For an exclusive excerpt from Pearl Lover, go to my site.

Featuring a dash of classical ballet dancers, a hint of a sting operation, and a medley of point of views, this novel will have you marveling at all that one string of pearls can represent.

I found Pearl Lover to be a tad confusing at the beginning, so I’ll give you the basics:

-Nixie wants to be in full control of her inheritance.
-To do so, she must be in control of her guardian.
-If she marries someone over the age of 25, her husband will become this guardian. Otherwise, her guardian will remain her wicked mother.
-When I say ‘wicked’, I mean wicked. Nixie’s mother refuses to support her dream, which is to give new life to the Ballet Russes, a dead ballet company.

Needless to say, this premise is gripping. There comes a point in everyone’s when life when bad guys and inner conflict just become so… what’s the word? Predictable. Give me a clash with a villainous mother—maybe I’m just happy that this YA protagonist’s mother is actually alive—and a war with Europe’s failing economy any day of the week.

Especially when that war involves so many details on the ways of the world of dance. I don’t think that I’ve ever learned so many ballet terms and intricacies in my life than in the last 48 hours, and I used to dance it. (Yeah, that was before I figured out that I’m incredibly uncoordinated.) Now that I’ve finished Pearl Lover, I just feel so cultured.

Nevertheless, every novel has issues, and my number one with this novel is Nixie’s unashamed subserviency. She blatantly calls herself Kolya’s “Slave” on more than one occasion and declares herself “for the chauvinists”. These degrading comments, perhaps intended to be attractive to some, didn’t sit well with me; I found myself grimacing at them all too often. Miss Noli, I appreciate the gesture, but self-respect is actually a thing now.

Moving on, as I mentioned before, this is a really fast read. Although it takes place over the course of years, you’ll finish Pearl Lover in a matter of hours; the pacing is fast and the action is unfaltering.

Pearl Lover deserves 3/5 stars. For fans of living, breathing mothers, catty economies, and the complexities of ballet-dancing. Oh, and as a side note: this one is definitely for the elder group of young adults.

Power, greed, and lust are all major themes consistant throughout this story as it emerses you into the world of ballet. Not the tutus, prima ballerinas, and serene choreography aspect, but the competition, financing, and grueling rehearsals it takes to create a successful dance company during the crash of the European stock market.

Characters

Nixie infuriated me. She purposefully makes herself subserviant to men i.e. Kolya. She calls herself his "servant" and from beginning to end she continues to finance Kolya's dream of owning a ballet company even when she goes into debt. She is spoiled and way too naive/gullible for my taste. Even when Morten, who marries her in order for her to gain her inheritance, falls in love (instalove) with her and works to the bone to get her out of debt, she continues to ignore him. She only has eyes for Kolya, who doesn't even respect her! Those pearls are her chains of slavery.

Kolya is extremely selfish and will do anything to achieve his dream of owning the Ballet Russes. Everyone in the book seems to only accommodate his needs. Kolya seems to be the main character, not Nixie. His character is way bipolar and he is such a drama king. He brings everyone down emotionally and especially financially and keeps insisting "next time we will be famous".

To sum up Kolya and Nixie's relationship (It's like a twisted version of The Great Gatsby):
Everytime she felt as if she were getting through to him, he became indifferent; and everytime she was cold, he gave her a sign that he recalled their intimacy.

Morten: I feel so sad for him because he is the only honest character in the whole entire book. I would have totally bailed on Nixie because of her twisted relationship with Kolya. I'm glad he got some happiness in the end.

Maria (Nixie's mom): She is the only sane one I swear. She sees through Kolya's lies and loves her daughter dearly. She knew right from the beginning Nixie was going to fail and suffer because of Kolya.

Plot
The author expects the reader to be able to infer most of the time. Details are missing and are confusing. Questions are never answered. Just when you get into the book BAM! instalove from Morten towards Nixie. The plot is very predictable. But the theme of ruined innocence is done very well. The author does seem to know a lot about ballet and the diction/tone of character dialogue is done well.

Setting
I seriously have no idea what the time period book. It gives off a 1920s vibe because of the gilded age similarities when the author describes the world of the wealthy (greed). But the telephones and computers pop up?

Overall: The turbulent emotions are too out of control for me to enjoy this book. It's not that I don't understand/relate to these disturbing themes, it's because the story had no balance. It was all about depair and the fall of greedy/prideful beings. Everything was always about the money. There was no compassion, joy, or sadness. Only a superficial feeling of "love".

Cover: Why doesn't it have the author's name on it??

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I received no compensation for my review whatsoever.

