Waking up to discover you're dead isn't a gal's idea of fun.
Deb Stein loved to party until she took the hunk dressed as a vampire to her bed. Now she's one of the living dead and pissed about it. Plus, she has to find a new identity and WORK!

This was a really good book. I had started to read the 2nd one Dead Faint, for a book tour, but felt a little lost, and ended up waiting til this one came out free at Amazon, as I was not supplied this one for the tour. I am glad I did read it, its really good. I will be honest, if it was not for the book tour, I never would have picked up these books to read. I may have grabbed this one, while free, just to try it. But the covers all turn me off. To me they are plain and nothing eye catching about them. I am one of those people unfortunately that does judge books by the covers, as there is too many books I want to read, and only approach books that catch my eye by the cover. I'm bad, I know. Can't help it, I am a visual type person.
Ok, for the book, the writing was top notch, lots of promise for this writer, and some good unique ideas too, and even though it's a Vampire book, its done in a way that is new to me. I loved Deb/Dovey and Aaron too. Daniel was a little stuffy to me, but he grew on me a little, as did Rat.
I do not want to say too much, so not to spoil anything. This book is short, and just about anything I say, will spoil it. Pretty much what can be said, is said in the blurb. The book is full of sarcasm, snark and laugh out loud comedy, which I did not expect. I really liked Deb/Dovey, and I didn't think I would, as she seemed to be a spoiled rich girl, and never worked in her life. Of course that changes when she wakes up "undead" in her coffin, dressed in a shroud (which is basically a sheet wrapped around her) and barefoot, which I think upsets her more than the fact she was in a coffin. (and to her dismay, not a comfy satin lined one either, plain pine box) She can't believe her family would not bury her in one of her designer outfits and shoes. (being Jewish has its downfalls for burials she figures) So, Deb/Dovey has to fend for herself without her trustfund. She has to actually work, and has only one skill, she can dance, and is a very pretty blonde. So you can guess the type of job she has to get. She handles it all pretty well, and I started to really like her.
We also have other supernaturals in this book too, some werewolves, and mention of witches etc.
Go pick up this book, its worth reading, and watch for my review for the 2nd book Dead Faint, coming soon, book tour stop at my blog is 10/14 come by, check it out, enter the giveaway. Click banner at bottom for my blog.
5 out of 5 stars for this one, only negative is the cover, otherwise, great read, short too, and fun. Other books in the series. (Dead Hot too, but not at Good Reads yet)
Lizzie T. Leaf is a fab author who knows how to make her reader laugh so hard that they almost end up peeing! (Not me, of course, *cough-cough* ;) This amazing series kicks off with the story of the beautiful Deb Stein & her "very frustrating & completely unexpected" death & re-birth from a spoiled over-sexed, loaded socialite into a dirt poor vampire, thanks to the mesmerizing, sexy vampire, Aaron Lowell. Now, some of us wouldn't cope well well with suddenly finding ourselves without our Dolce & Gabbana clothes or even worse, *gasps*, our Manalo Blahniks or Jimmy Choos, and Deb is no different. Her first thought as she wakes up as a vamp is to get out of the coffin & find her Jimmy Choos! But, life...err..death, has other plans for Deb and she finds out that she can't go home again, as the "Deb Stein" everyone once knew, is now dead! So, what is a brilliant, beautiful & versatile modern young vampire to do, with no money, no clothes, no roof over her head & no way to get future income? Why, she becomes a female exotic dancer & takes on the wonderfully wacky moniker of Dovey Divine, as she works her way into being a former human, re-awakened as a female vamp & plots her revenge against the sexy vamp, Aaron, who was responsible for her undesirable change!! As "Dovey", the former Deb Stein now has to learn how to deal with the fact that even though she is supposed to be kosher, due to her Jewish upbringing, she now has no choice, as blood is a required daily source of nutrition! On top of all her excitement, we find out that Dovey has some previously hidden dancing skills & she rocks the exotic dancing scene! But can all this good luck remain with Dovey, or does a chance encounter with a member of her former life end up causing more trouble than she can handle? And can she ever forgive Aaron for her unintended change? Pick up this riotously hysterical book from the funny, brilliant & beautiful Lizzie T. Leaf!! This lady is one talented writer who has some major skills and Dead Awake is a short story that you will love and laugh with, from beginning to end! ~Vicki Rose Bitten By Love Reviews
Warning : This book does contain adult language and situations.
