Capricorn Cove #6

Double Breasted

Rate this book
Willodean
I moved back to Capricorn Cove to escape the daily grind of the city and be closer to my brother and sister and their growing families.
So, what did I do? I bought a chicken farm,
Yep. I traded in suits and brief cases for overalls and gumboots. It sounded like a good idea at the time.
And it was. For all of five minutes. That's how long it for me to figure out that my chickens are Satan's minions as they tried to burn down the barn.
Worst day ever. Or at least, it was.
Enter Teresa 'Teddy' Prince. The hottest firefighter I've ever clapped eyes on and my newest crush.
Perhaps my chickens weren't so bad after all…

Teresa
When meeting the woman I might want to spend the rest of my life with I expected sparks, not a goddamned fire.
Willow is funny, creative, intriguing – and available.
But I've been burned before, and I know she's hiding something. After all, no one just up and buys a chicken farm… right?

Warning: This book is inspired by strong women, crazy chickens, and hot summer nights. So, get thee a partner, some lingerie, and settle in — this book is bound to ruffle your feathers.

2,5 estrellas. Creo que es el primer FF que leo y me ha gustado. También me parece reseñable que la autora normalice un tema que hasta ahora no había leído nunca en ningún libro y que afecta a muchas mujeres y a su autoestima.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really short read, as it’s basically a novella. It was my first F/F book so I wasn’t too sure how I’d go, but I found it was ok.

As it was such a short book, I didn’t find myself too invested in the characters, but that could be a personal thing, as I tend to find this with novellas in general a lot of the time.

The characters were likeable enough and it wasn’t too full on in terms of sex scenes or anything, so a good way to delve into the F/F category.

An interesting short read.

I will admit, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about a f/f story from Ms Mitchell.

I love m/m tales, but haven't gotten into female gay romance.

I shouldn't have worried. Double Breasted is a quick, sweet read that I enjoyed.

I didn't feel very connected to Willow and Teddy, and there were so many characters that I wasn't sure if I should remember them out not.

But that could just be me.

I look forward to more stories from Ms Mitchell

Only for Evie would I give FF romance a try. And I have to say she did wonderfully.

I really enjoyed all the chicken jokes and puns in this book. It had me laughing the whole way through.

I also really appreciated how Evie handled Willows cancer diagnosis, treatment and her trying to navigate a relationship with this "new" body.

Teresa and Willow's relationship and connection felt very natural and believable. Like something that would happen to friends or family members. I think that helped me enjoy the story even a little bit more.

"Light" Lesbian

As part of the Capricorn Cove Series, there is a continuation of character overlap, but this is a stand alone HEA book with 2 strong women finding their way in the world, with some humor and hotness. This is a short and sweet love story. Willowdean is going through some major life changes and moves to a chicken farm nearer to her family. Teddy is the firefighter who happens to come to the rescue, in more ways than one. Great for readers that are new to Lesbian love romances, and want to dip a toe in the pool. There is romance but sex is minimal. My only wish was that it was a little longer with some more depth. I feel there is a little more story to be told.

I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing.

Willow and Teresa are gorgeous. I've never read F/F books before. I'm a fan of M/M, so I have no idea why I've never read the opposite sex. This is a fast read that will quickly get in your heart. Willow has had a rough couple of years but bounces back beautifully. Teresa meets Willow at a difficult, later chuckle worthy moment, and both are scorched. Lol. Both are very interested from the get go but Teresa knows Willow is holding back. When that secret is out, it's beautiful. You won't be disappointed

Willow decides to move back home after health issues. She buys a chicken farm and before she can relax there is a fire and she meets Teresa (Teddy) the Fire Chief. There is an instant attraction between them. Their relationship is honest and warm with a bit of heat. I loved this book. Evie has written it with such sensitivity to a couple of topics that other writers might find difficult. Both characters and their relationship are handed with such respect. One scene even had me filling up (no spoilers). A warm hearted must read.

Sweet & Heartfelt Romance

Teddy is the head of the fire department And the mutual Pining and flirting is so amazing! It's not basic insta love but more like a spark (pun intended)

The grocery story scene Where they are flirting over frozen foods and the little trope about “let me take care of you” made me swoon!!

if you like Swoon worthy flirting & chicken themed Halloween costumes this novella is perfect for you!

I liked the book, punny because of the chicken farm and the fact that one of the women had breast cancer — many puns throughout the book! I liked their story and thought they were cute!

I'm not going to lie - I'm conflicted on how to rate this book. On the one hand, I didn't find the length (less 'novella' and more 'long short story') as frustrating as many of the reviewers below did. Yes, absolutely, I think it would have been better if Ms Mitchell had had more room to explore ALL of the heavy topics raised within it. But given the length it actually was, I felt like the story and pacing worked fine for me. And while Willow and Teddy's relationship happened quickly, I did enjoy the interactions between them, and didn't find anything about their dynamics nearly as problematic as other reviewers clearly did.

