Chinese historical dramas are one of my favorite things to watch, so seeing this manhua sparked my interest. As with all my comic reviews, this covers the entire series, which I believe is 8 volumes long.
I will say that I did find a lot of the ideas interesting; the dynamic between Ling Yu, Ninghu, King Xun, and Yuanren was exciting and had the potential to be really tantalizing. Set up as a story about the entitlement of various ancient kingdoms in Asia, we follow a young noblewoman named Ninghu who is sent to the palace in disguise by her older brother in the hopes she can become queen, only for her to become entangled in far more than simply rising to a political seat as she falls in love with the king's personal attendant and favorite, Ling Yu, and finds him returning her feelings.
While I think the idea was really good, the story had pacing problems. Some elements weren't given enough time while others were done too slowly or done repetitively enough to get annoying. I also craved more complexity from the relationships; more turmoil, more emotion! It seems the framework was there, but the author didn't want to draw the extra chapters to let things develop. I believe the comic covers several years of time, yet there's little to mark the passage. It's easy to feel like you missed things with this story.
Though I will say that the fan scans I read probably weren't of much help do to lower-quality translations, incomplete files, etc. but even with them, the story I got was still somewhat lacking compared to what it could have been. I enjoyed Ninghu's character and liked that there was a relatively happy ending, but it just overall seemed a little contrived and underdeveloped for my tastes.
At about 30 total chapters, it's a quick read, but I probably wouldn't give this super strong recommendations. The art is decent, but has a certain aesthetic that I personally don't like, so while it was competent I didn't find it especially pretty or anything.

A historical romance with conspiracies, betrayals, executions, secrets and heavy family intrigues that bring lot of twists to this manga.
