The Dead Don't Knock

Not sure when it happened, exactly. The first I noticed was when my wife popped out for the evening. I went out, to find her, and I heard them.... out there.... roaming around looking for flesh to feast upon. My wife never did come home that night. My only guess is that they got her. I just hope they ate enough of her to stop her coming back as one of them - she deserves to rest in peace at least. She deserved that much.

A few days, holed-up in my house... that's all.... a few days hiding out. Give them enough time to wander off looking for food. Increase my chances of getting out of here without coming face to face with the Horde.

Just hope they don't find a way into my terraced house, in the meantime. I fear them as much as I fear looters. Funny - the survivors of the infection.... never would have thought they'd be worse but... their unpredictable, greedy nature.... they're worse alright. Hopefully looters won't find a way in here either.

Not whilst I'm still hiding out.

Two days. Need to get my act together.... need to be ready.....

Biography

MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.

Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.

Not fast paced but it was a pretty good mind-fuck. By critiquing this book - I would have to call this more of a satire than anything else. It delves into the exaggeration of the mass media and how people can easily misconstrue facts and twist them into thoughts so far fetched that may possibly lead to or bordering on the insane.

We also learn a lot about Mr. Shaw in this book if you take the time to read the ending notes from the author. If you have read any of his books, you may have picked up that Mr. Shaw writes a bit of himself in each of his characters. Hmmm? What does this tell us about this ultimate 'king' of horror and mind-fuckery? Well my opinion is that he is either fucking brilliant or really fucked up in the head....either way, Mr. Shaw has carved away a piece of my heart which will always belong to him.

I had put off reading this one for longer than I care to admit.
I went through my zombie phase, reading books upon books & getting to know the authors in the indie community...
Zombies are zombies, and after a while - there aren't any new ways to tell your story. I had to put them down for just a little bit.
I love where Matt Shaw went with this story, though!
He touched upon some of the famous U.S.'bath salts' incidents, and other popular zombie "Hows & Whys" that are floating around. He posed a couple very good questions of his own, too.
This isn't just another typical zombie story.
These are Zombies, done the Matt Shaw way!

I think I'm ready to start slowly easing myself back into the community - and that's a good thing!

This is the story of a man stuck in their house during a zombie invasion. His wife has gone - she went to look for survivors and never came back. We are taken on a journey through his innermost thoughts as he prepares to leave as well. Can he find survivors or is he the only one.

This was great. It's not easy to write a zombie story without any actual zombies in it but Matt has achieved it. It was tautly written - and I really got inside the lead characters head. Then blam! There was a fantastic twist in the ending. A brilliant short by a talented writer.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in order for me to review.

After reading World War Z around a year ago and finding it complete rubbish I have avoided Zombie books up until reading this. Once again Matt leaves me wanting more. As is often the case i am disappointed when I reach the end just because his books are such a good read. The witty comments the main character makes throughout the book were very funny, the decisions he takes feel realistic (just don't mention the cat) - and it had a great ending. I do like the "englishness" of his books and the references made. These are not homogenized for an international market.

This was another awesome and quick read from Matt Shaw. As always there was a great twist at the end. I loved that Matt shared a little of himself with us at the end of this book. The only thing I didn't like about this book was Nellie. Poor poor Nellie. :(

Nice quick read. Right to the point which is refreshing. I enjoy survival stories love to put myself in the characters place. Like the mind game Matt Shaw plays in the book. Makes you want to go back and reread it.
Only negative is Nellie. Damn you for that Matt!
Great story highly recommend.

I thought this was a great short story. My favorite of Matt Shaw's so far. I like that this story went away from the usual undead, infected series. I even remember a news report of the bath salts abuse down in Florida. The ending took me by surprise and I thought it was a great change of pace.

Thoroughly enjoyable story. Matt Shaw writes a tale of a man trapped in his home during a zombie apocalypse. He knows he needs to leave, but fear of what awaits him, and lack of survival knowledge, delay his escape. A great peak into the collapsing sanity of our hero.

Another Zombie Story

So, you think anyway. Read carefully, there are cement clues to what may really going on in the life and time of the character. Shaw has yet again created a fine piece of work well worth your time and money. Watch out for that ending, it bites!

Kept me on the edge of my seat...everything got left no housework no tv until I had finished it and was not disappointed. Brilliant.
