I always like the travel stories of Dolf de Vries. This time he really describes the difference between the poor and the rich and how the poor seem to accept their situation. I think they have no choice. During the trip they have been offered meals and place to sleep who are extremely poor and with a smile.
They have passed the highest road in the word too and it is really scary. I have read about this before and seen on television, it must be quite an experience. I was already scared in Austria, mind you.
Difficult to make a summary, not much time to do it, but I feel I have been travelling with Dolf and his wife. The situation about Nepal and the Dalai Lama and he gives good idea of the people they meet ( not Indians ) I think it is a beautiful and rich country, but you have to pay attention to your money
when you need something, but than as the Indians are so nice it's difficult to get angry. Although they met two people, who had to go back home because of this.
Anyway, when you like to travel in your head or before you go to India, read this book!

Fantastic storey out travel through India where you have to get used to the large cultural differences. Twenty years ago I have travelled Delhi en Leh. The latter with an Enfield cycle. So next adventure will go to Rajasthan. And for sure more Dolf is there to read.
