I respect Kathryn’s ideas expressed in her review and I understand where she is coming from, as she does offer an honest point of view, but I'm afraid I have to disagree here...

I like to consider myself an intelligent, strong-willed young woman and I don't feel otherwise after reading this book. I feel that it was rather insulting and to suggest that anyone who doesn't agree with Kathryn's rather inclinations, is to be deemed lower intellectually!

I didn't feel for one second that the author intended to patronise the intelligence of the reader, nor did he once promise or imply that the opinions expressed in his book are solely his own creation, or that everything expressed is totally new and never before been expressed in one-way-or-another, by any author, ever. I think that was the whole point of the book and what I admired about it; that Gary Markwick drew-upon belief systems that are applicable to all faiths and that can be easily absorbed by and practiced etc, by the reader.

I feel the use of repetition was a refreshing approach- nobody likes having to fumble a few hundred pages back to the first time a point was mentioned, just to absorb it again! I feel that this use of repetition was necessary to the core theme of this book; self-help and realisation. The style of writing acts as a constant reminder of the main points we need to carry with us, in the forefront of our minds whilst reading it.

I do feel that nothing in this life is for free and that the well-coined phrase simply denotes the commonly accepted theory that we all have to offer something to the universe, in order to receive something back- prove our worth and that our intentions are good and pure. I feel that's the way it works. That point is expressed throughout many esoteric teachings. I guess it just depends on how you think and the limitations of the mind...

I understand what Kathryn means about childhood memory, but I don't think it was to brain-wash the reader; to completely replace or scrap everything they were taught. I think it merely suggests that we can shape our own lives, create our own paths, without feeling we have to stick to the beliefs and teachings that we were raised with. I feel that this is a healthy suggestion! I adore my parents and am very fortunate to still respect and even agree with the wonderful morals I have been raised with at 25 years of age, yet there are times we all disagree. Sometimes what's best for one person isn't for another and that can be harmful and unhealthy when imposed. After all, we all have our own experiences that lead us to think and behave a certain way... People often live their lives believing in what they feel they have to believe in, rather than what they actually feel is right for them. I'm sure have experienced that at some point in your life?!

I found 'Now it Begins' to be a thoughtful and pleasing read. It was easy to understand and follow, offers ideas on how one can shape their way of thinking to benefit their mental and physical being. I have been fortunate to meet Gary on many occasions and have been greeted by a loving, genuine and enlightened soul. I know, as do many who know him that he aims to do nothing but offer his efforts and disciplines to benefit others in life.

I feel that if we all practiced and took on-board certain points raised in this book, people would be far more peaceful, happier and accepting of one-and-other.

Now It Begins by Gary Markwick is a motivational book on how to use the law of attraction. He explains some of the steps from a different angle, complete with quirky illustrations from his own experience. In fact, it's very clear the author has lived a very conscious spiritual life, which lends credibility to his advice.

Markwick’s book is suitable for spiritual newbies as well as people who have extensive spiritual practices and knowledge; everyone who reads Now It Begins will be able to glean something from his words and be able to apply it to his or her life. The framework for his book is presented in the beginning pages. He writes about how we are all going through a shift on the planet and how we need to flow with our life lessons instead of holding onto things after they have served a purpose. The author reminds us that if we don’t learn how to move forward, we will miss out on opportunities for happiness.

Markwick also offers supplemental advice on how to go within and trust one’s feelings and the importance of meditation and detaching from the outside world. He also cautions us to be careful what we wish for. However, our mind and emotions have the power to draw our dreams into our waking lives. His explanations about all of these issues are very interesting and well-defined.

There were many times I wanted more information, such as how to interpret our specific emotions in reference to life situations and people. Also, Markwick could have presented even more healing modalities. However, probably entire books could be written on those topics alone. Perhaps Markwick is writing those right now.

I recommend this book to all those who want to improve their lives. I’ll leave you with a beautiful inspirational quote from this book: “Plant the seeds, water them, but do not keep digging them up, allow them to grow!”

Five stars go to Gary Markwick’s Now It Begins, a compendium of spiritual truths for any reader regardless of deity. Markwick’s book consists of ten phases meant to help readers turn inward so they can better distinguish the reality of spirit from the illusion of the mind to gain personal happiness.

Markwick’s sharing is deeply personal and heartfelt and Now It Begins is a reflection of his life journey and spiritual reawakening. Moreover, it’s the result of his knowing that the only way to move forward spiritually is to connect with others and love unconditionally. Only in this way can we collectively make the world a better place for all.