If you like a little naughty vampire fun then this is the book series for you. This book is short enough that it doesn't take forever to read but that doesn't mean that it isn't full of fun vampire awesomeness.
Deb is a woman who loves to party and loves being in the spot light. However, after her boyfriend dumps her for her best friend and then parades around like it doesn't matter at Debs Halloween party the last thing Deb wants is to be plastered in the tabloids killing someone. In comes Aaron the hunky vampire to her rescue. One thing leads to another and Deb is accidently turned into a vampire.
This book was pretty darn good. It was a sexy tease from beginning to end. I thought Deb would turn out to be a horrible person because of the way she acted in the beginning but I am glad that I was wrong. This book surprised me in great ways and just when I thought I had something figured out the author would change things up and it wouldn't turn out the way you think it would. It would actually turn out so much better.
The characters were great but I can't help but want to know more about the characters and how they came to be. You don't get that in the short novels but it doesn't take away from the book itself which is a relief.
I loved this book. It's full of drama, sarcasm, and laugh out loud comedy. It's a fast, fun read that will leave you wanting more! If you love paranormal, but want a change of pace this is the perfect series for you!
Aaron Lowell, a year old Vampire, has found himself at a party on Halloween night looking for his next easy meal ticket. While scanning the party goers his eyes fall upon a beautiful blonde bombshell. He observed the the heated argument she was in with what appeared to be an ex and his new play thing. Aaron decides to swoop in and save the day, hoping to get lucky...
Little did he know that his one good deed would change his existence forever, because the beautiful blonde turned out to be A - List socialite, Deb Stein - and in their moment of passion someone bit just a little too hard!
From A-List paparazzi magnet to a homeless baby vampire trying to stay kosher while searching for a new identity and an actual job... What more do you need to create a great story?
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
I never know what to expect when I start reading a vampire novel. I've always loved vampire stories, especially after watching all the Hammer Dracula movies when I was younger. I like vampires to be creepy and dark. Not angst ridden and DEFINITELY NOT sparkly!
This book isn't creepy. But nor is it angst ridden. Dead Awake is a fast read. It's sexy. It's snarky. To be honest if a vampire story isn't scary then I'd prefer it to read like this.
Deb Stein is a socialite. She likes to think she'd put Paris hilton to shame when it comes to partying and grabbing attention. After a one night stand with a vampire (she didn't know what he was at the time), she wakes up in a coffin. Deb has to learn how to adjust to her new life. And fast. After all, a dead socialite won't have access to her trust funds. And how is she going to maintain her passion for shoes with no money? Well, you'll just have to read this book to find out, won't you? But if you like your stories funny and sexy, you'll love this!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, ya gotta love a book that gives you a good giggle as you read, this was a refreshing change to the normal vampire/shifter etc type books.
I loved the snarkiness of Deb/Dovey. The supporting characters were great as well. I want to know more about them, so hopefully as this is the 1st in a series they will have their own books.
This was a quick read, so there were bits that you wanted to read a bit more about, so I do wish it was a lot longer. But hey, it's a short, fun read, so I shouldn't really grumble.
I can't wait to check out other books by this author.
A humorous approach of the undead world. After reading the book you begin to flirt with the idea..”hey, it's not so bad being a living dead”! In fact, given that Deb was an obnoxious, ill mannered, bad mouthed, rich girl, the accident that turned her to a vampire, also transformed her to kind and caring sentimental person.
Fun, fast read. Quirky characters put in fun and stressful situations and the hilarity commences. This is a re-release with a new cover and a new publisher but the same fun story.
