Author of over a dozen novels, novellas, and short stories, Vanessa North delights in giving happy-ever-afters to characters who don’t think they deserve them. Relentless curiosity led her to take up knitting and run a few marathons “just to see if she could.” She started writing for the same reason. Her very patient husband pretends not to notice when her hobbies take over the house. Living and writing in Northwest Georgia, she finds her attempts to keep a quiet home are frequently thwarted by twin boy-children and a very, very large dog.
I bought this novella thinking the cover was gorgeous and the story sounded intriguing--I like a romance that takes a slightly different twist. Fertility clinic? Doctor-patient? Hmmm. Well, I loaded the book onto the Kindle on my iPhone and climbed in bed thinking I'd start reading and see if the text was too small, etc etc.
I could NOT put Two in Winter down. From the very first scene, Vanessa North creates these interesting, likeable characters. The story does not sound like every other romantic story--it's got all the necessary parts to be satisfying, yet has unique characters, and unpredictable emotional depth-which was a fantastic surprise. I LOVED it. This book really defines the romantic-erotic genre. The intimate scenes are really hot but not "too graphic", and are just beautifully written. The characters are interesting, the story unpredictable...in a good way. I didn't know how it was going to end and was really enjoying watching the characters play out their stories. Every page felt "right", from the characters' unconventional names to their situation--a great read.
I loved this book, from the writer's narrative style to the characters' and their conflicts. And the end? I won't spoil it for you, this one is a must-read. I recommend it highly and will put this author in my favorites list.
