A tree full of enormous spiders; curtains like a dead man's hair; a man with no eyes and a boy with no heart. These are some of the things in these stories by M.R. James, one of the greatest horror writers of all time. From p. 4 of cover.
Learning English on my own. Text + audio. This was just an okay reading. Even though it's for intermediate students, the 9 short stories were retold with easy texts. I think that this was an introduction to M. R. James' work for me. This is the third time that I had read this book, but now I paid more attention than I did before.
things in the night ,things in the house ,screaming and running to hit your face or your head ..spiders living on drinking people blood..the terrible ghost outside the window..the old man who reads without eyes .
the book consist of ten short stories .I like it especially the second story(a school story) and the last (the two cousins).
At first, I thought it was based on just one story, but it turned out to be a collection of several tales. Despite my initial disappointment, it was still an enjoyable read. Don't expect too much—it's a short and easy read, only a few pages long.
The feel of a Gothic novel was definitely present in this book. The author had a good understanding of how to create the atmosphere for a horror story. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style and storytelling. Overall, all the stories were very good and I enjoyed reading them.
It was a fast read, interesting book with several stories, I’m sure it was scary back then, but now it’s not scary, but more like the type you will remember for a long time.
