I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this book is a shining example of what not to do when crafting a story. The idea? Oh, it's just brimming with potential, but who needs a well-crafted plot when you can follow the recipe for writing a mostly spice-lead book following pattern X, am I right?
A sprinkle of “who's your daddy” here, a dash of “be our perfect little slut” there, and let's not forget to toss in all the trendiest kinks of the moment. And the pièce de résistance? Sex scenes so depraved and over-the-top that they're practically comical! Voila! A literary masterpiece that's... well, not. 🙄

Who needs character development or a believable storyline when you can just serve up senseless bullying and call it a day, right? 🤷‍♀️ If you want to craft a bully romance that's dark but also somehow convincing, you've got to put in some effort. Character development? Pff, overrated! Riot, Atlas, and Valentin, our male protagonists, had loads of potential, but why bother bringing out their traumas early on when you can just throw them in randomly after 20 chapters of pointless torment?

The female main character supposedly gets under their skin, but honestly, it's just telling instead of showing. There's no build-up, no facets to their inner struggles, their upbringing, no doubting or remorse. They hate her until they suddenly don't. Because guess what?! Apparently, they just hated her because they couldn't love her properly. Make it make sense, please! Who needs character depth when you can do a sudden 180-degree personality flip, right?

And our dear female lead? Oh, what a delight she is! For 18 chapters, she vowed to break the boys and hurt them, all while masquerading as a self-proclaimed psychopath. But here's the kicker: she's actually a walking contradiction. Her daily routine? “I'll show them,” followed by, “Oh no, my traitorous vagina, I'm too weak to resist them even though they humiliate me.” But please keep in mind, she's “mega badass,” in case you missed the memo.

So, calling her a psycho a dozen times doesn't magically turn her into one. The word “psycho” here has about as much substance as a paper-thin pancake. It's as if the word “psycho” was slapped on every page to remind us just how “edgy” this story was. No, Maureen, our shining beacon of consistency and unwavering resolve, consistently spread her legs for the main male characters, defying all expectations of reading a story of a genuinely badass female protagonist. Because Mauren was about as badass as a fluffy kitten in a tutu.

I absolutely loathe and despise and hate the body betrayal syndrome that some authors for some reason love. On one hand the author is trying to paint a strong badass picture of the fmc but on the other, her actions and leaking vagina end up proving her to be pathetic and a stupid doormat.
I don't know how on Earth Maureen always ends up behaving as a dumb brain dead sex maniac whenever her bullies and tormentors corner her. Riot ,Atlas and Valentine insult her, degrade her, humiliate her , and treat her worse than shit throughout the majority of the book , for no other reason other than her blood and yet the fmc finds redeeming qualities in these pieces of rotten stinky shits...... Like girl have some iota of self respect.
I thought of dropping this book midway but kept going through the torture in hopes that there would be some grovel,some vengeance from Maur, some backbone from her but nope, the fmc used all her backbones to lie and spread her legs for the guys she "absolutely hate and would make them regret their actions"

Honestly at multiple points ,I thought that I was reading a hate porn with a lackluster plot

Nope these types of authors who love dehumanising the fmcs and create pathetic pitiful fmcs are certainly not for me.

each guy in this book is sooo mf unhinged & crazed in their own way omfggg.. even maureen, loved her. the serious chokehold they had me in through this whole book is sooo fucking reallll !!!
but holy shit.. the smutty blood play, knife play, gore & everything, gaveee !!! and i fell in lovee with the dark academia paranormal vibess.

i need all 3 men to sluttt me outtt and that’s on periodd !!!

I loved the premise. I enjoyed the entire poison aphrodisiac aspect, the guys were pretty great, but I could not stand the heroine. She’s supposed to be so badass and I can take care of myself but not once does she save herself. I don’t know what the guys see in her. She does stupid things to get attention and it’s called being psycho.

There’s inconsistencies and plot devices:

* phone wasn’t charged after spending the night at the guys, bc you know they don’t own chargers
* she TOLD the guys she was running away in the morning…yes let’s give a heads up to them so they can mess with your car 🤦‍♀️
* she never thinks to call her bff for help, who has a badass ghost boyfriend
* she can’t figure out that someone’s a ghost when her bff is one
* plus more

Then we’re told there’s a curse, but we get bits and pieces, never a full explanation of what it entails, why the ravens (and where do these ravens come from and why do they have powers?!) are giving Riot power when they know he wants to rule them with it, and how does Riot know what the ravens want, why did they lure Maureen there if they don’t want her there, what happens if Maureen leaves, supposedly no Blackwells can enter Ravens Gate but then suddenly her mother is in her classroom….you get the picture?

