1. The author made it too obvious that they were deliberately not saying whether “Nick” was male or female. “It was about Nick. Nick was her life. Couldn’t she do this one thing for Nick?” Normally, after the first use of “Nick”, the rest would be replaced with “he” or “she”.
2. Considering the contents of Zach's grandfather's will, it would have looked pretty suspicious for Zach to marry someone he’d only known for 3 weeks.
3. First, Zach said that there would be no “intimacy” in their marriage, that he would never put any “pressure” on her “in that respect” and that if he did, their contract would become invalid. Then, he told her that she had to “consummate” the marriage. ????
4. Zach said this would be a “business arrangement” and that they would not be “personally involved”. Yet, even before their wedding day, he was calling her “my adorable Andie”. Within a couple of days they were dancing together, snuggling on the couch and holding each other while they enjoyed the view. That sounds kinda “personal” to me.
5. Zach said that the only three people who would know that their marriage wasn’t real would be himself, Andie and Robert, his lawyer. Yet, they openly had separate bedrooms, both on their honeymoon and when they came home, a fact that would have looked pretty odd to the housekeepers.
6. By the second day of their “honeymoon”, they were having $ex and spending every minute of the day together. They both admitted that things had changed between them and that they wanted to see where things were going. Yet, Zach still wouldn’t let Andie tell him her story because he didn’t want to get “too personal”.
7. I’m at 46%. How long is the author going to keep on dragging out the mystery of who “Nick” is? Spoiler ... almost to the end of the book.
8. Zach was TSTL.
a. After they met Cami at the social, she was furious when she found out that he had married Andie yet he was “incredulous” when Andie insisted that Cami was in love with him.
b. He refused on multiple occasions to let Andie tell him her story and where she went every day. Instead, he decided to follow her and find out that way.
c. He insisted that she join him for social occasions for the sake of appearances and then publicly ignored her in favour of Cami. He barely spoke to her or looked at her, instead he danced slow, “close” dances with Cami.
d. He believed Andie’s story about Charles but completely forgot about the name “Nick” that she was calling in her sleep.
e. He followed Andie again! Didn’t he learn his lesson the first time? He didn’t even try asking her where she was going.
9. I don’t believe that Zach could have missed TWENTY-FIVE calls from Andie. A rich, powerful man who owns and runs multiple businesses does not turn off and forget his phone for over 24 hours.
10. What started out as a romance ending up being a heartbreaking story about losing a child to cancer. No thanks.