Reading Now It Begins is, on its own, a journey. Whether you are spiritually searching or already awake, Markwick’s book will speak to you. He casts a wide net and touches on so many spiritual topics that he is bound to spark a new knowing or reinforce an important truth. One of the messages I heard loud and clear was that we should never allow ourselves to feel like victims. Victimization, after all, is merely a frame of mind -- a personal judgment of self. Markwick emphasizes the importance of acceptance and looking for the learning in every situation. That’s a lesson we all tend to forget – especially when life is in an up cycle.

Markwick’s sensitive spirit is felt in his stories, told through parable and personal experience. His sense of caring for others and the world around him is genuine and stirring. Best of all, his words are gentle yet powerfully spirit-filled.

I highly recommend this book for any reader who desires to walk a spiritual path or is simply curious. As Markwick says, “Each person’s realization is different from another’s; the key is to find your own.” Now It Begins is the perfect step in the right direction.

finished the book..great read.

This book is a must for everyone and I can't say enough good things. It is an easy read that helps one dig deeper into their own spirituality and it offers ways to make life have more purpose. I've always been intrigued with the "Laws of Attraction" and believe everyone has it in themselves to make it work. The information in here is a good reminder on what's truly important because most of us already realize that this life is but a short journey and not a final destination.

_____________________________________________

Currently reading this book and I don't usually review until I'm totally finished but I wanted to just say...this book awesome so far!

It is such an easy read and so fascinating that I have to make sure there are no distractions for me as I continue to absorb the information ( distractions, ie my kids, noise, etc). The messages in the book are clear and make so much sense! Anyway, I have always been fascinated with the the "Laws of Attraction" and lately, my own spirituality has certainly grown, but I've allowed some negativity into my life, making me tense, stressed, etc.. And I totally believe this book has come at a time when I seriously need it. So, thank you Gary for introducing me to this book; I'm not even halfway done and I can't say enough good things!

"Now It Begins" will awaken your spirit with words that flow like running water (natural tranquility) and unforgettable visual images and stories (bold resonance); Gary Markwick is truly an authentically gifted linguistic and visual storyteller. Gary will challenge you to be the transformed snail - - - have a dream, use the power of positive intention to manifest your dream, "let go" of the outcome (detachment) and live calmly in the present, and "Accept" the consequences. When we embrace uncertainty and change, fear no longer controls and limits our future potential, and freedom is ours.

Gary's heartfelt journey to Truth is one of hope, faith, fortitude, flexibility, resiliency, and resourcefulness.

May you be blessed by Gary's healing energy, and embrace your own personal transformation and spiritual journey now! Thank you, Gary, for sharing, NOW IT BEGINS, with me and so many others!

NOW IT BEGINS will teach you to focus on the present, in the now, and try to think positively about the unfortunate events that happened in our life.

I felt really relaxed while reading this book. This is the place that I imagined myself in when I first read NOW IT BEGINS:

When Gary first messaged me about NOW IT BEGINS, I was kind of reluctant because it's my first time reading a self help book but I accepted his request because I was curious of what it contains and what it can do for me.

Markwick used ten phases which is a great help to all the readers because it's like taking a step by step procedure, or may I say, baby steps towards achieving and realizing some things in life that we thought were just simple and petty matters, but in fact, they mean a lot and they have a great effect on us now and in the future.

I love how the author tells us to try to stay away from greed and selfishness, because in that way, we also affect other people and we can pass our negativity to others even though we may not be aware of it.

In this book, the author also explains things in a different kind of way. You will surely know more about India, and about the Mayans which he also explained in NOW IT BEGINS.

One of the quotes that I really loved in this book is:

"We often spend too much time wondering or worrying what others might be thinking. When we compare ourselves with others, we are losing and draining our own resources from being able to achieve the things we want."

Before I read this book, I thought that I didn't mind what others were thinking about me, but when I thought about it harder, it dawned on me that the opinions of others still affect me sometimes no matter how hard I try to fight it. And I think that this book kind of helped me to not be affected by what other people are saying about me, maybe not totally, but it certainly helped in a way or two.

Also, another thing that really stuck to my mind was when Gary mentioned being contented and grateful for what we have right now. Many people out there seem to think that we need material things and expensive things for us to be happy, but no, there are actually more important matters than just that.

There were also some meditation exercises in this book which the readers can do in their spare time. All they need is a quiet room or a place which they feel comfortable in, and total silence. As I'm writing this review, I also realized that Gary Markwick also shared a lot of things about his life too. In the epilogue, he wrote about his life as a kid and where he grew up, his own ups and downs in his life.

All in all, I liked NOW IT BEGINS. Maybe not the typical genre that I always read, but it definitely helped me to understand some of the things in my life that I didn't have an explanation before.

