There was only one chance to get away from the horrible future that awaited her. Deja had to take it, no matter the danger. Sneaking out of the apartment in the middle of the night was not the best choice. The city was full of predators just like the one she was running from. The last person she would ever expect to run into was a man like Dieter von Blucher. Dieter hadn't been a criminal for quite some time. There was no word for men like him. He inhabited a sphere beyond right and wrong. He was a law on to himself. He never expected to be moved by anyone, let alone the beautiful innocent that ran right into his arms on a cold winter night.
Shara is- well let's just say touched. Born a Marine brat, Shara is a Navy Veteran with a pathological love for men in uniform, chocolate, and heroes that are maybe a touch psychotic. With over seventy-five books in her backlog, Shara has no intention of slowing down any time soon. She's definitely not safe for work, or the kids, or- you know what? She's just not safe.
Description: When Dieter inadvertently rescues Deja from the Croatian mafia, he plans to make her his mistress, but his heart, soon has him demanding more from the beautiful woman than just sex.
The Good: I really loved that the hero hailed from Germany. Ms. Azod did a wonderful job of building up to the sex, and she created really great villains with nice, specific details. The stakes are also well set. It is impossible for the reader not to want to see Deja truly rescued from the life that awaits her.
The Bad: The great premise is hindered by a lack of character and story development. Dieter’s characterization suffers from excessive interior dialogue. And Deja, in particular, is so underwritten that it’s hard to get a good read on her.
Almost every man she encounters instantly likes her and they’re willing to go through extremes to protect her or get her back, but the author fails to present us with a character who would believably inspire such commitments. One can’t just say that a character exudes light and innocence, she has to be shown doing so — and though Deja’s situation is lamentable, at no point does she come across as “light and innocent.”
The mother-daughter relationship is also way undercooked, which is a bit strange, since it ends up becoming a thing over the course of the story. In the end, this felt like a novella written too quickly and made up of instant connections, none of which were earned. Lastly, anyone who has ever been any kind of office assistant will hate the disrespectful way Dieter treats his own assistant.
The Naughty: Steamy. Lots and lots of sexual tension.
This book caught me my surprise. Initially, I thought that no way this book is as good as the hype. But this dark interracial romance certainly lived up to the expectation. And definitely worth a re-read.
This is another short story I read and I am absolutely in love with Dieter. He knows how to love and protect his woman, God help you if you touch her. I enjoyed the fact that Deja loved him for who he was even though she knew he had killed people. Two of them to protect her she did not let that stop her from loving him. I respected that about her. I highly recommend this story. I would read it again! I rarely do that!
I enjoyed Deja and Dieters story. While they start as an extremely unlikely pair, as the story progresses they seem perfect for each other. Both had rough upbringings, not in the same manner, but both lived through hardships that developed them into the people they became. I believe Deja not actually wanting anything from Dieter is what cracked his hardened heart. The pending relationship between Claus and Alicia I hope is the plot of another book. I also hope we see Tucker again.
Well done for a novella. The hero and heroine were likable. I love an anti-hero. Dieter wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty when needed. Deja grew up in a life of criminal activity but she didn't judge Dieter and although all she's ever wanted was her freedom, Dieter changed everything. Her freedom was no longer what she needed. All she needed was Dieter's love.
Just finished re-reading this book. For such a short book, it certainly was compelling. I don't want to go into the particulars of the book because I would reveal too much of the story. Suffice it to say, it was worth reading again. I just realized that there is a sequel to this book. Just put it on my Kindle, and I will be reading it too--like tonight.
This was a good story. It was to short for all it contained but I didn't enjoy it any less. When is part two coming, because the mothers story must be told?
Shara Azod has such a way of telling a story that it has you loving the hero and his darker side. Dieter was not an angel by any means and he made no excuses about his darker side of who he was you either loved him or you didn't and I definitely loved this character. The story of him and Deja was so well written that it had me hoping that Deja would give Dieter a chance and that the chemistry between them would be smoking which it was. Very well written there was still so much more to the story to be told such as the reunion between Deja and her mother along with who was this mystery buyer to solve that left me wanting more. All in all a very good read that shows you that even the baddest guys need love to.
Author Shara Azod has a new enthusiastic fan💃! Both Rescue Me with Deja & Dieter and the sequel -"Save Me " with Claus & Alicia are so good , I was genuinely sad when the stories ended! I definitely would have enjoyed reading more about these wickedly awesome , sweet Alphas and their resilient lady loves. I will definitely be reading more IR romances by this wonderful author🙌
What a great read. I loved Dieter…what you see is what you get and then some. SPOILER ALERT: When Deja was running away from Lazar’s goons and ran into Dieter and Claus, the writing was on the wall for them. Dieter loved Deja with his whole heart and asked her to marry him. Claus and Deja’s mother are together after Ggur’s death…maybe that will be another book!
This was my first Tim read in this author. The love story as different there was not all the erotic sex. It as more off the h/ h getting to know each the. I wish there had been an epilogue, however I recommend anyone reading this book, you will enjoy it.
Love takes hold in the strangest places. Deja is escaping from Croats who plan to use her. She has been raised to be a man's mistress. She escapes into the arms of a man just as dangerous, Dieter. The romance is quick and sweet.
I am pretty familiar with the author’s work and since I have found her other entries enjoyable, I did not hesitate to purchase this book. I was also attracted to the cover… or should I say the guy on the cover but ahem… I digress.
The book begins with a captivating setting. From the moment Dieter rescues Deja from Croatian thugs on a cold winter night, he is intrigued and undeniably attracted to her. Who is she? Why is she running? What kind of trouble is he getting himself into? … Ignoring the voice of reason, he whisks her away from danger and settles her in his apartment as his mistress/companion. I liked that fact that Dieter allowed Deja to come willingly to him. That enabled the relationship to develop outside of the bedroom…as much as a relationship could develop in a couple of days (and I do mean LITTERALY a couple of days!). In the meantime, I was able to get a better (but incomplete) sense of who our hero was through his musings. However, Deja just remained flat and dull. I did not know what to make of her personality and I had no idea why she was of interest to the hero. Yes, she has a somewhat sad backstory and she needs to be protected, but she is a bore.
Inevitably, they start to care deeply for each other and finally consume their passion. Declarations of love are made and promises of *almost*forever are uttered. What?? Coming from a ruthless and lonely self-made guy and a woman who has known nothing but abuse and pain?!! I am sorry but the author did not convince me at all. I could blame the book’s length but Ms. Azod has perfectly captured other love stories in just a few pages before.
Another disappointing part of the book was certainly the depiction of the mob/mafia world. Deja’s relation with the world of organized crime was such a letdown!!! Again and again, the book boasted Dieter’s superiority compared to the Croatian thugs; and that annoyed me a bit. I would rather have a more objective and in depth depiction of this mysterious realm. Once more, the number of pages did not allow for it.
Lastly, I found that whole Alicia/ Claus thing a little weird .The fact that their story was pretty much the same as the main characters’ was a bit of overkill. I sure wanted Alicia to get her happy ending but that was way too easy…and did I mention weird.
Overall, decent read but certainly disappointing considering the book had great potential.
I gave e it four stars because it was interesting and exciting to read. The editing needed to be improved such as grammar and spelling. I would recommend this novella to a friend.
