What I liked best - the main characters are in their mid 40's. Romance doesn't end in your 30's.

Great.
We met Derek a few books ago when we had Josh’s story (and I. His brothers books) and this continues with Ashley and Derek along with more of what happened in their past.

If you like long series this is for you. You will go through various emotions. The characters are so easy to love. In the end love will surpass everything.

Another Great Story
Continues from the previous book, Derek & Ashley broke up back in college 25 years ago. She ends up married to his best friend Josh, they have twin boys & Derek is their godfather and best friends with both Ashley & Josh even though he's never gotten over her. When they start having problem Ashley finally confides in Derek that she still loved him & was going to divorce Josh but after they end up together one night he leaves town because he thought with him gone they would work out their problems and keep their family together, they still ended up getting divorced. Josh & Derek stayed friends but Derek couldn't stand not telling Josh what happened before he town so he finally opened up to Josh but when Josh confronted Ashley about it one of their boys heard him. When Derek came home for his brother's funeral, him & Ashley decide they still love each other but her sons are so mad at him that she doesn't think it will work out because she can't loose her sons. After Josh talks to them they finally accept that they belong together so Derek moves back home & they get married.

Ashley was a bittersweet character for me to get to know. As she was in the previous novel with Lexi and Josh. She was Josh's ex wife and she cheated on him. I can't say I felt too connected to the novel because Ashley ended up with Derek, the man she originally cheated on Josh with but everyone eventually needs their own happy ending.

Wow! Derek is just another hottie McCall!! Those boys sure have hearts of gold! 25 years of waiting and watching the love of your life love someone else...heart breaking. He grew into quite the man!! Ashley was a coward as a young woman and despite getting her beautiful children out of her marriage she should have spoken up years ago. Glad she grew up too. I can't wait to read the next book!

4.5 stars I really like Josh, so I didn’t think I would like this story, but this series has me so wrapped up in it, that I couldn’t help but grab it and hope. Derek and Ashleys story. Sighs.... Second chance love stories are becoming one of my favorite reads. College sweethearts, breaking up, New love, marriage, kids, divorce, love rekindled you get a little of all of this in Heartless.

This book was very emotional. Derek and Ashley's story was so moving. Then you add Nikki and JT's story on top of it at the beginning it is very heart breaking.