I just think that the author can make this book more interesting by adding more visuals to it, like for the exercises done, and maybe having an interview with one of his clients before and sharing about their experiences? Well, that's just my opinion. :)

But all in all, good job, Gary.

Some of the INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES from NOW IT BEGINS:

"As for everything that happens in our lives, there is always a reason and a purpose. Nothing happens by chance."

"We need to take responsibility for our own actions. This is the only way we may move on in this world, otherwise, we dwell permanently in the past."

"When we compare ourselves with others, we are losing and draining our own resources from being able to achieve the things we want."

"Those that love us the most give us the greatest lessons."

"We need to learn to be non-judgemental. When we judge other people or, even ourselves by criticising and analysing, we are then creating a greater conflict within ourselves and placing too much thought on others."

"One does not need wealth for contentment or happiness, as true happiness lies within."

*I received an ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. This, however, did not influence my review in any way.*

Your life is what your thoughts make it. (Marcus Aurelius).

This is an independent review for which no payment or other consideration has been received. The author is unknown to the reviewer.

Coming from a background in fusty experimental psychology, reviewing this book posed me a challenge, it being in the tradition of folk psychology and folk healing. This is the realm of cognitive therapy, yet it’s not a textbook, it’s a distillation of traditional wisdom.
There’s no question that everyone can change their cognitions - beliefs, thoughts and emotional reactions - for the better, and re-examining obstructive beliefs from time to time is a healthy habit. Does this book facilitate this?
In addition to the usual considerations, such as production standard, literacy, readability and entertainment value, I examined whether it can deliver what it promises on the cover – the opportunity of a new beginning? The answer would depend on the skill of the author is persuading the reader, me, into a place where I can, and want, to change my maladaptive beliefs, and thereby change my future.
The first four paragraphs set out the basis of cognitive therapy in an intuitively accessible way using an understandable metaphor; then a further 230 pages follow. Changing cognitions is a long journey taken small step at a time.
Communal altruism and unconditional self-love feature, as does unconditional love of others, which begets unconditional love in return – a virtuous cycle.
We are advised to cultivate the ability to live in the day. Unpleasant echoes from the past, or fear of the future can blight our present life. Be happy one day at a time and let come what may. It’s a common observation that the poorest people in the world smile, the richest frown; the poor live in the day.
There’s advice on coping with negative emotions, strategies for change, therapies, and on clearing your head and focusing.
A substantial part describes a coherent belief system, expressed in tradition, anecdote, metaphor and analogy. The important things about beliefs is not their universality, but their utility. Do they serve the believer well? They have served the author well and may do so for you.
I’m not an adherent of alternative or new-age culture, but the author and I share important values; decency, honesty, tolerance, trust, benignity. This is the key, because, for the book to work, there must be a relationship of trust with the author. He includes an interesting narrative of his life at the end, so you see where he comes from, by accident of birth, time and place, as well as spiritually.
Did reading this book give me pause to re-examine my beliefs? Did it suggest ways to usefully improve them? Did it leave me more optimistic about my future? Yes, it did. I can honestly say that as well as being entertaining, well written and edited, it delivers what it says on the front cover.

I like reading self help books because you never know when you’re going to come across something which will really improve your life. This book is interesting because it covers so many different aspects of self help and alternative thinking and healing. The most important thing about it is that it emphasises the fact, which is often overlooked, that you can only change yourself, not others.
It is arranged in ten sections:
Phase One – changing your life
Phase Two – changing the way you think
Phase Three – allowing, accepting and achieving
Phase Four – being in the present moment
Phase Five – feeling good about yourself
Phase Six – being content
Phase Seven – sixth sense
Phase Eight – cycles of life
Phase Nine – now is the only time
Phase Ten – the higher self
There are also some stories to illustrate the points made and a short autobiography of the author.

I really liked the way the author concentrated on improvement in the here and now, because ‘now’ is all we have. There are sections on forgiving people from our past and moving on so that the lack of forgiveness does not poison the present. The section on how thinking affects your life was also interesting and definitely worth trying even if you don’t completely believe it will work.

There is a section on stress and how it affects us physically and mentally. I found the section on being content of particular interest to me. It is so easy to concentrate on plans you’ve made for the future and end up feeling discontented about the present or to focus on the bad things in your life and lose sight of the good things. Contentment is worth having even if to many people in the modern world it seems a boring idea.

The book touches on things such as alternative healing methods, the sixth sense we all have and coincidences and synchronicity. The section on cycles of life is interesting and may prompt to reader to look into the subject in more depth as will the section on the higher self.

