Just when Larue Donavan, top-notch psychic medium and bookstore owner, thought she'd gotten a vacation from ghostly visitors, her ghoul friends are back. All she wants is to run her bookstore and help a few lost souls cross over into the light, but what she gets is black witchcraft, demons, and Elvis Presley. Oh wait, she likes the Elvis part.
A reality show is in town and wants Larue to join their team. She accepts the job, but gets more than she bargained for when, on the first day, she's thrown into a battle with dark forces. Larue has to deal with the demons lurking between this world and the next and even Elvis can't help her with this fight. This specter may not be out for the client after all. Instead, this demon is all over Larue like a bad rash.
The demon isn't the only one longing for someone, though. Larue's relationship with Callahan Weiss is in jeopardy when his ex-girlfriend arrives in town and decides to introduce herself to Larue via snail mail... not just once, but many times. This girl is definitely stalker material. She'll do anything to get to Callahan's heart.
When it seems as if things couldn't possibly get any worse, Larue, and everyone around her, realizes she isn't acting normal--even her eye color has changed. This demon may be playing tricks. Larue must use every bit of spiritual energy she can muster to save herself. If she doesn't outsmart the forces of evil, she may lose her sanity and possibly her soul.
Larue must banish this evil spirit back to hell with a little help from her ghoul friends... and Elvis.
Rose Pressey Betancourt is a USA Today Bestselling author. She enjoys writing quirky and fun novels with a paranormal twist. The paranormal has always captured her interest. The thought of finding answers to the unexplained fascinates her.
When she's not writing quirky and fun mysteries, she loves eating cupcakes with sprinkles, reading, spending time with family, and listening to oldies from the fifties.
Rose lives in the beautiful commonwealth of Kentucky.
I enjoy the books from Rose Pressey because they always have a light mystery that is just hard enough to keep you guessing without all the heavy baggage. The characters are interesting and fun for the most part even the evil characters have some quirk that makes them a bit amusing. The ghosts who have come through are always a surprise because it is such a nice mix of the mundane and the famous. Just makes you wonder how does the author decides which famous people to include. The small town is still kind of vague but also still very quaint sounding, I know nothing of small-town life.
Just when Larue Donavan, book store owner, and psychic medium extraordinaire thought she had gotten a vacation from ghosts, her ghoul friends make another appearance in her life. All she wants to do is run her bookstore and help a few lost souls cross over. What she has been getting instead is black magic is thrown at her from witches, demons being sent her way, and Elvis Presley. Have to admit that she does actually like the Elvis part.
Larue would also like to spend some time with her boyfriend Callahan but there always seems to be something keeping them apart. Ex-girlfriends and TV shows are just the latest things to get in the way of the perfect life.
Always a fun read and way to pass the day. Pleasant for anyone.
Another great book by Rose Pressey. It is about Larue Donavan, who sees ghosts and owns a bookstore. The ghosts she sees has varied with each book. The last one, she saw May West and Abe Lincoln. The ghosts latch onto her and she tries to find ways to help them to go into the light. This time there are three ghosts and one very, very famous one who have entered her life. They always seem to cause her grief. Her best friend, Mindy freaks out her all of the time because of the ghosts, but who could blame after what happened to her in the last book. Larue has a very hot new boyfriend, Callahan Weiss. He tries to look past her strange ghostly friends and her ghost hunting. Things just from bad to worse for Larue when Callahan's old girlfriend show up in town. Larue takes a job as a psychic medium for a TV show. As usual things do not go well for her and her friends. A demon is causing her problems and no one can help her. She has to find a way to keep Callahan and Mindy safe , help the ghosts find the light and battle the demon. I really enjoyed this new book from Rose Pressey. It has the trademark humor that all of her books have. Her female heroines never take themselves too seriously and just try and take life in stride. The action is always fun. The romance is sweet and her friend is always at her side to help her through things, even when her friend is scared.
I highly recommend this book and all of the others ones written by Mrs. Pressey. You will have a good time and come to love the characters in each of her books.
Book Title: The Ghoul Next Door Book Author: Rose Pressey Source: K.U. Rating: 5 stars
Okay, so in place of Abe and Mae West, we get Elvis. It was hilarious reading the part where Larue sees Elvis for the first time. I was giggling!
Though with Elvis around, we also get a case where a TV crew is involved. That’s not all, it suddenly got dark…the story. Things are a little different in this one, we get bad spirits, case of an ex-girlfriend, and exorcism. This story is more action packed and more interesting… mainly due to so many things going on. ^_^
Good luck to Larue with everything!
This is a darker reading for anyone who likes to read about romance, ghosts, and mediums. I highly recommend. A good continuation to book 2 and it starts off right where book 2 ended. ^_^
I really wanted to like this series. I really and truly did. I just can't. This is the third book and it is the same story as the second, which was the same as the first. It's like she has one outline and writes every story using the same outline. By the third book, it is predictable and not enjoyable. Just read the first one and be done with the ridiculousness.
