CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
Whoo, this volume hits you right in the gut. CLAMP pulls out all of the stops here. Kobato and Iorogi's pasts are (almost) fully explained, Kobato realizes her feelings for Fujimoto and vice versa, and Kohaku's situation continues to be heartrendingly sad and hopeful. You feel for the characters and the roles they've been thrust into through Iorogi's selfish desires. Really, this volume begins to deliver on what the series has been promising until this point. It's a shame that it comes off as catch-up. The series throughout has felt like the plot has been dragging the characters towards the finale, constantly taking pit stops to gesture vaguely at a larger idea that isn't expanded upon until volume FIVE. I'm sure that upon a re-reading of the series I would appreciate the foreshadowing much more, and even give it some slack for the tone shift, but for now I'm still a bit miffed. On a little side note, I want to bring up Kohaku's side story, which really has no business being in this story other than the teeny fact that they're an angel (again, dead giveaway for spoilers). Having read most of "Wish" at this point, anything to do with Kohaku and Shuichiro is guaranteed to pull at my heartstrings. While I'm not sure it was necessary, I definitely did appreciate the story's inclusion as a fan. I'm still giving this volume four stars because we're getting payoff, because it is GOOD payoff. Iorogi's love affair with Kobato's other half is well-written and a clever mix of sweet and tragic. One of my favorite scenes of the entire series is in this volume, where Kobato has realized that she loves Fujimoto and is distraught at this fact, as she doesn't think he'll ever return her affections. The reader feels torn as well, since we know that if she does pursue a relationship with him, everyone (including Kobato) will suffer. CLAMP is amazing at writing tragedy, and Kobato's latter volumes are no exception.
Now the whole other world fantasy plot is front and center while the wishing is in the background. I like this drama way better but I wish it could have been incorporated earlier.
Kobato has a wish. To have her wish granted, she needs to heal wounded hearts - unfortunately, she doesn't know all that much about the world around her. With the help of Ioryogi - a soft toy dog - Kobato goes on a mission to better understand how the world and the people in it work and always hoping she might heal someone.
Firstly, Kobato is adorable. I absolutely love her design and all her outfits - I'd read this series just for that! But she's also got a very loveable personality. Granted, naive and ditzy characters can get on my nerves, but Kobato is written well; she's such a ray of sunshine and her cluelessness is explained by the plot.
In general, Kobato. is a sweet and fluffy series, there's really very little evil in it - even the villains aren't exactly bad guys. It was a little hard to get into at with how episodic it was; Kobato stumbled from one scenario into the next of trying to understand the world - by that I mean things like how to behave on Christmas or Valentine's Day. Once Kobato ends up as an assistant in a nursery, the plot gains substance and direction.
Although this series can be read by itself, I think those familiar with other CLAMP works can appreciate it more; there are many cameos of other CLAMP figures, in fact, a lot more than any other CLAMP work (Tsubasa not included as that one brings together almost all works). Some of the cameos are very brief but there's just something very satisfying seeing all these characters. Knowing these characters' stories definitely makes their part in Kobato. more meaningful.
The art, of course, is beautiful - I'm tempted to say this is actually one of my favourites among CLAMP's styles. That being said, it does use the long-limbed proportions which were quite prominent in Tsubasa. These unnaturally long limbs never sat quite right with me, so it's actually saying something that I would still consider this one of my favourite styles despite the odd proportions.
Kobato. is a light and endearing read. It's nothing mindblowing, but it doesn't need to be. I'd dearly recommend it to people who generally like CLAMP and their characters, but it can be a nice little read for newcomers as well.
and we get the full story of Iorogi and his angel - an angel who has the same face as Kobato. and . . . Iorogi's true form. I don't think I truly appreciated how much it sucks for him to be in his current form until now. I love how Kobato refers to Sayaka's estranged husband as "loan shark-san." makes me laugh every time.

I am sorry but this volume was unreal!! Honestly!!! What a reveal!!! I am reeling from it!! This is the volume that has truly found its stride. The pacing, the illustrations, the emotions!! All of it together just has made it the full package deal!! I am just thoroughly impressed by it and didn't imagine myself loving it as much as I Do!!!
I really like the way the story is going and it's heartbreaking the directions it takes with Ioryogi and his angel. I like seeing more from Kohaku from Wish. So many feelings~ Very typical Clamp type story line.
Things get intense as we finally learn the backstory that led Kobato to where she is now, and it is very interesting (if a bit confusing at first since, hey, it’s CLAMP). Only one more volume!
This one hurt in all the good ways. Things were finally revealed and now we're headed towards what can ultimately only a bittersweet conclusion. Ugh. Feelings.
Hate to be a hater but weakest in the series so far IMO. Too much lore, and not enough character depth. Maybe I don't care about any character besides Kobato.
Awww, look at how cute Kobato is, I just want to stick her in my pocket. CLAMP's great at bringing the adorable heroines, she reminds me of Sakura.
So this is the volume where we get some reveals on Kobato and Ioryogi's back story. For a universe where angels and demons are theoretically genderless an awful lot of angels present as female and demons as male. Still holding out for female presenting Ginsei-san! Come on CLAMP you can do it, grouchy emotionally illiterate girl rabbits are the best idea! Also I will pretend I believe you about the genderless thing then so deal? :D
Someone needs to have stern words with Ioryogi, you do not launch a war just because you want to be with someone. :l The only just war is one fought against injustice or oppression. Your love life is not adequate reason to invite devastation! It's sort of hard to be mad at him when he's a cute stuffed animal now but I maintain my moral stance. He needs to talk to that one demon guy from Wish, I don't remember his name but from what I recall he didn't start a war to be with that angel woman, they just ran off to Earth together. Good solution, an example to us all. 3 stars

Awalnya di dua buku pertama agak membosankan. Belum lagi salah satu tokoh yang menurutku terlalu 'lebay', tapi setelah memasuki buku ketiganya, akhirnya plot mulai terbaca, meski misteri siapa itu Kobato masih belum terbuka. Menjelang akhir, bukunya seru lho. Terutama buku kelima dan dipuncaknya, buku keenamnya. Seru!
Bikin bacanya jadi nostalgia sendiri. Worth to read! ;)
STARS RATING: 4.5 Ah rahasia sudah mulai terbongkar. Well, Kobato have two options now, said Iorogi; first, she can with the one she loves but Iorogi and friends wouldn't back normal (as their true identity) or she can 'help' Iorogi with completed the broken heart and fulfill the (cute) bottle and save Iorogi and other but she cannot be together with someone she love. Ah, I'm really dying want to know what will she choose?