I was just confused for so much of the story I kept stopping and coming back. The entire cult isn’t explained well.

So honestly it probably deserves 2 stars but the concept was unique and I loved the guys, the mm scenes were hot. It definitely needs another edit to button up the holes. It ends on a HFN with the author stating there will be another book with these characters.

Dark academia is not my typical genre of choice but I was in a slump and needed to switch it up a bit. This book did not disappoint!!

Maureen enrolls in a new school and uses her mother’s maiden name to enroll even though she has no knowledge of them. She has a run in with Atlas Valentin and Riot who need her to join them as a fourth to break the curse inflicted of Riot and his family.

This is a heavy BULLY theme so keep that in mind!! It was spicy with a level of mystery that had me needing to know what was happening. Even when I had to put the book down to work my mind kept wondering to it. And it’s soooo spicy!

The dark, dirty, why choose, with a strong FMC hit perfectly. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next with the noctornus. I hope in book 2 we learn more about the Blackwell family and just the full history of all the families in general.

I feel like this book was written for me. It absolutely encompasses almost every theme, trope, and setting that I love. I was gripped from the beginning by the characters and setting. Dark and spooky academic campus with dark, mysterious MMCs, and a fiery FMC. I am OBSESSED. It’s giving The Covenant, a movie from 2006, but better.

The MMCs, Riot, Valentin, and Atlas, are all dark, broody, angry, and sexy in their owns ways but joined together they make a sinful af cocktail of scary & psycho deliciousness 🔥😅 They each torment in different ways but share in everything, especially where Maureen is concerned.

Maureen is, in my opinion, the star in this story. She is fiery and doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap even if she is scared. She is a fighter and I love that about her. There isn’t much grace to be had when dealing with the Nocturnus guys but, Maur handles whatever they throw at her no matter what. She walks away with her head held high even when her feet hurt from wearing ridiculously high footwear on uneven, stony ground 🙄😂

AND THE SPICE. M Violet is the queen of edging. They edge the characters and the reader but there is consistent spicy interaction throughout the book but all you want by the end is more, more, MORE.

This book has been a pleasant surprise! When I picked it up, I was expecting it to be a mafia academy or something like that, I wasn't expecting the paranormal elements, and I loved it. I found the plot very interesting and the hate s*x, chef’s kiss. Maybe I would have liked it to end with a brat-style FMC instead of so submissive.

Maureen Gray Blackwell recuerda esa noche de Wickford Place donde se cobró la vida de Chad y lo volvería a hacer. Al entrar a la Academia Tenebrose en Raven´s Gate, se topa con Valentín Erebus, de cabello negro y ojos café y una chica le dice q mejor alejarse de ellos, son peligrosos, pero al voltear la chica no está. Al entrar a un salón vuelve a tropezar con Valentín quien la mira con desprecio y ella le da cara, él huele a rosas, cedro y líquido de embalsamar, si lo sabría al ser amiga de Bailey, este la amenaza con tenerla en la mira de ahora en adelante. con el horario y el mapa del campus en mano, llega al edificio de dormitorios y se consigue de nuevo con la chica, Jessamine, q le advierte q el tío de Valentín es un profesor. Sube a su habitación, una suite, solo reservada para las familias de Ever Grave y como Maureen esta usando el apellido de su madre, Blackwell, cuya familia la repudió al salir embarazada de ella, siente q esta cometiendo un error. Luego entra Libra Thorn, su compañera de cuarto quien no tiene idea de Jessa pero quiere ver la cara de Riot cuando la vea, a pesar de q Maureen no sabe quien es, Libra le dice q por eso tienen un piso para ellos. Cuando Libra le dice q se prepare para irse de fiesta, ella no quiere pero esta la amenaza con hacer de su vida un infierno si no está a la altura de ser su compañera de cuarto, Maureen dice q irá pero como la vuelva a amenazar, la mata.

