The premise was rather interesting, a house claims a couple, with first the husband and then the woman killed on the premises, purely by accident. The woman connects to the kitchen and now haunts it, unable to leave. Somewhere around there are ghosts who apparently can move, but that isn't explained up to where I read. Our kitchenette is capable of entering the minds of people inside the kitchen.
Another young couple buys the house after a few years and starts fucking like bunnies just about everywhere. And alas, from there on things quickly go awry. Not just that there is the typically large amount of modern women-style oral sex being described, to the point of total ikea-style-sex-boredom, with our handy ghost dipping in and out of the minds of both man and woman, and descriptions which read like a 101-sex-manual. No, our ghost also happens to be ultra-repressed and freely states innuendos which have me gnash my teeth. When finally blithely and unsubvertedly thinking along lines of just how bad BDSM and power exchange would be, I've had it.
Too little time, too many books.
I can't really rec this, though I rounded up, because at least the premise was interesting. It allegedly picks up with some mystery later, but unfortunately this lost me earlier.
A friend recommended I read this, so I thought, why not? I read the premise, and must admit thought it sounded a bit on the cheesy side. My mind was changed as soon as I started getting into it. I was pleasantly surprised by the story, and I finished reading it in one sitting.
It was a nice change from the usual, and is written from the POV of a woman who dies and possesses her kitchen. There are ghosts, mystery, and some wonderful overall characters who make this story even more enjoyful. I highly recommend picking it up right away and giving it a chance!
I've become an instant fan, and look forward to reading more of what Mr. Gilmour has to offer.
A possessed kitchen helps to solve half dozen local crime, including her own murder. This one locale who did them uses a first person (ghost/kitchen) to care for and spy on the new tenants of her home while acting as a much better detective than the local detectives. WARNING - the writer goes way over board with the voyeuristic pornography (I mean just how much sex is one couple likely to have in their kitchen), and on the taste by taste culinary details of how to cook anything and every thing - OK it's a kitchen we; we get it.
This work of fiction is a murder-mystery-paranormal-erotic-romance of culinary delight. Did you catch all of that? Let me recap. There is at least one murder mystery to be solved, a lot of titillation with gourmet food and sex, ghosts and social issues. Congratulations Mr. Gilmour on an excellent read with particularly good editing and I recommend this book.
It wasn't until somewhere past the 50% point in this one that I finally quit debating whether or not I would finish it. So many times I considered giving up on it, but for some reason just kept plugging along. The last 25-50% was alright, and in the end I liked the story, but just felt like it drug on for a really long time.
