From Bluewater California to Nome Alaska, Ellie Hightower has made the journey looking for a fresh start. Her new found gifts of telepathy and healing are frightening her, and driving her to want to find a normal life in the very place her beloved Gran talked about all her life. But the last thing she was expecting was to fall in love with Mike Stone, her new boss. But their love story has only just begun when Katrianna, a beautiful vampire, comes along. Her sexy antics upset the women of Nome, and Ellie most of all, as Katrianna is soon looking to have Mike all to herself and destroy Ellie’s new found happiness.
I have such fond memories of my grandmothers. They were both special in their own way and taught me so much about how to live my life that I will be forever grateful! Here’s the list of six top things they shared with me:
(1) Don’t say anything if you can’t say something nice about someone. I think this is my favorite one as it has kept me in good stead all my life.
(2) Never be late. Doing so makes you think you’re more important than someone else. You’re not!
(3) Life is too serious to be taken seriously. Keep a sense of humor, it will help get you through the hard times. They were both right about that one.
(4) Share what you can with those in need. Know what is your burden to bear, and what is not. This one has kept me sane over the years.
(5) Don’t be a critic. Critic’s don’t create, they only tear down. This helps me when reviewers say unkind things about my work. I try to remember that they probably just need a hug today.
(6) Do the best you can do at everything you do. At least then you will know you gave it your all.
Thank you, my beautiful grandmothers, for being strong and sharing your gems of wisdom with me. You did more good than you can possibly know. Hugs, January Bain
In so many vampire books these days, the vamp is the hero (which isn't bad; it just is). But this story takes us back to vampires being the bad guy.
I liked the added supernatural element of Ellie's gift added into the mix. It ends up being a true fight between good and evil with a resolution that ties everything together nicely.
The first time Ellie tried to use her abilities on purpose, I became frustrated right along with her, wishing everyone else would just leave her alone already so she could concentrate. That was one of my favorite tense scenes.
The overall mood of the story has a sweetness to is (but the intimate scenes will get spicy!). Both Ellie and Mike are super nice people who you're happy to see hook up. And Mike's neice is like a cherry on top of their happy little family. It's a romance that will make you want to smile and say 'awwww!' with just enough paranormal and action scenes to have you cheering "You go, girl!" whenever Ellie pulls out her superpower!
I had to find out what the next book in the series, Forever Woman, was going to be about, and was happy to see Aiden, Ellie's brother, starring in the book 2 of the Forever series.
For readers who are totally bothered by any grammar errors in their story, there are one or two. But if you're not: just disregard this last line!
There's 23 year old Ellie, moving from a little town in California to Nome, Alaska. She immediately gets a job at a restaurant/bar from owner Mike, and his niece Julie is very welcoming; they instantly become good friends. Then there are some strange events that occur, people are either getting hurt or are shown dead. There are some situations that show Ellie's newfound gift to heal and you will see whom she does use this gift on. Then there's some Russian Beauty, Katrianna, who stirs some trouble of her own, and it was interesting to read what she does, really! The romance between Ellie and Mike...whoa, it was wonderfully written, yup! You'll just have to read what manifests between these two! All in all, this was a very nice written story. I liked how the characters were developed as they are distinguished and I can tell what their personality would be like. This was a good Paranormal read, and hope you read it!
I am use to reading books where the vampires are the heroes in some ways, or I read allot of vampire romances. So this was definitely a different type of vampire read for me. But I really enjoyed it.
Firstly huge plus to January Bain’s vocabulary!! I absolutely LOVE it when I come across words that I don’t know! One of my favorite things about reading, really! And in January’s books there are multiple words that I either had to look up or that I was surprised to see. Absolutely fantastic and really made this reading even better for me.
Secondly, and on a negative note. If you do not like insta love, these may not be for you. In each book of the series there is insta love. Now, don’t get me wrong, this normally doesn’t distress me that much but in these cases it was a bit much. Although the stories were still really good and I enjoyed the vampire aspect of all three, that insta love thing… whew, just kills me sometimes.
Now! With that said!! The characters were really well portrayed. Although there is insta love, I did feel like January helps us get to know the characters in each of these books and the reasons for their motives. And whew! Talk about smoking! There are a few parts where the characters really “get together” and I could feel the heat through my kindle! Love, Love, Love, LOVE how the characters relationships worked AFTER the insta love thing.
I was also surprised as she weaved in a few names that we all know, like Joan of Arc, and although I thought I wouldn’t like this, bit they grew on me and I really enjoyed each of those characters.
And I love a good vamp story, but January weaves a few things into these three books that will leaving you wanting more of them. Each story has it’s own ending but I definitely recommend reading these in order as the characters do show up in the second and third. The endings were also really good, although I would have loved just a bit more with each. It’s not that they were rushed exactly but just that little bit more would have made these perfect!
Love a good vamp romance? Then these are definitely for you!
I read this book a while back but I did not have time to review it until now. This is not a genre that I normally read but if you love paranormal stories with lots of action, you will love this book. The main character Ellie has a problem accepting her superpowers at first, but when she does, she is a force to be reckoned with. The romance between her and Mike is the icing on the cake. The author does a good job of creating characters are compelling. A good read.
A steamy romance, the horror of gory deaths, and the terror of a vampire on the hunt – couldn’t put the book down until the end or turn out the lights afterwards. When an ancient Evil stalks the streets of Nome then moves next door, Ellie Hightower must fight for the man she loves. The ominous footsteps in the dark hallway or a heart-stopping knock on her door could end her new life. A fast-paced story with compelling characters and vivid descriptions, Forever Man is a great read.
