A very quick read.

Eric is an undercover cop who under the name Dele has infiltrated a biker gang known as the Demons in order to gather evidence of murder, drug running and other assorted crimes. As the book begins he finds himself in rather a pickle. The leader of the Demons, a knuckle dragging neanderthal named Rez has given Dele an ultimatum since he is the low man on the totem pole: find and restore a mysteriously missing stash of heroin or get dead.

Since Dele is so deep undercover and is constantly being watched he finds it difficult to communicate with any backup so he is racing against time to save his own life and to find the last bit of real evidence he needs to take the gang down.

But just when it seems things can't get any worse -- they do. Nailah Madsen unwisely decides to take umbrage with the fact that the noisy bikers caused her to drop her newly purchased and highly anticipated barbecue rib dinner (...oh, honey, I know!). So as not to lose face at a rib-throwing woman, they snatch her off the street to teach her a lesson. Dele maneuvers it so that she is considered his 'property'. So now he has to keep not only himself alive but keep Nailah safe as well, not just keep her alive but from fates worse than death.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I must say I thought the level of writing and storytelling was excellent. I liked that we weren't bogged down with huge amounts of descriptions or incongruous moments of lust. What I got was a highly charged, tense story filled with suspense and danger.

What I didn't get, though, was a convincing romance. The story takes place over just a few, very intense days. Dele is constantly thinking, trying to out-maneuver Rez and keep both himself and Nailah safe. The thrust of the story is the hostage situation Nailah finds herself in and the anticipation of how she and Dele get out of it. While the two do spend some time alone together and do actually consummate their relationship, it feels almost perfunctory. I didn't get a real sense of intimacy or deep connection between them. The story simply did not give them enough time to build it.

So for a thriller/suspense/action story this was great. As a romance, not so much.

Sharon Cullars is one of those hidden gems of romance--PERIOD! Every Cullars novel, from the absolutely breathtaking and imaginative Again to the historical Gold Mountain is what reading romance is all about. Real characters who balance each other's strengths and weaknesses. Her narrative flows like a gentle river while her characters leap right off the pages. There are no stereotyped "perfect" people in her books. Her alpha men aren't caricatures and the heroines are self-sufficient and smart.

Nowhere is that more apparent than with Nailah Madsen, budding financial planner out of work and trying to figure out what next in her pretty ordinary life. That ordinary life takes a highly dangerous turn as she's nearly run over by a group of bikers called the Demons. Nailah's already in a bad mood after a job interview gone sour, and her box of famous Ruby's ribs has hit the ground. Without a second thought, Nailah throws one at the back of a bad-ass biker dude named Dele. When it hits him and almost causes him to crash, the leader of the Demons demands payback--by having Dele kidnap Nailah to "teach her a lesson".

Dele isn't a biker though, and it takes everything he has to get a pissed-off and terrified ordinary woman to trust him to save both their lives. Cullars obviously did her homework when it came to biker culture, because her depiction of this seedy underworld is pretty spot on, right down to how women are viewed in biker gangs. This novella had be gasping and holding my breath as Dele and Nailah do everything they can to survive, and somehow in the midst of danger, forming a deep connection.

Normally books this short don't live up to the promise, but I have only one complaint here (which I won't mention because it would be a spoiler). Oh and I loved all the Inglewood references. It's nice to see my neighborhood acccurately represented--outside of the Demons, LOL. Other than that, this was a wonderful and action-filled story. Ms. Cullars has a fan for life!

Description: Who knew that a love of short ribs could get one character into so much trouble? But when an angry Nailah throws a short rib at a group of dangerous bikers, the person she hits, Dele — who just so happens to be an undercover cop disguised as one them — is forced to kidnap her. Now all he has to do is figure out how to keep both of them alive and solve the case.

The Good: I bought this, no sample needed, because Sharon Cullars has proven herself to be an amazing storyteller with a strong writing voice. The stakes are extremely high — I mean through the roof. Just when you think they’re as high as they can go, they jump up another level. This makes SNATCHED a burning page-turner, which will keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t read it fast enough.

The Bad: As a character, Nailah is like a bad episode of “when keeping it real goes wrong.” Though I eventually came to accept her throwing a rib at a biker in a moment of pique, her continued hotheadness in the face of true danger made her frustrating and hard to root for at times. And though her complete inability to follow instructions or keep her mouth shut at crucial moments, eventually comes in handy in the overall story arc, it flatlines the heroine’s own arc.

