Jayla Protegenu learned as a child to call her protectors to keep at bay the things that prowled the night. Now, as a woman grown, she never expected one of those protectors would be a Fallen angel - Larien. His job: to help Jayla find the mythical and mystical Seal of Solomon.
Even among those who created the very meaning of good and evil, nothing is black and white. Neither friends nor enemies are what they appear
This is a fabulous book. I am not sure I can find the words to do it justice. Right off the bat this book has a wonderful mythology and the author really took her time and learned the facts and made sure things were accurate. That much is clear. That aside, there is the simple WOW factor. Angels fighting demons to save all of humanity.
In this book, angels and all manner of paranormal creatures live side by side with humans. Some are very aware of this fact while others are blissfully ignorant. Ms. Michaels did a wonderful job of creating a rich and detailed world that took my breath away. I have to admit, I did not fly through this book like I may normally do. This book is such a feast for the senses that I found myself reading slowly and taking my time to enjoy it. The exotic locations were wonderfully detailed.
And the characters! The heroine is a strong-willed woman who does not falter when incredible odds are thrown at her. She is not looking to be “rescued”. She wants to kick ass and take names. Then there is the bad ass alpha hero. He is a fallen angel so he also has that bad boy vibe. There are numerous secondary characters and they all add to the story. Of course this book is only the first in the series so I look forward to seeing these characters in the future books.
The relationship between Jayla and Larien is fraught with forbidden desire and a love to conquer all. The buildup was perfect. The chemistry between the characters was exquisitely detailed by Ms. Michaels.
Ok, I am running out of adjectives to describe how totally awesome and wondrous this book is, so just read it for yourself. Right now. Put it on your, “have to read it now!” list. I swear you will not be disappointed.

OK- I finally have time to update this review. I am a very harsh critic of mythology- it is what one of my degrees is in. So let me put that out there before I go on to say that this author REALLY captivated me with her take on Angels, the known mythology surrounding them and moving it into a whole new level for me!
This book lacked ... NOTHING! The characters are complex and wonderful. The story finds you falling down into a rabbit hole much Alice did to have her adventures in Wonderland and you forget where you are or what you were supposed to be doing. Time flew! I did not want to leave the world that was built within these pages.
TJ Michaels gives you a story here that makes you wish this was a back list book that you could read the final page and immediately pick up the next book in the series.
Suffice it to say I entertained, I was moved and I was entranced.
I cannot wait for the next one!

Enjoyed the world that TJ has created. Love Jayla & Larien.

Silk Road is a mix of mythology, fallen angels, demons and magic. We find a little bit of just about everything going on in this story. But TJ does a great job of blending them all together. While keeping us on our toes and I really enjoyed the main characters Larien & Jayla.
Larien, the dark brooding fallen angel who has sworn off love, humans and will just about everyone. He has been tasked to help a human find an ancient artifact and when that is done he is done. Only this human and the artifact stand in his way. But little does this fallen angel know what awaits him on the other side of that door.
Jayla has always known she is special. She just never knew just how special she was until she wakes up to an extremely hot man in her bedroom in the middle of the night and talking about secret missions. And oh boy does this mission turn Jayla's life upside down.
Really enjoyed this book. Great beginning to a wonderful series. I am looking forward to the next installment in the Seals of Destiny series.

Kitty and Slick's Two-fer review posted on Guilty Pleasures
Kitty's Review - 4 Stars
T.J. Michaels totally opened my eyes to a whole new world of Fallen Angels. Strong, sexy, loving, mean and just plain irritating. Silk Roads was written with many facets to it. Ms. Michaels brings us Larien and Jayla in the first installment of “The Seals of Destiny” series and I so look forward to see where everything is going.
This is Larien and Jayla’s story but there were so many other characters introduced in this first book that she had me wondering how she was going to really keep the story moving with so many Angels written into the story line. But, keep it moving, she did. She had me guessing with every turn of the page. I was a bit confused at the beginning of the book, but then everything started falling into place as the story wove itself around all the characters. We learn of how and why the Angels fell from Heaven. Why some of the “Fallen” were ruled by Lucifer and why others were still in partially good-graces with the powers that be. Larien is a “Fallen” that fell in the second falling – banished because of his love of sex. Yes, sex. And, when he finally gives into his attraction to Jayla, we find out why … an insatiable fallen angel! He is sent to earth to find the Seal of Solomon which has something to do with Jayla, a strong, free-willed, open woman, who throws him totally off of his game. The former Angel of War is totally taken in by the beautiful Jayla who, we find out, is a direct descendant of Solomon and has powers that she doesn’t even know about. Jayla gives as good as she gets. She doesn’t back down, makes fun of the powerful Larien and any other angel that she can, and loves with her whole heart.
We are also introduced to Gabriel, Chel, Talan, Isthus, Ambriel, Azrael, Abaddon and a slew of other angels, demons, daemons, eudaemons that all played an important part in this story. I became more and more drawn into the story as it progressed – interested in seeing how she was going to bring this to an end and how and if she was going to give Jayla and Larien a life together. Larien’s history and Jayla’s flashbacks to times with her father and grandmother played a very important part in this book. I don’t normally enjoy all the “background” on characters but they definitely brought everything together for me and made the story complete.
Now, this isn’t an easy, put your feet up and read kind of book. You have to pay attention, you have to focus on what is going on in the book and, if you do, you will be totally blown away with how this story plays out. Fallen Angels with big, beautiful wings have just become a new Guilty Pleasure for me.