First of all, I have to say I adore the cover; it's exactly how I would picture Nixie, the main character. This book was so different from anything I've read, and that was my favorite aspect in trying out a genre I might not otherwise have noticed. The story itself is definitely interesting, but in the beginning there wasn't quite enough setting and character description for me. As the story developed, however, I did become invested in the characters, especially Nixie. I really grew to love her!

Maria, Nixie's mother, was never much of a mother and seemed selfish. I truly believe she only married Nixie's father for his money, and she never questioned where it came from; she just wanted to spend it and live in luxury. Maria is just horrible in my opinion!

I found it really strange that Nixie's father told her to take her money and run so her mother wouldn't get it. Wouldn't the mother get control of it anyway since Nixie was only 17 and a minor? And Nixie does not seem like she's 17--she's probably the most mature character in the book (except for Morten). She's more like a 30 year old. Nixie's "boyfriend" Kolya, is the opposite of her in maturity. He's childish, throws tantrums, and overall doesn't care about anyone but himself. I never believed for a second that he loved Nixie--once again, it was about her money that he wanted to start up a Russian ballet company. I really don't know what she saw in him. Their common interest in ballet? They're both dancers. I became really protective of Nixie as you can see. :)

Nixie, though seemingly mature in character, is frustratingly naive and cannot see that Kolya is using her. She gave up her dreams for him. The marriage of convenience to Morten seems like more of a real relationship than the one with Kolya, although I have a problem with Morten falling in love with her at first sight when he didn't even know her. He's allowing Nixie to use him, and so I felt for him, too. I didn't believe Morten was in love with Nixie because he said it happened at first sight, and that really isn't realistic. I think it's more like lust at first sight, not love. I did believe, however, that he fell in love with her over time.

As the story unfolded, I was desperate to find out how it would end and was definitely not disappointed. This novel has an ending I never saw coming and was completely satisfied with! I'd reread this book and will be highly recommending it to others. :)

Pearl Lover is the story of Nixie, Morten and Kolya. A love triangle set in the ballet world. It might seem like a simple love triangle but it’s deeper than that. It’s a story about acceptance, about struggle to be the owner of your destiny and about what we are willing to do for those we love.
It all start when Nixie father’s die. Her mother (Maria) wants to control her and the inheritance until she turns at least 21. Maria, a former dancer, is the typical wealthy woman, who only cares money and what people think.
Nixie has to marry a man she doesn’t love in order to be able to control her money and start her own ballet company. Kolya the dancer she really loves is the head of the company. And then we had Morten, a former police officer, who believes in love at first sight and is willing to do anything just to make Nixie happy.
The book moves very fast between the start of the company, their travelling across Europa, their struggle to perform and then to survive to the final end which I will not spoil. It’s a well-developed background for all the romance.
It also has a magnificent description about ballet. I’m a ballet fan and the dances and movements of the ballerinas are so well written that you could almost feel like you were at the theatre watching a play.
And now about the love triangle. The story between the three characters is intense to say the least. The idea of been able to love more than one person at the time is something that reader as well as the characters will have to accept or at least try to understand. Their feelings, choices and their attempts to do the right thing are very fun to read.
The book takes you in a roller-coaster of emotions. I changed from hating Kolya to like him and the same with Nixie but I loved Morten all the time. As for Maria she is the bad-guy of the book, is really hard to feel anything good about her.
I really liked Pearl Lover and I recommend it to all romance lovers out there.

ORIGINAL REVIEW AT LITTLEBOOKSTAR.WORDPRESS.COM
RATE: 3.5/5

First of all, this is the first review request that I got, 2 days after I made my blog! I was really happy that an author contacted me as I had NO idea about blog tours, review requests, and all that shananigins book bloggers do. Because of Kea Noli and her book Pearl Lover, I have decided to take book blogging seriously and boy it’s fun! If she hadn’t contacted me, I would’ve probably just stayed on Goodreads and do my reviews there. So glad you found my blog Kea! Basically she inspired me to continue this blog so I just wanna thank her :)

Okay, Pearl Lover, let me just tell you my first impression of this book. UNIQUE. The title, the characters’ names, the plot, they are all unique, well the whole book is! I’ve never read anything like it. It’s really a page-turner and did not bore me at all. The first chapter kind of confused me though, but you will understand what’s happening, just keep on reading. If you are into dancing, ballet to be specific, or if you like love triangles, then you should give this book a try!

