Remedy Maker

Rate this book
Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.

He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.

Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.

Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.

When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.

Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?

Here's the thing... when I first started this book, I thought it was going to be boring. It started off real slow and I contemplated putting it down. But I kept reading and I'm so freaking glad I did!! It just kept getting better and better the more I read. I really enjoyed this story and can confidently recommend it to any and everyone.

Rhycious was a centaur, a medicine man, and a war vet suffering from PTSD. He was struggling and just wanted to be left alone. Too bad his kingdom needed him. Oh and there was a damsel in distress who's very life required his tender touch. The fact that Patience was a wood nymph, the very creature his kind had battled for years, the same battle that caused his illness... this poor man.

I actually loved the fact that their connection was instantaneous. It was instalove and yet Rhy was determined to fight it. He felt he was too damaged for love and she felt that her time was too short to let him in. But neither of them could fight the inevitable and it was magical.

Amidst espionage and intrigue, suspense and mystery, love blossomed and I enjoyed every minute of it (after the slow bit in the beginning). The world building and storytelling were on point.

To be completely honest, this had the makings of a 5-star read. Unfortunately, I felt that too much was left unsaid and I'm left wondering if I'll ever get those answers. Was the poisoner ever found? How can people still eat at the palace if they haven't been found? Why was Pennelope portrayed as a sweet thing when she obviously wasn't? Will Samuel ever get his own love?

I have other questions but I'm waiting to see if they'll be answered in the next book, which is about Aleksander. He sounds like a delicious bit of myth!

Insta Lust Between a Centaur Shifter and a Wood Nymph

DNF - I paid for this one, but I'm not sure what I was thinking back in 2016... I guess a Centaur Shifter and a Wood Nymph is no worse then the Alien Stories I love to read, but I got to page 64 and marked it as read in my Kindle... I guess my reading taste has changed.

Rhycious lives in the Boronda forest and he is the Royal Remedy Maker known for his healing skills. Unfortunately, Rhycious is also known for suffering from PSTD. A battle between Centaurs and Nymphs was fought for two centuries and one hundred thirty years ago, the Centaur Queen, Savilla, finally was able to institute a treaty. Of course, the treaty did not mean that the prejudices between the two species stopped existing. Fighting for centuries and trying to heal the wounded has left Rhycious a broken man, living like a hermit and having constant flashbacks of the war. The only time he is around people is when he is healing them.

When Rhy's Amish friend, Samuel visits him carrying an unconscious woman, Rhy's life is forever changed. The woman is his enemy, a Wood Nymph, but as a healer he cannot turn her away. Of course, Rhy's identity cannot be hidden, by day he is a man, but at night he is a centaur. When his patient awakes he finds himself totally attracted to her and his hatred for her species suddenly isn't as strong as it was. Her name is Patience, and she is dying.

Patience is a mediator and a counselor, and she is on a mission to find her missing sister, Serenity, who has disappeared without a trace. She finds herself trusting Rhy and is just as attracted to him as he is to her. Two people who have been enemies for centuries suddenly find themselves wanting to be together. This is a romance that is forbidden, neither species will accept the other so how can they hope to have a life together? Then Rhy is called to treat the Queen who is suffering from stomach pain. The pain is being caused by the poison someone put into her tea. Rhy cures her and while he is at her bedside, she recruits him to find the traitors who are looking to overthrow her and cause her death.

Rhy is now on a journey to find the insurgents causing political unrest, a job he knows he is not suited to. Promising to help Patience find her sister, and with the help of his friend, Alek who is the Head Palace Guard, they set out to find the traitors and at the same time, Serenity.

There are many twists and turns in this story, Rhy and Patience are finding themselves getting closer and closer each fearing the future. There are traitors within the palace, but who are they and can they be caught before the Queen is killed and a new ruler takes charge. What repercussions will there be if the present political heads are destroyed? Can a Remedy Maker, a Wood Nymph and a Palace Guard bring down the insurgents?

This book has romance, sex, betrayal and a disturbing rape scene. I found the story interesting and the characters wonderful, especially Patience with her made up words and her spunky personality.