I feel I must be upfront and honest before I start this review, before this book I’ve never (ever) read a book of this genre before. I’ve read a few about vampire/aliens but never have I read one dealing with angels (fallen and not), demons, leprechauns, and other mythical (or not) creatures. I’ll be the first to admit that these sorts of books, television shows, and movies just aren’t my thing. I mean I don’t even do “Superheroes”! However, DiDi asked me to read and review this one for a 2-fer and since I’ve been trying to branch out into other genres, I thought this was a good place to start because I know that Kitty Angel is a big fan of this genre and thus, we’d give reviews from differing perspectives. I’ll admit it took me a little while to find my footing in this book BUT it wasn’t the book, it was me. There is a lot that was foreign to me and so I really had to let go and open my mind (not an easy thing). I came away from this experience with great respect for the author, her characters, and readers who enjoy this genre regularly because I have to tell you my brain was very tired upon finishing this book!
Silk Road by T.J. Michaels is the story of a fallen angel who has been tasked with helping a human woman find the Seal of Solomon. From the first chapter I was absolutely enamored with both Larien (God, I love that name) and Jayla. Larien is our hero and fallen angel; he’s complicated, brooding, and so damn sexy. Jayla is a special human; she can call angels for protection, she can read auras, and she (unlike me) has no problems opening her mind to all things seen and unseen. Jayla is also one smart mouthed, kick ass, sassy woman and I so admire her for all of those traits. I will admit (and again I think it’s because I am new to this genre) I had a really hard time keeping up with all the different types of characters in this book. At times I found myself confused and I’d have to go back and re-read previous sections. There were a lot of characters in this book and I found some to be annoying, some endearing, and others I wanted to kick to the curb. But, it all comes back to Larien and Jayla and honestly you can’t ask for a more perfect couple. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two come to terms with their changing relationship and discovering that despite their circumstances, they are so totally right for each other. I did feel at times, that their story was on the back burner which was sad because it was the part of the book I enjoyed the most.
The adventure to find the Seal of Solomon was truly the main focus in this book. Their search led to many different kinds of encounters some of which were scary and somewhat bloody. Along the way we get to know many of the characters and they do bring different angles and viewpoints all of which I found intriguing. I also very much enjoyed the often witty banter throughout this book. The scenes between Larien and his cousin, Ambriel had me laughing out loud at times. I also liked the “buddy” relationship that grew between Jayla’s friend, Talan and Larien. Jayla’s other friend Chel, added some interesting and often spot on commentary.
I found T.J. Michaels to be a gifted writer and able to transport the reader into all sorts of interesting scenes. The characters were captivating and the dialog amusing and interesting. I’ll admit I was a little disappointed there wasn’t more time devoted to the developing relationship between Larien and Jayla. What was there was remarkable and I would have loved to see more of them together. I was overwhelmed with the sheer amount and types of characters in this book, but I think that’s because I’m a novice reader of this genre. I have no doubts that someone who reads this genre will very much enjoy the effort the author went to in creating such a varied and appealing cast. Overall I found this book to be entertaining and well written and I have no doubts that those who love this genre will enjoy it immensely because even I fell hard for the main characters, had no problem imagining myself in another time, and immediately wondered if there would be a sequel.

Silk Road by T.J. Michaels was an extremely original take on angels, demons, and everything in between. It is the first installment of the Seals of Destiny series. I must say that historically I do not prefer angels..what can I say? I am a very bad girl! After this book…maybe I will rethink this preference. T.J. Michales defined her characters with such clarity I could easily picture them in my mind and it was a lovely sight!
“Larien stood not five feet from her. And he was just as darkly beautiful in broad daylight as he’d been when he’d waltzed into her bedroom at eleven-fifteen at night a week or so ago.
The faintest bit of pitch black hair was a fuzz over his scalp. Perfectly formed black brows over pretty brown eyes that managed to look intelligent and annoyed all at once, and his sun-kissed skin made her think of warriors and pirates. Like a bad boy wrapped in good guy skin or vice versa.”
Silk Road caught my attention and kept me on my toes through every chapter. There were a few times in the beginning when I thought “I know what is happening … I see where this is going” and…well I was wrong. This was not an accurate assumption. I think I assumed in the beginning that everything was transparent and expected, just because the story seemed so natural. Silk Road twisted and turned flawlessly. The characters were nothing short of fantastic. Broody slightly damaged angel that is snarky as hell…HELL YEAH! Larien was a truly enjoyable and the chemistry between him and Jayla was sizzilin’ hot. Jayla was a terrific female character. Strong, smart, and willful yet feminine and kind. I enjoyed her internal dialog and it was easy to empathize with her emotions. (example)
“Her senses screamed “non-human” loud and clear, like one of those horns people blew at football games. This wasn’t a man. This was a…actually she didn’t know what it was, but the mix of lust and menace that rolled off of it slithered up her body and punched her gut from the inside out. Flesh felt stretched too tight. Perhaps if he touched her in the proper spot, she’d simply zip her skin off and leave it behind, freeing her spirit to float about the room in a gloriously horny haze. Her hair was on fire, blood boiled beneath the scalp. Her mind tore off into two directions. It screamed “Run”, or was that “Stay”…actually she couldn’t remember now.”
Secondary characters were defiantly worth a mention and I liked the fact that not every detail about them was dished out. Chel, Talon and Isthus are great characters and I cannot wait to find out more about them! Silk Road is a truly terrific beginning to this new series.