Now, for the things that I disliked. I didn’t like the fact that the word ‘spat’ was used over and over. There were also one or two misspelled words in there, it didn’t bother me that much, but I thought I’d let you guys know because some readers are sensitive to that case. Also, I felt like after a page, it would go to a new topic, then after a page, a new topic would begin again. Basically page after page there’s a new thing going on. So for me, the story was great but it was choppy. As it said in the summary, the wicked witch in this book, is no other than Nixie’s (the protagonist) mother, Maria. I didn’t feel like she was that cruel. I felt like she was being overly over-protective. I thought the author could’ve put more examples or scenes of how harsh Maria was.

Overall I would read this book again and would recommend it to anyone! It’s something new and the idea is very original. A ‘very good’ rate for Pearl Lover.

I received this book in return for a honest review from the author. The book is mainly about Nixie Veidt and her life after her father dies. As her father dies on his deathbed Nixie is directed to Conrad a business connection who will help her get the money in a safe spot before her mother can take it all and be her guardian. However it's never that simple and Nixie faces the threat of being arrested but Morten the cop provides a option of marriage that will keep the cops at bay as well as her mother from trying to claim guardianship.

She has to wait till her 19th birthday before she can end the marriage and be with Kolya the Russian dancer she is in love with. Nixie and Kolya spend all her money trying to make a ballet company take off expecting it to be easy it turns into a hardship that will test their relationships as well as the relationships of those around them. Since Nixie is married to Morten, her dancer Kolya takes on a lover of his own Lea who he falls for leaving Nixie feeling very alone.

I loved Nixie as a character she won me over even though I would have gone crazy if I was here. She's such a strongly written character. In the book she has to make a few hard choices that change her life forever. She's goes through a lot during the progression of the book, and I watched her character go from a shallow debutante to owner of a ballet company.

I found the story entertaining, it drew me in right from the start and I had a hard time putting it down this afternoon. I tend to avoid love triangles because I always feel bad for the one that doesn't get picked however the author Kea put's a unique twist on the love triangle and didn't mind it at all. I found myself rooting for the cop Morten because he is so in love with Nixie and puts up with so much just because he wants to make her happy. It's just a really sweet love story and I really enjoyed it.

If someone asked you if it was possible to be in love with two people at the same time what would you say?

When I began Pearl Lover I thought I was getting a cute little love story about an Italian ballerina who fell in love with an undesirable Russian and while that is true the ending was more than I bargained for.

Kea Noli, author of Pearl Lover, had me in knots after finishing the book. I spent a good hour or so talking with my husband over the concept of being in love with two people at the same time and the validation of each love and how it would be measured etc. It was a very interesting conversation.

The book itself is well written, has great characters and an interesting storyline. It did at times feel repetitive with all of the struggles their ballet company went through and the high's and lows became monotonous. She lost me a few times at these moments and what would've been a book worth devouring became something I still highly enjoyed, but read over a week or so. Nonetheless, it's hard to pinpoint what to cut in a book and what to keep. On the opposite hand if she cut too much I'd be upset that I didn't have more. It's a very fine line.

My favorite part of this reading journey was the ending. It was what really sealed the deal for me. In my opinion I could never agree to, nor live, in a functioning manner with how this book ended. Nonetheless, it gave me a lot to think about. It also made we wonder if many other people live like this or go about life like this. Overall very intriguing.

I'd recommend this book for anyone interested in a clean romance, who has a love for ballet and enjoys a good ending that makes you think. Not your cheesy happily-ever-after that rarely happens.

I have to say that I thought this story was very beautiful and unique. The main characters are Nixie, Kolya, her boyfriend/lover & Morten whom she is pretty much forced to marry due to an inheritance she will receive from her father.

While the characters seem very grown up, they are young and foolish. Nixie decides she can not wait for her inheritance and so the way around it is to have an “older” guardian, well marriage to Morten fixes that.

However, she refuses to let go of Koyla and goes back and forth between the two men. With the money they start a Russian Ballet that turns into a financial disaster mostly due to Koyla feeling he deserved the best of everything.

While Nixie is the main person in the story I feel much was focused on Koyla, his desires, his other lover. It was more so for me that he was asking the question if is it moral to love two women. Lust may have been in play more for both of them rather than love.

While going broke Nixies mother decides to try and find Nixie and spy on her which causes issues. Nixie and her mother don’t have an ideal mother/daughter relationship and it is very strained.

In the end, love does not always conquer all.

While I found some parts of the beginning of the book confused me and left me wondering if I had missed something, it really does come together. I also saw parts of the story differently I think than what was intended, specifically the relationships and especially Kolya.

I really did enjoy this book and I highly recommend it!