Riot es el chico q ayudó a Maureen en el baño de Wickford Place y sueña con ella, su amigo Atlas le dice q se olvide de ella por q hay muchas haciendo fila por él, lo ve masturbarse en la bañera y ve su sello recién adquirido, Atlas quiere su turno y se desnuda y traga veneno, es inmune a este por herencia familiar, Riot saca su caja de rituales y agarra el miembro de Atlas, con una daga negra le pregunta si acepta el sello y este lo acepta, escribe sobre él brotando sangre. Valentín entra y cuando termina el ritual, sabe q Riot está pensando en la chica de Wickford Hollow y aunque lo niega, les vuelve a contar lo q pasó esa noche, como la miró y vio q la llevaban al baño, la encontró llena de semen y la ayudó a vestirse, como mató a los 4 universitarios q la profanaron. Valentin y Atlas le dicen q fue riesgoso ir a Wickford Hollow por si se encontraba con un Blackwell, pero su identidad estaba protegida por su pasamontañas. Quieren tener a alguien con q entretenerse, Valentin habla de la novata (Maureen). Ellos son Nocturnus, una antigua orden secreta. Maureen y Libra van a la mansión Nocturnus y se da cuenta q están cultivando cicuta y Libra dice q no entiende como siendo una Blackwell no le hayan hablado de eso, Maureen se arrepiente de ir a la fiesta cuando se encuentra con Riot, Valentin y Atlas, al saber su apellido se ponen salvajes y la botan, ella reconoce a Riot como el q la ayudó esa noche en Wickford Place. Riot tiene una vendetta contra los Blackwell después de q su familia sufriera a manos de ellos. Libra recibe su castigo por su atrevimiento, es azotada desnuda y luego debe elegir entre más azotes o correrse sobre los dedos de su verdugo, consiente lo 2do y luego otro iniciado termina en su cara y pelo, la dejan ir humillada y Riot se embriaga de poder. Maureen conoce a Villette quien le dice q Jessamine es un fantasma y simpatizan, Jessamine murió envenenada como tantas otras por los cuervos, Nocturnus. Van a la biblioteca, Maureen busca información de su familia pero Jessamine aparece y solo le dice q los Graves odian a los Blackwell por horrores q estos cometieron en el pasado y le pide abandonar la sala, ella siente náuseas y cuando por fin va al baño y se calma ve en él espejo a Riot Graves, Valentin Erebus y Atlas Thorne. La acorralan y la llaman ladrona, quieren su violencia y dolor y empiezan a tocarla, llega al clímax y la amenazan, la van a matar lentamente y a torturar, ella se jura q será tan psicopatica como ellos.

Villette y Maureen se consiguen en Swallow Bar a Atlas, a este no le importa la disputa familiar Blackwell – Graves y pincha a Maureen y está lo amenaza con un cuchillo en la garganta asegurando q eso es lo q pasa con los petardos, q explotan. Ella se va pero Libra la hace regresar cuando le confiesa q no tiene verdaderos amigos, también le dice q se enteró de lo ocurrido en el baño y q si la marcaron, ahora les pertenece. Cuando un chico la aborda muy rudo, Valentin se lo quita de encima y ella va a enfrentar a Riot, ambos se desean y se odian y él le confiesa q por ella está en el infierno. Para Riot el poder lo es todo, para Atlas es la atención, pero para Valentin es el juego, sigue a Maureen al salir del bar y la atrapa, hará con ella lo q quiera a cambio de no regar por el campus q es una mentirosa y una put* y ella acepta. Él la ensucia de barro, la azota y le exige no ducharse sino en la mañana y sabrá si lo cumple, toma su teléfono y pone su nro, para cuando ella se acuesta sucia, él le escribe “buena chica”, pero Riot le escribe q la ve al anochecer en la biblioteca y q si no lo hace…le habla de 2 chicos desaparecidos en Halloween y ella se alarma, sabe de Chad y Billy. Yendo a su 1er día de clases, Maureen le confiesa a Villette q no sabe nada de su familia materna y le pide q le cuente, quedan en hablar después de clases pero Villette lamenta q la hayan marcado. Perdida en el campus, llega a Nocturnus y Atlas la invita a pasar y le promete hacerla inmune al veneno, ella acepta para aprender y observarlos.  El quiere hacerla su musa y ella empieza a sentirse mareada por la belladonna con la q él la acaricia, sabe q no era preparada y le da magnesio, le pide q se rinda a ellos y q vaya a Riot en la noche, ella quiere odiarlos pero es igual a ellos. Libra y Villette y cuenta que la disputa entre los Graves y los Blackwell es de siglo cuando los Graves fueron expulsados de Ever Graves, pero no saben más, lo q si saben es q hacia mucho q un aquerrale como el de Riot, Atlas y Valentin no se venía, tienen poderes q vienen de los cuervos, está marcada y no puede irse de allí, ella va a la biblioteca y habla con Riot, este le dice q los cuervos la dejaron entran porq esa noche en Wickford Hollow ambos mataron e hicieron un sacrificio de sangre. Ella piensa huir en la mañana. Ellos manipulan su auto para que no escape y Ríot piensa q la sangre de ella acabará con la maldición. Hacen un nuevo pacto y Atlas adquiere el don de ver a través de los ojos de los cuernos, Maureen lo tendrá no tendrá escapatoria. Con su auto dañado, Maureen camina molesta e interroga  a Jessamine, ella murió envenenada en un ritual accidentalmente a manos de su novio Silas Graves, es una Blackwell y la razón de la disputa y de q Nocturnus existe. 

