Read a bit like a True Story magazine piece but entertaining and flowed along very readably. Not something you want to apply rigorous consideration to or question too closely, but fun, and short enough not to drag for lack of convincing drama or conflict.
As a believable excuse for being absent for a year or more, it probably doesn't cut it, but inventive.

Quick enjoyable read. Some great characters and an unusual and interesting behavioural norm on the alien planet.
Who would ever have dreamed that making a comfortable couch for oneself could cause so much damage to a once happy alien planet's population.