This is a useful book for anyone who is not sure where to start with the self help, alternative healing, alternative belief systems fields. There are so many books out there on all these subjects that many will be daunted by the choices available. This book gives you a taste of and puts all the ideas into the context of one person’s life so that the reader gets an idea of how things might work for them.

'Now It Begins' by Gary Markwick, is such an excellent Spiritual self-help book and it is written with such warmth, honesty and sincerity with each subject, or topic, clearly explained.

The layout makes it very easy to read and I really love the style that Gary uses because it allows what has been written, to really sink in. I have read many self-help books but I have to say that, to date, this is one of the best I have ever read. It is truly inspirational and I cannot praise this book highly enough. It deserve to be a BESTSELLER!

There is a tremendous amount covered, even alternative therapies, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is interested life and Enlightenment and how to improve ones awareness.
Even the autobiography was very interesting and I really enjoyed reading about this remarkable individual.

In short, 'Now It Begins' is Inspirational, educational and gives the reader food for thought. I feel it is a must for everyone interested in learning how to know who we truly are and how to go about achieving this, which in turn will improve the quality of our lives.

In Markwick’s book Now it Begins he teaches us to look within and see the truth; we all have an energy source that is with us every moment of our lives, waiting and expecting us to access it at all times. Markwick encourages us to choose to make a shift, to move forward in life connecting to the power of your higher consciousness, inside of you... Next, he teaches us daily practices to maintain and or recognize our higher consciousness that leads us to a liberated life.
Page after page Markwick reminds us what miraculous beings we are. He relinquishes all, and freely he shares a distillation of his deepest revelations and practical advice about life and existence to spiritual seekers. He educates on his view of higher consciousness and the path to enlightenment, which allows a person to realize their full potential for successful living. In Marwick’s 249 pages, he outlines the techniques, principles, practices, and laws of the universe for us to use in order to awaken and strengthen our higher consciousness.
Markwick teaches us to use metaphysical forces, the older intuitive insights of the mystics and saints throughout the centuries. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the positive effects of energy and the path to access it. To justify his claims, Markwick delves into his own life and the lives of those around him to illustrate the powerful nature of this method. Marwick is a hypnotherapist, palmist, and an instructor of, Reiki, Meditation, Grounding, Palmistry and other techniques to allow you to reach your higher consciousness.
All these techniques work on the mind, body and spirit. Though many of these principles have been around for quite some time, Markwick does an excellent job of bringing new life to his ideas. He writes simple, coherent sentences to explain systematic strategies to heighten awareness of our innate spirituality and procedures to release whatever is blocking us from change and healing.
Markwick uses anecdotes to illustrate the energies, forces and vibrations in the universe. One of his most memorable stories was from his grandfather demonstrating the cycles of life: pitch a rock in the river and notice the ripples. The ripples represent cycles and how eventually everything you put out will return. Everything in life ends and there are new beginnings. “Focus on the ripple effect the pebble has created. Each ripple is a cycle of your life,” he explained. “Be careful what you cast out because everything will return to you at some point in your life” (150).
Markwick sets out to inspire the reader "to feel the passion and dedication required to get there.” There are many spiritual, ancient and metaphysical terms used in this book. He enhances the reading experience for his audience with strong, simple, natural sentences. These keep the flow steady and the pace moving. He believes in his subject matter and wants the audience to understand his message. He wants his readers to utilize practices and understand principles like meditation and the practice of the third eye.
Markwick explains the third eye in this way: “the pathway may often appear to be sometimes dark and unlit therefore; use your brightness from within to guide you. This is the awareness of the third eye. Once you begin to find your way, dim your brightness, otherwise, the ego will take control and you will stumble and fall. It is only you who can know the true path, which exists and lies ahead.”
Markwick provides detail on his view of the afterlife. If you are interested in the present life, the detail appears to drag a while. However, for readers who are interested in the after life there is plenty: ghosts, rebirth, reincarnation, he even tells us about a regression therapy that will take us into our past lives.
This book reflects several categories of metaphysics, healing alternatives, New Age, motivation, law of attraction, and self-improvement. This book is a must-have for a newbie, as it is a guide that will take you systematically through enlightenment, to know thy self. It is also a good review for spiritual practitioners; it contains solid review material and acts as a reminder of the powerful effects of being content with one self. Markwick’s candid self-disclosure, frankness and glimpses into the spirit world create a book to be used as a guide to be read repeatedly.
Markwick’s insights on failure leave a particularly profound impact on readers. He says failure is not trying and not achieving the outcome you expect. Failure is giving up. Throughout the book, he charges us to be free by trusting Energy to change us. Concluding with a new world emerging; now it begins.