HOWEVER. I would really have appreciated a content warning at the beginning of the book for both the breast cancer and the double mastectomy (which, clearly, is where the title comes from, but I didn't click to this until much later in the book where Willow's fear insists that Teddy really wants someone 'double breasted'). Given that both the cancer and the mastectomy take place in the prologue, it's not like these would be plot spoilers - and any kind of cancer, but especially breast cancer, is something I always prefer a content warning for so I can brace myself and engage with it on a level that feels safe to me in whatever brainspace I find myself in at the time. Diving straight into Willow musing on her upcoming mastectomy on the first and second pages without a warning was a bit of a cold shock.

And that brings me to my second 'HOWEVER'. I'm reading the Capricorn Cove and Larsson Sibling books because I'm looking for 'safe warm hugs of stories' that don't spike my anxiety, so they're good night-time reading to lull my brain to sleep. You'll note that the 'safe warm hug of a story' tag that I've used for most of Ms Mitchell's books so far is noticeable by its absence for this book. That's because, for me, nothing in a story where a main character is navigating breast cancer or its aftermath will ever be a 'safe warm hug of a story'. It may still be a good story, and a story worth reading, but it's not one that I'm going to reach for when I'm trying to soothe my brain at night, because the topic as a whole just triggers too many of my own fears and worries.

So, I'm giving this instalment as a whole 3.5 stars. It might have been 4 if there'd just been more page space for Ms Mitchell to actually explore some of the topics the book raised, instead of pretty much raising them and running. It might have even been a 4.5 if there'd been more page space AND a content warning for cancer so I could have engaged with it when my brain was in the right space to do so. For now though? On to the next one.

Ripe with Storyline Potential but Sadly Falls Flat...

I have been struggling to find the words for this review for almost a week now. Struggling because this story, the wonderfully witty and interesting F/F addition to Evie Mitchell’s Capricorn Cove series, could have been, should have been, so much more…

“Double Breasted”, is the story of Willow and Teddy. Willow being the beautiful and business minded older sister to Honey, a woman who after suffering a horrific event, moves back home from the city, buys a chicken farm, and starts over. Willow’s goal, to cherish every day before her and relish the world around her, her sister, new brother-in-law, and brand new baby niece. However, right from the start her new life is pushed to the limit by evil feather wearing foes that try and unravel the very thing she is attempting to build before it even begins. Events that bring onto the scene sexy firefighter Teresa “Teddy” Prince, a strong and fearless woman who catches Willow off-guard, and leaves her wanting for things, she fears, she may never be able to have again.

What follows should have been a glorious overcoming the odds and fears, second chance at life and love, love story.  A story illustrating these two wonderful, strong, independent women.
However, instead of giving us characters that should have been full of life, containing Mitchell’s trademark strength and emotional bravery. Instead of a book stuffed full of the multifaceted scenarios, complex characters, and a wildly action packed yet poignant story landscape I have come to know and love from this author. We get a bland, timid story that hides away from the fully equipped and sexy lesbian love story it had the potential to be.

Sadly, instead of giving us her trademark hot as hell chemistry worthy of a Capricorn Cove story, we are only given a fleeting, superficial dipping of a big toe into the pool of topical possibilities. Here Mitchell barely scratches the surface of what the relationship between Willow and Teddy could actually be. And although both females are interesting and definitely ripe with storyline potential, their's felt clipped and cut far too short.

Unfortunately this one misses the mark for me. Willow and Teddy are not afforded the same strong character identities of the other Cove books and as a result I felt like I was missing important aspects of their story and connection overall. In the end thus installment is a disappointing low in an overall phenomenal series.

Willow was given the shocking news that she had stage 3 breast cancer, after dealing with a double mastectomy and rounds of chemotherapy she decides to quit her job, buy a chicken farm, and move back to Capricorn Cove. Her first day running the farm solo the chickens cause a fire. Enter fire captain, Teresa aka Teddy. The two have an instant attraction but Teddy fears Willow maybe a suspect for the fire and Willow is a little wary since her last long term girlfriend left her after finding out Willow had cancer. After security footage exonerates Willow, Teddy asks her to come in the next day to pick up the report. Before either could ask the other out the fire alarm goes off, they run into each other later that day at the grocery store. Where Willow tell Teddy she will bring her a home cooked meal, no eating frozen meals. The two start dating but any time Teddy tries to get intimate Willow freezes, this goes on for weeks, Willow always goes to Teddy’s place, she doesn’t invite Teddy to the farm. Teddy’s brother tells her to surprise her by showing up with a goodie basket and take charge of the date. Willow finally tells Teddy about her cancer and mastectomy, Teddy tells her she is a survivor and she loves her, Willow tells her she loves her too. Epilogue one with Teddy and Willow getting engaged, epilogue two with the birth of their daughter.