The Naughty: Sensual. Sex in a hostage situation. Implied rape.

It was okay...a good enough read. I didn't think it was on par with Cullars' other works though. Again and The Object of Love were really well written. Snatched is not as rich in story, nor is the writing itself on the same level as the aforementioned. I spotted several grammatical errors. This was a surprise for me considering the standard to which I had become accustomed when reading a Cullars selection.

I also did not anticipate the lack of descriptions of the main characters. The reader is told little about what Eric/Dele looks like and nothing about Nailah, except that others find her "hot." The sex scenes, with their very clinical descriptions, left a lot to be desired as well. These issues alongside the missing nuances, character and setting development, and sufficient pacing made for a less enjoyable read for me than I have otherwise experienced with Cullars. Additionally, while there is no shortage of tension in this book, Cullars has managed to imbue her other works with a stronger sense of tension as well. Everything is more or less diluted in this latest novel of hers.

My greatest issue, however, is the fact that I felt short-changed in getting to know Eric and Nailah and believed that Cullars cheated in not granting the reader adequate insight into the inner workings of each character. These little reflections Cullars has each character do as they remember bits of their history is seemingly in league with the book's scope remaining firmly in the immediate and intense present but in fact I felt that it was just a ploy utilised for brevity. A cheap short cut. This makes for shallowness, a lack of true involvement and investment with the characters.

I also wanted Eric and Nailah to get to know each other...perhaps so I can believe the romance. I waited for some divulgence of each other's history or some such to the other all the way to the end, thinking in the reconciliation there might be some occurrence then. But, no, nothing. I needed the romance to be grappled to something...or else it just might be Stockholm's syndrome. (It isn't but show me that.) Escaping a harrowing experience together, granted, but there needed to be more made of the connection between them, more substantiation to anchor their bond.

Moreover, I had one nagging inconsistency in my mind for the entire book. Nailah's neighbourhood sounds like, well, the hood. She's a former investment banker. How is this the case?

I felt as if Cullars wrote this one in a hurry. Snatched reads like an outline beginning to take shape and not as a fully developed tale... as if Cullars was on a deadline to a demanding agent. It also reads like more suspense less romance...and after reading this I remember why I don't read suspense...just not my genre.

I really enjoyed this biker romance from Sharon Cullars. She does a great job of making a suspenseful romance. She has the amazing ability to create romance for two unlikely people who were not looking for each other, but find love through unexpected circumstances. Nailiah Madsen's day goes from bad too worse when she is literally "Snatched" off the street by a biker gang known as the Demons. Nailah's personal kidnapper is Dele Larson aka Eric McIntire. He is deep undercover with Demons. His day wasn't going much better than Nailah's as he is being framed by for stealing from the leader's stash. The last thing he wants to deal with is the headache of this woman. I think readers will be able to what got Nailah in the situation in the first place. We all might have done something impulsive that we have regretted. We have all know what it's like to be frustrated beyond belief and to say or do something that we wish would could take back. Nailah is having just those kinds of thoughts. I felt her fear and anxiety, but also her toughness and determination to stay alive and not go down without a fight. I think she finds out things about herself that are unexpected. But at the same times she does make a lot of understandable mistakes. After all she is a former workaholic, so surviving a kidnapping isn't something she has a lot of experience with. And Dele is obviously new to kidnapping women off the street, but he knows the image he needs to project to the other members of the gang and the leader, Rez. The story moves at a fast pace and is full of surprises. This was a story where I found myself liking and routing for the characters. And honestly, I never thought I would be interested in reading story like this before, but Sharon Cullars makes likable characters that sometimes have to make questionable choices. And there is definitely a sexual attraction between them is very strong. The crazy circumstance they are in leads to fighting and frustration as they are both very stubborn. When they do get together is the tension and element of danger the lends itself to hot sex when two people are forced together under stressful circumstances. But where can it go from there? That's what keeps me reading this story and all of Sharon Cullars other books. Just when you think the story has hit it's peak there is so much more for reader to enjoy. This is definitely a top recommendation for me.

There were some fun dialogue in this book. It's very short and it definitely isn't my favorite from cullars. I absolutely hated the SOA vibe and just how terrible the gang was in general---so I'm sure that grated my nerves.

Not finished at around 70%. Dispel disbelief of the plot. Cannot stand the girl. She is dysfunctional, crazy and irrational. Cannot warm up to her and could not care less what happens.

Very good

I enjoyed the character development and the empathy they shared due to the forced predicament. They both were fighters that used their brain.
