[Siren Classic Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, shape-shifters, public exhibition, light bondage, sex toys, HEA] A Chupacabra sits down next to a giraffe shifter at the UPAC conference and ends up mated. It sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, but it’s a nightmare for Leo, a giraffe shifter. His new mate is rude, socially inept, and claimed Leo against his will. The joke ends up being on Gable, a hybrid shifter the world refers to as the Chupacabra, when he finds himself mated to a giraffe who is head of a lion pride. Gable screwed up. He knows it, and he’s trying to make things right, but every time he opens his mouth he seems to make things worse. Just as it seems the man accused of viciously sucking animals dry and the gentle shifter with the big purple tongue start to get their act together, trouble shows up on their front door. Will they fight it together or keep fighting each other? ** A Siren Erotic Romance

2012 Review:

Yeah. I’ll never understand.
This author and first person? I was immediately on the lookout for the whiny, right?

In this case, well, I have to admit that Leo, our narrator, had every reason to be whiny and pitch the fits he did. Both immediate reason and founded in his back story. And even with that he didn’t really overdo it the way the author’s chars usually do. Okay, as the story progressed he overreacted a few times and did not use the best judgement but again, his mistrust was well-founded and Gable really did behave like a jerk at the very start.

What matters is that by the end this had the feel of a genuine romance with love and all the good, happy stuff. I liked both of these messed up characters and it was sweet to watch them help each other. We do not often get someone with an actual sexual dysfunction like that. Well, not one that is not cured immediately through a single touch by their so-very-hot new lover.

On a different note, I find it very amusing that across this series at least half of these centuries-old creatures have jobs that deal intensely with computers and modern technology. Makes you wonder what they were doing until these things were invented. Which happened really quite recently considering their long life spans. Twenty years is nothing if you’re over three centuries old, after all.

In this particular case, just as I was about to go off on a rant on how the fuck Leo saved that pride of lions through hacking “decades ago”, it was actually explained. Sure, it might have been iffy but history was indeed taken into account and we actually learned what else Leo’d been up to before that.
Score one for this book, I guess. :3

So yeah. I have to wonder if this author has an evil and a good twin as well. Because some of her stuff I like well enough (like this one) while she also spews out stuff that is so abysmal that I cringe even remembering it. The whiny! The terrible whiny and incompetent usage of first person.
This book? Escaped said fate for the most part. Lucky me! <3

This was book 18 in the "Midnight Matings" series. Leo Casey is a giraffe shifter attending the gathering to get it out of the way the. Gable Zohar is a hybrid shifter the world refers to as the Chupacabra he is loud rude and big. After drinking the spiked champagne Gable mates Leo against his wishes. Leo has always thought of himself has asexual he had a past trauma. After having sex Gable invites himself to move in with Leo turns out he is head of a lion pride. This was a pretty good read that I wish was longer. I liked both of these character's they both went through a lot in the past with Gable more so people think that he is a monster his parents locked him up in a mental hospital and now they want to use him as a lab rat because he makes a living be charging people he bites them a they orgasm. Leo became the leader of the pride when he broke into a lab and recued them. When trouble comes there way in the form of another pride Leo as to handle it and in the process one of his pride members finds a mate. I love reading this series. The sex scenes were good. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

A chupacabra shifter and a giraffe shifter. And that's all I've got to say about that.

This installment of the "Midnight Matings" is a really cute story. Mind you, it doesn't start out all roses and sunshine, and it contains enough drama and issues between the mates to fill two books, but the way their love slowly develops, and how they handle themselves made me smile. The idea of a chupacabra shifter is also quite funny, as is a giraffe shifter who is alpha of a pride of lions. Absolutely hilarious! And yet, the explanations for everything are clear and sound simple, so by the end of the book it all sounded quite normal.

Leo, and what a name for a giraffe shifter, has a ton of issues, and when Gable forces him to mate under the influence of the UPAC drink, he is not happy. Since there is no way out for him, he decides to proceed with caution, and gives his new mate a chance. As is usual in these books, they work it all out by having sex. Lots and lots of it.

Gable has a few traumas and dark secrets as well, he just handles them differently. It takes him a while to trust Leo, but once he opens up, they become stronger as a couple. I felt for him once I understood why he was so arrogant and standoffish in he beginning. I liked that I got to know and understand him better as the story progressed.

If you like unusual shifters, if main characters with dark secrets and lots of psychological issues are your thing, and if you like tons of drama and a bit of brattiness in your stories, you will probably like this one.

Gable and Leo. Well, I thought Gable was an asshole of epic proportions at first. Leo had EVERY right to be upset, but I think he got over his issue too soon for my liking. He said it himself he went from anti-sex to a horndog basically overnight. It kind of skeeved me out with how fast the turn around was.

Overall, the conflict came out of nowhere. I would have liked more with Gable's issues instead.

I know I've read this series before because once upon a time I was on binge and read almost everything by these authors. Like everything.