Silk Road caught my attention from the very beginning. Hello Sexy fallen Angel who's a badass yes please!!!! T.J Michaels did an amazing job creating a world full with Demons, Angels and everything in between. I love her view on the whole Fallen Angels mythology. While reading this book I thought I knew what was going to happen, but then she flipped it on me and left me with my mouth hanging opening. We learn that Lucifer and his band of merry Angels weren't the only ones to fall. There was a second fallen, but these Angels fell not because they thought themselves better than man, no they fell because they couldn't resist woman!
We meet Larien a fallen who has been given the assignment to help Jayla the descendant of King Solomon find the mythical and mystical Seal. I love the chemistry between these two. From the very beginning they were hooked to one another. I Love Love Love Jayla, she was a strong and smart female who could take care of herself. I love her internal dialogue with herself as well. At times I found myself laughing at loud at some of the things that came out of her mouth.
"What’s wrong, Jayla, don’t want your best friend to know you’re ogling Larien’s butt?"
I also have to say the secondary characters were awesome as well, and I can't wait to learn more about them in the upcoming books. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read with a strong female heroine and a kickass sexy Angel by her side. T.J Michaels has pulled me into her world of the good, the bad and the ugly and I can't wait to continue this series!!

Silk Road caught my attention from the very beginning. Hello Sexy fallen Angel who's a badass yes please!!!! T.J Michaels did an amazing job creating a world full with Demons, Angels and everything in between. I love her view on the whole Fallen Angels mythology. While reading this book I thought I knew what was going to happen, but then she flipped it on me and left me with my mouth hanging opening. We learn that Lucifer and his band of merry Angels weren't the only ones to fall. There was a second fallen, but these Angels fell not because they thought themselves better than man, no they fell because they couldn't resist woman!

I think I was destined to love Silk Road from the very start because it was about my favorite theme- angels. And, these weren't just any angels. They were good, bad and everything in between. I was riveted from the very first page and I stayed that way until I finished the book many hours later. Silk Road was an excellent start to a promising new series and I can't wait to meet the next "seal of destiny".

I met this amazing author at AAD Summer Camp. & just by talking to her, I had to read this book. The characters are awesome. And the storyline is incredible. It's about fallen angels and the description she gave about the angels falling, I felt like I was there.

Larien is a fallen angel assigned the task to help a human find an ancient relic that only her power can call upon. Larien’s goal is to quickly complete the duty at hand so he can get away from humans and more importantly live in peace away from everyone. That is until he comes face-to-face with the beautiful and alluring Jayla Protegenu. Now, his vow to avoid love at all cost has flown out the window because of his desiring need to claim Jayla, a human nonetheless, as his mate.
Jayla Protegenu has always known that she is special because she can beckon her guardian angels to protect her from the things that go bump in the night and most importantly she can read auras. But, it is not until an extremely hot male appears in her bedroom one night, seeking her assistance on a mission to find a lost mystical artifact that Jayla truly learns the power of her abilities.
Silk Road is a fantastic read filled with Angels and Humans and good versus evil. Readers, I must warn you that Silk Road is not a book to be taken light as a skimmed through type of read, you must pay close attention to the happenings or you will totally miss on how the plot plays out. Larien is a complicated, ominous, forceful character that has met his match in Jayla. She is a sassy, strong-willed, confrontational, kick ass heroine who will stand and fight to the end. There is never a dull moment to be found. The attraction between Jayla and Larien is instant and fervent. I so love the passionate chemistry showcased between the couple and I became more drawn into the plot as it progressed. It was intriguing to see just how the storyline would unfold – if Jayla and Larien would be successful in completing their mission and if they would have a life together after all is said and done. Overall, I took great pleasure in reading Silk Road.

I loved this book. T.J Micheals always has edgy strong woman with men who complement them perfectly and this book was no disappointment.
Larien and Jayla are wonderful together and have the perfect amount of push and pull...add in biblical adventure with a touch of paranormal, urban, historical, and a thought provoking storyline and you have Silk Road.
I seriously hope that Ms. Micheals continues Larien and Jayla's quest for more Seals because in my heart of hearts I hope the story doesn't end with this book. As the secondary characters are not after thoughts and make the story that much interesting.
Have read multiple times and it doesn't get old.

This was about angels and demons and everything in between. That kind of freaked me out. But the story was pretty good. The love scenes were pretty steamy. But it was hard to follow at times.