I enjoyed this third book in the series. It was a little darker than the first two, but covered lots of ground. If course I enjoyed the famous ghost in this one the best (but who wouldn't?). This is a terrific series and I hope you will give it a chance!
Very amusing story of regular woman who owned a bookstore & talks to ghosts who show up at regular intervals. Complications ensue. A nice light read. I would recommend this book.
I absolutely love Rose's books. Great reads. Very entertaining! I think this series is awesome! I always red books in the Romance section but now I am so in love with these stories! I will read all her books. Thank you for entertaining me!!!
I'll never forget the day I read my first Rose Pressey novel. I was dealing with a big bought of depression and I ended up reading three in a row, one of which was the first Larue Donavan book. I was hooked and hunted her down on Twitter and told her so. She responded with a thank you, tickling me pink rose!.
Today was another one of my down days so I picked up a Rose book and read till I finished, which is sad because now I'm out of Rose books to read! (I've been hoarding this and two others and having a pretty rough few weeks I ended up finishing all of them!)
"The Ghoul Next Door" picks up where we last left Larue, dealing with the aftermath of black magic and allowing the herself to have someone she could call her own, Callahan. The sexy coffee store owner is there making her happy but a darker presence left over from the last book just wont go away. To top it off she's recruited into being part if a show called "Demon Hunters" and despite her past decides to accept. With Abe Lincoln and the rest of her ghosts gone, we also get to meet the new crew, which all but one are questionable characters to say the least!
Will her trust or distrust be enough to get her through? Will Callahan's past end up catching up with him? Will she finally accept her role as Coven Leader? Wait, there is more, much more...but again Larue must first accept and have faith in herself and with a little help with blueberry donuts, her best friend Mindy and Elvis she may be able to save the day and herself!
Truly the best of the series so far! If you haven't read a Rose Pressey book I suggest any of the series especially if you like your cozy with a bit of spunk, a touch of hope and a whole lot of chocolate. cherry lattes to wash down the donuts...I'll forgive her the diet coke!
I might be done with this series. Every book seems to cover the same territory for Larue and Callahan. It just feels like the books are on repeat. Larue is also rather immature of her age, she often acts more like a New Adult type character.
I really wanted to love this series, had high hopes after the first book. Unfortunately, every plot seems to be a rehash of past events. Seriously, when is Larue going to puck up on a spell causing her friends to treat her badly. It just gets old.
There is the added element of a ghost hunting tv show she does. It feels like another series I read with the same premise. Frankly, the other one does it better.
There are lots of things to like in the series and some interesting angles. I just can not take the slow pace. This is the third book and there are plenty of things left unresolved.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Elizabeth Klett, who does a wonderful job. I enjoy her voices and the energy she puts into the read. Not sure about her Elvis, a little weak, but better than many I have heard. Her pace helps move things along when the story gets stale. It might be time to investigate other series she reads.
I am sure there are plenty of folks who will love this book, for me it was a bust. I was hoping for more romance at this point.

This is the third book in the Larue Donavan ghost hunter series. If you have read the other books and ate looking for something in the same vein, you may be surprised. The Ghoul Next Door is a much darker book, with more disturbing paranormal themes than books 1 and 2.
Asked to participate in a local ghost hunting TV show, Larue finds herself not only helping lost ghosts find 'the light', but also fighting a demon that had attached itself to her. Only Larue's inner strength stops her from being completely taken over. She must find out who had brought the dark forces to the town of Magnolia and break the bonds, before she is consumed by the demon.
Add to the mix her new boyfriends jealous ex girlfriend, the local witches covens request for her to become their new leader, a new botch in town, and the spirit of Evis Presley, and you have a typically fun Rose Pressey book.
My only problem with this book (aside from the fact I read it at night when I was alone in the house) was the absence of a resolution from the unfinished sorry of book 2, that is, the mysterious reappearance of Larue's father, who skipped out when she was born. He made an appearance briefly in book 2, apparently wanting to get to know her, then nothing is mentioned of him again.
Aside from this glaring hole, I really did enjoy this book. Although when book 4 comes out, I won't be reading it when alone at night...
I really do love Larue and I love Callahan! However, I just didn't love this book as much as the first two. I liked it, just didn't love it.
There were a few parts where I just had an overwhelming feeling of deja vu. I just felt like it was the same story... again.
Then there were parts that I just couldn't wrap my head around. At one point Larue thinks about how she could really use her own set of binoculars. Uhhmmmm.... You bought a pair for yourself in book two, don't you remember? Then Larue in one chapter is saying that she and Callahan haven't really been able to spend much time together and that they don't really know each other very well yet... but in the next chapter we find he has given her keys to his shop?! That is very trusting... And why has she started saying "y'all" all of a sudden?
I read these three books all in a row which is maybe why I have picked up on things that I may not have if there was distance between them. This should really not be an excuse for lazy writing though. An author should know their story and what has been written before.
I know it may look like I didn't like this book but really I did and I have suggested them to my friends. I just didn't find myself loving it like the others which was a bit of a shame. I hope the author can surprise me in the next instalment.
