A suspense drama about a self centered, narcissistic woman, Jill Lawson Hawkins, a beautiful model and fashion designer. Jill lives her life doing whatever it takes to protect her image. She meets and marries Kurt Lawson, and finally feels love towards another person. Then she learns she is pregnant. Kurt is murdered, leaving Jill alone with the thought of being a single mother. Jill thought about giving the baby away, but when an opportunity to be featured as the "Perfect Mommy & Baby" comes her way, she decides to keep the baby. Annie Lawson, her daughter, is useful to her, but she feels absolutely no love for her. Annie suffers at the hand of her mother. Jill meets and marries John Hawkins who adores Annie. Will Annie's life change because she has someone to love her, or will she have to endure a lifetime of abuse?
The writing in this book is very awkward...none of the conversations seem real. My other primary complaint is how very little the author seems to understand about police and hospital procedure when it comes to child abuse. Having family members in social services, the police force and the medical profession, it drove me almost to the point of not finishing this book. I almost feel as though the author is playing on our sympathies in order to skate by with inadequate research and writing. It is terrible what Annie goes through, but my sympathy for her doesn't override what I look for in a good book. The characters have to be believable, the writing needs to flow, and the story has to progress in a somewhat realistic fashion. This book had none of those qualities, which is why I rate it as lowly as I do. It is not a book I would recommend.
It is the most Inspirational Book that I have read and I couldn't put it down. Plus, My Aunt Donna wrote it, I absolutely love all of the books that she has written.
This book was amazing and had me gripped from the first page to the last. I could not put this book down. It is an outstanding read which delves into the most unimaginable child abuse you can think of. You can't help but feel for Annie and the abuse she suffers at the hands of her mother Jill. This is a gripping book that you will not put down, One word of warning make sure you have both parts of the book before you start to read it. You will not want to stop when volume one ends. I read both of the books in 2 days and have to say I was not disappointed. Annie is a wonderful character that you want to just reach into the book and protect. Jill is an evil self-centered woman that you want to see pay for every injustice she does to her daughter. I will not give away any of the book by saying what happens but it was a very good read and will have you in tears in some parts and other parts you will smile for Annie...Great book Highly recommend
Outstanding book..could not put it down. How anyone could be so cruel, evil, manipulating is beyond words.
Donna Lee Comer describes the characters in this book with detail but without going overboard. Annie is a beautiful child unwanted and unloved. Jill is a selfish women who has no room to care about anyone but herself, including her daughter Annie.
Just downloaded book two, cannot wait to read what happens.
I agree with a lot of the previous reviews- good story line, but terrible writing! The wording the characters used was strange and irritating, the "procedures" of the police and hospital were ridiculous and far from reality. If this were written better and was closer to reality as far as police, hospitals, and child services I would have given 4-5 stars.
I really enjoyed reading this book... I finished it in one night because i couldnt put it down!! I needed to see the outcome! Great storyline... Needs a little tweaking on the actual writing and a little editing, but overall I've enjoyed it. Going to move on to the second part now
This was an easy read but kinda hard to really imagine a mother feeling like this. This book is about a girl whose momma has no feelings for her at all and the abuse she incurs. Though for moms. Oh yeah.. and it was only 2.99 and recommended to me by amazon. :)