Maureen roba el auto de Valentin y se va de tragos al pueblo, cuando un hombre se propasa con ella termina muerto y pidiéndole disculpas a Valentin con un oral obligada por Riot mientas este la toca, tiene el periodo y eso no impide q Riot este con ella pero como castigo la dejan regresar caminando sin ropa íntima. Ella llega a la habitación de Valentin y pide q termine lo q empezó, él mientras mas daño quiere hacerle más se excitan ambos. Cuando van a compe vestidos para él solsticio de invierno, por los cuervos, Atlas ve donde está Maureen y la atacan en el vestidor, le dan veneno y está con ella pero Riot promete destrozarla y ella lo reta a q capaz lo rompe ella primero, asi q esa noche harán una reunión en Nocturnus para q sepas quienes son ellos frente a altos miembros, ella a la fuerza regresa con ellos. Al colocarla en el altar, la ofrecen en un ritual, a pesar del miedo tiene un fuerte orgasmo, en él la reclaman y Ríot la besa como si le importara.

Cuando despierta, está con Riot en la cama, ella le cuenta la verdad de quien es (hija del sheriff y de madre infiel, mejor amiga de un antasma, no sabe nada de los Blackwell y mató a Chad), él no quiere odiarla y le dice q mató a los universitarios porq la habían drogado para estar con ella y alardeaban de hacerlo, Riot lucha por quererla antes de saber su apellido. Cuando despierta de nuevo está en su casa con una rosa Negra y la nota “en ausencia de luz, prevalece la ocuridad”.  Shana Gray Blackwell va a ver a su hija para decirle q su abuela la llamó acusándola de usar su apellido en Ever Graves, ella renunció a todo por ella y ahora se ha metido en un problema muy grande, cuando discuten y ella dice arrepentirse de haberla parido, Maureen le contesta y ella la abofetea pero Valentín la amenaza diciéndole q nunca la vuelva a tocar porque ahora pertenece a Nocturnus, su madre le dice q disfrute de su servidumbre porque ya nadie la podrá salvar. Valentín la lleva a su cabaña, su lugar especial y le pide q pasa la noche con él sin compromisos y ella acepta porque ve en él su versión vulnerable y relajada y recuerda el sexo animal q tuvieron esa noche en q robó su carro. Hablan de los sellos alquímicos en su piel, Riot es el conducto q los marca en los rituales otorgándoles poderes y para romper la maldición necesitan q ella sea la 4ta, debe haber equilibrio con las 4 familias, Riot es aire, Atlas tierra, él aire y ella fuego y mientras mas poder tengan, menos controlados estarán por los cuervos. Valentín y ella experimentan juegos de privación sensorial al dejarla amarrada dentro de un ataúd con un vibrador y luego tienen intimidad. Cuando la deja en su edificio vuelve a ser el Valentín psicópata y al subir al ascensor Zeke la aborda y le dice q no es tan importante, vio su ritual en Nocturnus y quiere q se toque delante de él amenazándola con contar q ella lo sedujo, Libra la rescata y le dice q debe confiar en alguien y ella le cuenta absolutamente todo.
Riot llama a una reunión porque sabe q hubo una filtración de información, alguien habla del ritual de Maureen, mata al iniciado q no estuvo presente y pide a los demás q traigan el traidor. Piensa hacer el ritual de reivindicación después del solsticio para marcar a Maureen con su sello. Atlas busca a Maureen y confirma q ha escuchado la filtración, pide q confie en él y la lleva a Nocturnus y deja q la muerda Zeus, su cobra, chupa su veneno y luego está con ella. Al despertar habla con los 3 y dice q fue Zeke, ellos acuerdan darle caza en la fiesta del solsticio. Maureen es rescatada por Riot del bosque y la lleva al límite de Raven’s Gate, le dice q irse hace q sus poderes se debiliten y q casi muere por quedarse en Wickford Hollow esa noche, están juntos y se entregan en alma. De camino al baile, Libra le cuenta q la sangre de Riot está muy ligada a Raven’s Grave y q de irse envejecería muy rápido y moriría, esa es la maldición q azota a los Graves, tienen q consumir mucho poder para mantenerse y desea ir. Ever Graves para recuperar el poder que perdieron y destruir a los Blackwell. Al encontrarse, Riot y Maureen bailen, ella confiesa q desde q lo vio sueña con él y no quiere q la odie, él le dice q la ama. Ella baila con Valentin y este siente q él peligro ha llegado, se la da a Atlas y sale con Riot, ve q los iniciados se han levantado contra ellos, la anarquía. Al verse sola, Jessamine le dice q debe esconderse, Zeke la quiere matar por su poder, debe correr al bosque. Zeke es el hermanastro de Riot y quiere el poder para él, solo ella puede ser el 4to en su aquerrale. Jessamine le dice q vaya al cementerio y estará a salvo. Allí la encuentra Zeke, Jessamine la vendió para recuperar a Silas y encerró a Libra y Villette, él la amarra a un árbol a punto de vi*larla pero los chicos llegan y lo someten, sin pensarlo, Maureen lo mata y decide entregarse a la oscuridad y se acostará en el altar de Nocturnus para ser marcada.