Larue and Callahan have a fabulous chemistry, but some people just don’t want them to be together. Then there is the coven, ghost busting, her book store and of course a demon. Can Larue be torn in any more directions? Perhaps, only the story teller knows and there are tons of red herrings, but at the actual climax is really very enlightening.
I truly enjoy the ghouls that are following her around. In this book she has celebrity ghost of Elvis, whom is related to her boyfriend Callahan. The other two ghosts are so annoying, but Larue has such strong patience that she can handle them. Larue is learning whom to ask for help and whom not to ask. That is such a hard lesson for all of us to learn. The greatest thing about Larue is her positive attitude. I find her resilience amazing. The only thing that puzzles me is her family’s lack of attendance in her life.
The sleepy little town of Magnolia is quite the supernatural mega center. Larue has yet to realize everything that is going on and around Magnolia. I think that she is known by all supernatural beings and they are introducing themselves to her, whether she wants to meet them or not.
Definitely a good read, I will be recommending it to my friends.
What do you do when you can see, hear, and speak to ghosts? You try your best to help them move into the light. What happens when the ghost you can see and hear just happens to be Elvis Presley? You scream like a fan at one of his concerts and ask him to sing for you! Larue Donavan finds herself caught up with not only Elvis but two evil ghosts and a demon that wants to ruin her. She also has a crazy woman trying to steal a necklace from her so that she can take over and as if that were not enough her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend starts sending her threatening letters. Now, Larue finds herself involved in a reality TV show while trying to keep her book store going, keeping her boyfriend from going back to his ex, and making sure she is not completely taken over by a demon. #3 in the Larue Donavan series, The Ghoul Next Door, is another out of the ball park book from the most awesome author, Rose Pressey. If you have not checked her out then you need to. You will not be able to stop once you start! She is addictive!

I don’t really give a rat-fuck that there are some who think I ‘owe’ an explanation for my opinion. Nope, nada, and not sorry about it.
Sometimes I may add notes to explain what my opinions are based on, and sometimes I don’t. I do this for me, on my books, in my library and I don’t ‘owe’ any special snowflakes a thing. Fuck off if you don’t like it and stop reading my shit.
Particularly given the ‘modifications’ to reader’s personal content going on (and outright censorship), unless particularly motivated I will not comment in detail.
It would help if GR was forthcoming in the new ‘appropriate’ and would make a site-wide announcement delineating the new focus from a reader-centric site to one that is now for authors and selling.
"Elvis, King of Rock; Rose Pressey, Queen of quirky small town paranormal"
A review of The Ghoul Next Door by Rose Pressey
Do you love quirky, small town characters? Or does the paranormal fascinate you? Ghost stories and psychics? How about the rocking excitement that surrounds Elvis? If you answered yes to those questions then this is for you! You have the girl - adorable with her own interesting insecurities. The hot guy with a charming way about him. The off-beat, loyal friend and a guest appearance from the ghost of Elvis! Add unexpected evil to this mix. Although this is the third book in the series, Rose Pressey has written it in a way that allows readers to seamlessly slip into the series at this point. That's it from me - no spoilers allowed - interested? Well, go and read it - you won't be disappointed.

I liked this book because it was darker than the others in the series, and it was disturbing to me that evil ghosts were following Larue. I think I might like this series better than Rylie Cruz now, because while paranormal it is still slightly believable because it deals with ghosts and witchcraft rather than vampires, werewolves, more "out there" paranormal. I wish that I had been able to read this series and Rylie Cruz first as my introduction to the author, because I feel that I would have had a more positive reaction to the other books as a result.
This is my favorite series from Rose and I couldn't be happier that they just keep getting better as they go.This 3rd book in the Donovan Larue series made me laugh and smile with all the choas and craziness that surround Larue Donovan a bookshop owner/ghost hunter. I also love that they take place is Kentucky bc like Rose I love there as well, The characters are cute quirky and fun to read about and the ghosts range from sweet and friendly to downright mean and evil. Throw a little witchcraft in there and you can't not love this book.
I loved it! I enjoyed this third book so much. I loved that Larue had ELVIS PRESLEY to help her out and sing to her, but what I loved the most was that Mindy was right by Larue through it all. You must read this third book. I just wished that there was more Callahan.
Rose you always deliver!!!!! And you keep us your fans wanting more. I must say that I was a little worried about the demons because it just freaks me out, but I really enjoyed the storyline.
This is the 3rd in the series of the "Larue Donavon" stories. I think this series is very cute! I cannot believe all the trouble that comes to Larue and her friend Mindy. Not to mention all the ghosts and demons she has to worry about and get rid of; and on top of that she has a sexy boyfriend named Callahan she is also trying to hang on to!
Looking forward to reading more in this series by Rose Pressey.
One of the best in the series so far. Larue had to deal with bad ghost, a jealous ex, wicked witch, demon trying to possess her and Elvis. Wow! We had a lot going on but is flowed really well. Can't wait for the next book.
