The Battles are the Best Bits

Rate this book
'A very good informative read' 'I highly recommend it' Ever wanted to know more about ancient history but didn’t know where to start? The Battles are the Best Bits will take you on a journey from the beginnings of civilisation in Mesopotamia and the glory days of Ancient Egypt, through the brutal rise and fall of Assyria and the epic struggle between Greece and Persia, to the spectacular triumphs and calamitous disasters of the Roman Empire and finally to the shock-wave of the Arab conquests. With passion and humour, the author relates how he set out wanting to know more and found himself captivated by the greatest story ever told. 'A really fascinating read with lots of good insights, covering a huge period of history- yet also very skillfully handled.' 'For me the people and places came alive, as the author tells the story with his own warmth and humour, while sharing his knowledge and increasing mine.'

I was born in 1978 in Horsham, Sussex, UK. I have a degree in Genetics from Cardiff University. Following graduation I moved to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and spent ten years working for the Forensic Science Service.
I have always enjoyed writing for my own pleasure and for the amusement of friends and family and have also always had a great love of history. In 2007 I decided to combine the two and began writing my first book 'The Battles are the Best Bits'. Having recently published my first book I am now looking for a new writing challenge and have started work on my novel 'Fall of Empires'.

A really great read with lots of good insights, covering a huge period of history- yet also very skillfully handled. The book is filled with the authors black humour, which works very well and this is coupled with an obvious passion for the subject. His enthusiasm is always enlightening and entertaining. I highly recommend it.