The author begins this book by explaining that a shift is occurring that is raising our level of vibration to a higher state of consciousness, in which we can become more in touch and aligned with our purpose.

"It is now time to work from the heart, to connect with each other, to change our ways, thoughts and actions and give unconditional love," he writes. Now It Begins then guides the reader to understand how all these things are possible.

The book shows how to gain strength and help the world emerge from the chaos of greed, selfishness, anger and blame that we've been experiencing. Author Gary Markwick shares how to gain practical and spiritual knowledge and awareness through Ten Phases, starting with "Changing Your Life" to serve one another, which starts with unconditional love.

Phase Two is "Changing the Way You Think," important because our thoughts can transform the world. The author advocates positive thoughts as the key to happiness, accepting and being grateful for all we've been given. His recommendations throughout the book guide one to change, e.g., beginning every morning with gratitude for what you have.

Putting his spiritual guidance to work, we reach Phase Ten, "The Higher Self," in which Gary explains how we can tune into our inner awareness, our spirit guides, our unconscious minds, to find all the answers we need. We can attune to a higher frequency and develop our higher self, he instructs, by remaining in present time, thinking positive thoughts for yourself and others, enjoying your life and allowing yourself to feel good.

He advocates the practice of yoga, eating natural foods, drinking plenty of water, exercising, being in nature, and laughter, to become aligned within yourself and raise your energy. Gary also provides detailed guidance in the practice of meditation, visualization, and information on chakra balancing and kundalini energy.

In essence, Gary offers ways you can tap into the limitless energy of the moment and be part of the world's great spiritual awakening... to be guided from your heart, to remember what you have only forgotten.

Very interesting book for everyone who is starting to acknowledge spiritual aspect of their life. Although I was familiar with most of the topics in the book, there is a great message throughout the chapters. Reminders who we really are and how does everything we do and think affect what we receive.

I love the short stories and useful exercises about gratitude, visualization and meditation. I use this book as a reminder how to handle negative situations, how to relax and let go, how to just be in the moment, how to feel good and trust myself.

I would love if the author had written little more about his experiences in the exercises for raising our vibrations, but the information he gave us is a great starting point for anyone who finds them useful enough to start researching.

Title of the book says so much about what you can expect in the book - there is just now and that's all that is really important. Remember, you are not a human was, or a human will be; you are a human being.

I was sent this book by Gary to read and review, and while the subject matter is not really my thing, I could tell immediately that Gary knew what he was talking about. The book was well written, authoritative and filled with positive ideas for harnessing the best out of life. A must read for anyone on a spiritual journey looking to change their lives and the way they think. Gary takes the reader on a spiritual journey - a self-awakening if you like. And while it did not change my life, that has more to do with my own reluctance to embrace new ideas than Gary's ability to explain 'how to' do so. All round, a solid, new age read with a positive glow to it.

Wow!! I loved this book, what a great read. I was especially impressed because I'm not the kind of person who normally goes for the self help/self improvement thingy. I usually get bored with those kind of books and give up after reading about 20 pages, but I must say 'Now it Begins' was a different experience, I read it from cover to cover.

Gary Markwick has a relaxed style and has found a way to instil confidence in the reader and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve the way they relate to the world.

I don't usually enjoy 'motivational' books or books in this genre but having met Gary I decided to give it a go. It was a really nice read and lots of good points. Nicely written and very thoughtful and is a nice book to give as a gift to friends who are looking to be more insightful.

I love to read and I read for entertainment and for knowledge. As I read Now It Begins, I experienced a mix of thoughts, feelings, opinions. I found the book to be repetitive in many ways, although some people do need to hear things many times before committing it to memory, so perhaps that IS helpful for some.

For someone with some familiarity with the 7 Laws of the Universe, Christianity, The Bible (old and new testaments), Hindu teachings and practices... I see all of these things incorporated into this book in some way. These are not original ideas, nor are the presented in a new or more interesting way. One sentence in particular disturbed me and it began with "Why would the universe give you..." as thought the Universe will refuse someone help if they don't do what the Universe wants. Attaching human character traits to the Universe doesn't work for me.

Now It Begins, begins with the "illusion". That our childhoods, what we learned from others, was an illusion that we need to overcome, let go of, surrender.... find our own self... I don't disagree on many levels, but I finished this book feeling like it was more of a self-promotion book for the author, than a self-help book for the masses. With Illusion being a generational profession for this Author, I feel the need to say that this book will be praised by those it condescends to impress, and it will be seen for what it ISN'T by the intelligent.