First things first; I really like the cover of this book!
Double breasted is the seventh book in the ‘’Capricorn cove’’ series. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. When Willowdean went through cancer and treatments she made a decision to move home when it was done. Once back home, she meets Teddy and sparks fly. Will Willodean get her happily ever after?
The chemistry between Willodean and Teresa/Teddy is clear to see and I liked them together.
I loved Willow’s bond with her family. Especially her siblings and in laws.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

I give this a 3.25 star rating I enjoyed it, it was a quick fun read definitely didn't realize it had to do with a certain topic but I didn't mind it to much though but I'm sure some will rather know beforehand I also didn't realize the other books are connected I mean they are interconnected standalones I believe because I feel you can read it without the others but the characters from it fo get mentioned as well as brief things about their life now but definitely don't feel it's crazy amount if you've read the backs of others as well as just realize they are gonna get a happy ending at least do kinda wish I picked up the others but don't mind it to much will just have to at some point get the others this book wasn't perfect some parts definitely felt there could've been a little more but I still enjoyed it as well as the characters overall so im glad I got it

I really wanted to like this book more than I did.
The setup was fantastic: quirky city girl decides to take up chicken farming only to have her barn catch fire in the first 10 minutes she's alone, meets gorgeous firefighter. It's like a classic romance and, even though I've never read f/f before, I was really excited to see how it played out.
Unfortunately it just didn't live up to the other books in the series. Admittedly these books are fluffy, fun reads, but many of the others have actually had some decent, if simple, plots. And this one had the potential to be super amazing... it just fell a little short in the execution. Still a good book by Mitchell, definitely worth the 30 minutes to 2 hours it'll take to read it, just not my favorite of her instalove novellas.

I almost took a break from this series but my need to hyperfixate on a series from start to finish wouldn't allow the abandonment. I'm so happy I stuck it out.

Willow and Teddy are so adorable. Willow's back story tugs all the heartstrings. Seeing how Tristan is with her reinforced his kind heart and protective nature.

Teddy's relationship with her brother was solid, comical, and comfortable. It's nice to have a same sex love story with supportive families.

The intimacy was vanilla and safe but considering the journey to get there, it was appropriate and joyful.

This is a sweet love story I could see on Disney Plus, Netflix, or Lifetime.

4.5 stars. This was so cute what the fuck? Ugh! I wish this had been a full length novel because I adored Willodean and Teddy SO much. Willow is a cancer survivor and her story had my heart hurting for her. Teddy is a firefighter and I loved the way she loved Willow. Their chemistry was seriously so good. The side characters were wonderful as well. This was sweet, had heart, funny, and a bit sexy. I loved it. Especially those last two epilogues. I was smiling like an idiot. Into my Comfort Reads folder this goes and I already want to read it again.

Fast paced

Loved the beginning. So deep and powerful!
Wished it was a bit longer. Felt like there could have been more to fill it out, like the others in the series.
Wanted to know where they settled. Did they sell the farm or redo it and make it a modern and profitable enterprise?
The new addition, who and how of it. (Not spoiling it)
A glimpse five years down the road would have been great.

One of my favorite things about Evie’s books are the real ness to them, && she didn’t disappoint me in this book either!
I appreciate the fact that it was straight forward, && the relationship developed quickly && just like me and my partner say “girls just move faster than a regular couple” it happened here.
I was very glad to see that.

Quick sweet read!

I’m loving the Capricorn Cove series, I’ve been reading a book or two a day this past week.
Every book is quick, fun instantly love and I am here for it! I also love that each couple has a completely different story, no two are the same!

This FF showcases two badass women! Quick fun read, highly recommend this book and series!

super cute

3.5 actually
My biggest issue with this series is that bc stories are so short I feel like I’m not able to fully invest in the characters (totally a Me thing though). This instillation seemed to have a good amount of buildup between the two MCs which allowed me to have more of a connection

4.5/5 ⭐️s
🌶️1/2 - low to medium spice

LOVES:
- The way they kind of dance around each other and banter is cute
- Willow’s nervousness in regards to her body is understandable, but so sad 😔 Seriously, Willow’s ex-girlfriend is some kind of trash. The way Teddy handles the reveal was beautiful 🥹
- Adorable epilogues 🥰

So cute, loving this town and these characters!

Cute concept and characters, but it was way too short. Not in an “oh, I never wanted the story to end” way, but in a “this story is so rushed I can’t wait for it to end” way.

I’d love if the novella was expanded into a full book, but as is, it’s basically a meet cute, sex scene, and epilogue smashed together, with all the rest left out.

Well developed main character

I liked the premise of this story and the characterization of Willow and her backstory, but never really got a sense of who Teresa was.. After so much about Willow, I wanted more for her love interest.