But I also didn't logged it back then and that is bugging me now so I'm adding them based on the one review I did wrote:Fur And Flightless by Joyee Flynn

What a combination!!! A giraffe, Leo, who is the Alpha of a pride of lions and The Chupacabra, Gable. Gable had a terrible life and while he was getting drunk after a confrontation with his parents at the UPAC conference he meets and mates with Leo... against Leo's will. That is definitely going to take some time for Leo to get past.

But with the help of Leo's family/pride he begins to see that Gable is a good guy and worth getting to know better.

This series is one of my go to's for some fun reading with a HEA at the end. Though the last several books have been a bit more grim than the earlier ones.

Recommended, and FYI, I still love the bunny the best :)

Such a fun series! There are currently 20 books in the series, each book is written by either Joyee Flynn, Gabrielle Evans or Stormy Glenn. They could keep writing more as long as they continue creating interesting characters who shift into all kinds of wonderful and different animals/mythical beings and coming up with unique stories full of romance, crazy drama, angst and let's not forget the very hot sex!

You don't have to read them in order, very rarely are other characters mentioned, but each story is very different and engaging and together they make for a fun few weeks of entertainment.

There is a spin-off series by Joyee Flynn with 8 books out so far called "Unmated by Midnight." I have not read those yet but they are on my to-be-read list next.

I am not impressed ! The plotline and it's advertised summaries go with the theme of Leo being a poor put upon guy by this horrible brute named Gable What I have seen is maybe a few instances of Gable being a clueless oaf but also a fun and loving guy andwho is actually trying to be with his partner. Leo is the one who seems like an asshole. Most relationships have both partners at times insensitive to the others wants needs feelings etc.Itdoesn't owner up to Leo being an ass hol. I don't expect a lot from this series. I expect it to be fluff romance writing but you have to have a basic level of buy-in to the story. I have non here. Leo's response to everything Gable does sounds like a whining over exaggerating brat!

2.5 Stars

Warning: This book is in first person.

As far as romances go I think first person is the weakest way to tell the story. But if you can't write any other way I really wish this story would have went with Gable's side. I found Leo to be very irritating.

This had some great potential with Leo, a giraffe shifter the head of a lion pride. But it fell short. Not only was everything very predictable the confrontation at the end was ludicrous.

I've been a Joyee fan from the start but her switching to first person and now several of her story with no real depth it is getting a little disappointing.

I really hated this story at the start. I thought Gable was a jerk and when he started to show Leo his softer side three chapters in I still kind of hated him. In a way I felt the story was extremely rushed and everything was occurring too fast and that Leo was being led by his new found love for sex. I also have to admit that I thought bdsm would be presented in the story because of the things Gable said when he met Leo but I was glad to see there wasn't anything of the sort.

The series had been an entertaining read but recently I've just felt like it's been dragging and I'm hoping it will end soon before starts going south.

While I ended up liking it, it was kind of a drag that Leo is constantly going off temper tantrums while Gable seems to constantly come across as a jerk until he finally proves he really isn't. Also, considering everyone at the gathering was going to be forced into mating, it came across Leo's 'melodrama' of forced mating was turned into way more than it had to be. If you've read the others in this series there are plenty of others claimed without being asked that didn't turn it into a big huge melodrama. Also thought it weird that the small guy transforms into big animal and the big guy's 'animal' is small.. kind of ironic there

Ok, I will admit I laughed at the idea of a Giraffe shifter being the Alpha of a pride of lion shifters and then throw in a Chupacabra, and I had to read. This story didn’t disappoint. I loved the back story behind the Chupacabra, it was fascinating and very well described. I could definitely see him in my head. There was something about Gabe, he won my heart all while being kind of socially awkward. Leo, the giraffe shifter was pretty amazing, after all he’s an herbivore leading a bunch of carnivores. I thoroughly enjoyed Gabe and Leo’s story.

Big disappointment this one.
Well it was just not what i expected from this.
For one the chupacabra guy, at first he's a macho man, afterwards he is a 5 year old boy. Well all his manhood just took a walk somewhere, and it was returning just a bit during sex scenes.
There was no plot whatsoever, or maybe it was, but i don't know it vanished just like that.
And for the lack of conflict, a pack came out of nowhere to attack these people, the only reason was that the alpha became senile.
i hope next books aren't like this.

This story was mix of comedy, drama and enjoyable characters. In general I liked this storyline and didn't mind reading it, too. Here we have many couples, all of them were good. The MC's, Gable and Leo, were childish characters.

I thought this was an ok book. I did not feel the connection between them though. I would have liked to have seen more interaction that was not sex.

This was cute with a giraffe shifter, who also happens to be the alpha of a lion pride that he rescued decades ago from human labs, and a hybrid shifter the world calls the Chupacabra. Ridiculous, actually, since Gable's mom is half coyote and half kangaroo while his dad is a crocodile shifter. It actually makes Gable super cute in his shifted form.

This story didn't hit me as well as others have because I struggled with Leo and his attitude. Yes, he had a right to his feelings, but he constantly was on the defensive before even letting Gable explain. It kind of frustrated me and made me feel bad for Gable.
