of the three perspectives during the first book it became clear as to how they would converge and was confirmed within the second book. I believe Ike Hamill has produced an interesting piece of work combining human nature, legend and science. I was left with questions as to how some things were resolved within the plot as well as the accuracy of the legend and the science. Overall I found it to be a good read.
Good thing this one was free. It was mildly entertaining but there were so many things in the plot that didn't add up that it was comical. The author is also in bad need of a proofreader. It seemed each book was sloppier than the previous. By the third, I felt like I was reading a first draft instead of a finished product. Don't waste your time on this trilogy.
Always enjoy discovering new authors, and Ike Hamill is no exception. Great story full of likeable characters, the mom was frustating at times but tolerable. Looking forward to starting the sequel.
I love this book, I could read it again. This book scared me to death, and I love horror books, but this one was so different. All the people I loved died and, at least a few I really liked lived on. This had the most unusual plot for a book, it surprised me all the way through, sometimes I even yelled out loud, I cried real tears and shook till I had to lay the book flat to read it, other times I had to just get up and leave it for a few minutes. The characters were amazing and were so developed along the way that you felt you really knew them. All I can say has I loved it. I started book 2 the same day I finished #1, and the same deal goes on, some new characters that you really like and some of the old ones I loved. The only thing wrong with it are typos and wrong words in wrong places but you can figure it out anyway, and there were only a few. I am just one of those type that notice all the little mistakes, but even the top sellers have them. If you can only ead one or two books this year make sure it's this one first, then the second, lol. Then, of course, I will read #3. I read 3 books a week, and sometimes 3 at a time, so I know good books when I read this and this is the scariest book I have read since I finished all of Richard Laymon's book.
Hamill absolutely hit it out of the park with this gilded trilogy. I was hooked write away with the strange story of Crooked Tree and his family, needing desperately to know more I met two more characters with separate story lines. All three stories converge in the end and the suspense, thrill and terror never cease. There were some genuinely scary and chilling scenes in this book. The characters were all well built and the story well written. I was literally on the edge my seat the entire book.
Well told story, a really frightening monster here! Loved the ending. Loved the whole book, in fact! Mr Hamill is very creative and smart and wrote a really, really interesting book. Very absorbing, I stayed up the entire night reading this one and it was getting light out when I was forced to put my Kindle down because I couldn't keep my eyes open any more. Was glad I did, though, because I got to read the final few pages with fresh eyes. Superb story!
This book was really unusual but I liked it. I was surprised by all the main characters getting killed off but it made the story more realistic. For people who like like folk lore and the paranormal this is a great read.
Great story. I like the way it starts with a story about the perils of kids staying up too late and then you find out the danger is real. A few typos but still good.
When I started reading this book I wasn't quite sure what to expect. As I got into the book I was just a little confused at first but everything started coming together very smoothly. This book has paranormal, mystery, and science all wrapped up into one package. I was really impressed with the way this author took me to a different place that I had never been before. The stories felt real as if they could really happen. This is one trilogy I will be recommending to everyone that wants something that is different from all the rest.
I think this book was one of the scariest that I have read of Ike Hamills, especially the haunted house where the ghost hunter dies early on. That part of the story really freaked me out. This was a great book. It was unlike any book I had read before. I liked being able to see things from the monster`s point of view and from point of view of different characters. I thought this story was well written and interesting.
While not the best book I've ever read, I very much enjoyed this tale of modern-day paranormal research crossed with Native American lore. For me it was a page-turner and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The end also contained a great twist that I never expected. The second half of the book did seem to contain many more grammatical errors than the first half, as if hastily written and/or not proofread.
I originally received this book from the author back in June of 2012. I just finished reading it and am hopeful Amazon will allow the late review. Ike Hamill's terrifying tale centers around a young boy who's horrific nightmares appear to be coming to life. The Hunting Tree is a mix of old folklore coming to life in modern day. A horrifyingly graphic tale which is well written and hard to put down!
Supernatural, chases, ancient genetic mutations and monsters meant to prevent mass human changes. There were definitely faults in many parts of the story, some parts dragged and some parts were fun and lively. Some characters were more well built then others. Over-all, worth reading, but not the best books I've ever read, either.
This began as a really effectively creepy paranormal story and ended up feeling like, " oh no! I'm going to miss my deadline!" I still gave three stars because until the last 5-10% of the book it was headed for at least four stars.
It started off very slow...and for sometime had no clue how the two stories tied together. But once I figured out the entire plot it got better and I couldn't put it down.