Los chicos le explican q la cicuta aleja a los muertos, por eso se rodean de ella y q Nocturnus se erigió sobre un cementerio, un lugar de poder. Ellos se nutren de él y los sellos sellos en ese poder a ellos. En Ever Grave hay otro pero los Blackwell lo vieron para los Graves cuando Jessamine murió y ella al matar a Zeke reinició el conteo por q igualó el marcador. Esa noche ella se vincula con ellos y le dan su primer sello. Es bienvenida a la familia.

If you loved the movie the Covenant, but wanted it darker, spicier, and why choose...then this book is for you!!

My jaw was open majority of the book. The spice was top notch and I absolutely loved every depraved thing that these guys did!

We meet Maureen in Wickford Hollow Duet. She goes off to a very prestigious school using her mom's maiden name, not knowing the history behind it.

Riot, Atlas and Val run the school essentially. Their families are some of the founding families of that school. They are very powerful men and hot to boot!

Oh my freak’n gosh this book was intense!!! It had me hooked needing to know what was going to happen!! Aahhhh!!! I freak’n love Valentin, Atlas, & Riot!!! They are 🥵🥵🥵
& I freak’n loved Maureen’s character so much!! She is feisty & isn’t easily scared!! She is a badazz!! I loved this book!! Sooo freak’n good!!

If M Violet writes it, I will read it. This is the fourth ARC I have read for her, and like always she doesn’t disappoint.

Now I highly recommend reading her Wickford Hollow Duet, which consists of Good Girl and Little Fox first. You meet our main character in these two books and it helps you better understand her background. Now they are not required but I highly recommend. 😊😊

If you love dark, spicy, paranormal/Wiccan academia that gives you the movie The Covenant vibes, this is your book.

Our main character, Maureen, had a rough ending in Little Fox until she finds out she was accepted to a prestigious school. Her little secret, she used her moms maiden name to get in. Her mom was disowned and she knows nothing about her estranged family.

When she arrives to Tenebrose Academy, Maureen just wants a fresh start. She doesn’t want to be known as the party girl, she wants to lay low and just enjoy her time in this beautifully gothic environment.

Riot, Atlas, and Valentin have other plans for her. They all want to torture her for what her family did to them, but can they stay away from her enough to not fall for her. Will the past come to light and open her eyes? Can Maureen stay away from the boys that want to torture her?

I love Dark Academia, Something about the horrendous next level type of bullying with a side of secret society and murder. what makes this book even better is the paranormal element that the author added into it. making this book an absolute masterpiece for the dark and depraved paranormal girlies like me.

I loved seeing the fmc Maureen become increasingly more and more unhinged with every interaction she has with Riot, Atlas, and Valentin.

Wow wow wow!

I don't even know where to star. Maureen stumbles into a world she never knew existed and upon a darkness unexpectedly that felt like home. Riot, Atlas and Valentin are the rulers of the academy and everyone turns a blind eye on them. Violet constructed a breathtaking world of characters and the plot wax beautiful! I'm also a fan of the spice. Buy this book. Now. And then buy book 2.