I instantly fell in love with the characters and story line of this book, Rhy especially (hot, hot and HOT!) I also loved the concept it carried, the different races intermingling for the first time known in history and them falling in love without a second thought of the background of the evil prejudice that has clouded many’s vision for far too long. I found myself laughing, crying and holding my breath in suspense many times over throughout reading. There’s a ton of humor, action, adventure, super sexy sex and fun to be had in this wonderfully vivid work of Sheri Fredricks'. Any paranormal lover that wants to enjoy something completely original will get great joy reading Remedy Maker :)

Rhy is a man during the day and a Centaur through the night. He’s also a remedy maker, a very well known and well respected one, that’s super hot (oh, did I mention that already?) and has a super deep problem within himself that even his remedies cannot cure. He lives alone and loves his solidarity. He enjoys helping people, but does not want them to invade his personal space. PTSD has made him this way, it’s how he best lives with it. But that all changes when his dear friend Samuel brings an injured Wood Nymph to his humble abode; she invades much more than his living space and he’s not quite sure how to deal with it.

Patience is one kind, caring, beautiful and very positive thinking Wood Nymph whose way of talking had me laughing out loud multiple times. But her use of words allows us to see how and why she’s perfect for the job she does which is a mediator for the Nymph’s and she’s very good at it! Injured while searching for her missing sister, she awakens and finds herself in a strange place feeling a bit worse for wear. Meeting the well known remedy maker brings forth feelings she’s never before experienced and is unsure how to deal with them. But our forever loyal and reliable fate runs its course and fixes that issue with incredible smoothness ;)

I loved experiencing the growth of both the main characters, growth of love, strength and character. Together they alone accomplished a very difficult task that none other could accomplish for years and they also pulled the wool from many eyes of those who had a very strong prejudice and/or just a misguided mind. If I was to be asked my favorite paranormal couple of this year is so far it would hands down be Patience and Rhy. They are two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together and each gives the other balance, contentment and happiness they have never known.

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!

I must say that I am sad REMEDY MAKER by SHERI FREDRICKS ended and I had to move on to another book. There was nothing left unanswered. The story was finished beautifully. I just didn't want it to end. I loved the characters so much that I was really sad to say goodbye to them. I have never read about Centaurs or Wood Nymphs before and I was so intrigued with them and their quirkiness and at times outright volatile emotions. What a gift Ms. Fredricks has for storytelling.

I have wanted to read REMEDY MAKER since I first heard about it. What happened when I finally had some personal time to read it? I was not disappointed in the least. It was such an amazing page turner, I found that my finger would hit the screen to turn the page way before it should have. I can't tell you how many times I had to reverse a page on my Kindle because my very excited finger couldn't keep still long enough for me to actually finish reading the page I was on because I just couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

I found the character of Rycious, the Remedy Maker, magical in the way Ms. Fredricks wrote him. He's gorgeous, man by day, centaur by night, the pillar of strength and yet so fragile. He broke my heart. Then you have Patience, the very ill wood nymph with a beautiful, loving spirit and the vocabulary of Snoop Dogg. I LOVED IT!

Another very intriguing storyline of the book that I thought was brilliant is that it's written in present day. These mythological beings live among unknowing humans and must keep their identities hidden from the human hunters. This is just another fantastic storyline in a book that is jam packed with amazing storylines. Ms. Fredricks has the ability to weave multiple intricate and detailed storylines together flawlessly and I am literally on pins and needles waiting to read whatever else she writes.

My advice to anyone that enjoys fantasy, romance, mythological creatures and some really great sex, is to pick this book up immediately! This book was filled with fresh and new things for me and I really loved reading it.

Paranormal Lovers beware!! I am about to add an enticingly new favorite hero to our list of shifters, weres, and vamps And this hottie comes with four legs and extra thrusting power...lol! Rhy is a loner, hiding from the world in his self-imposed prison in the middle of the forest. He seperated himself from the others to hide the onset of a terrible disease that started plaguing him after the great wars. He was a healer at heart, greatly enjoyed his work, and added daily to his knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants. He led a quiet life with only his crushing memories for companionship. At least until the day an injured woman was brought to him. And after that, his world was literally turned upside down.

Patience was born after the great war so incurred no baggage or hate because of it. She was young and carefree and planned to live her days happy. What she did know was that her days were numbered. As a wood nympth, her health and lifespan was connected to that of her tree. So they had longevity, but were not immortal. But Patience was sick. Her health began to decline over the last few years, but she was determined to go out with a bang. That is until a group of hunters caught up with her and knocked her out. Imagine her surprise when she awakens in the house of a Centaur! And an incredibly hot one at that!!

The chemistry between the two is almost immediate, even though they are from different species. But there is a plot brewing to kill the queen and overthrow the peace agreement. I really enjoyed Rhys character. For being alive for so long, his condition was believable, as was the way he choose to live. After being surrounded by so much death, what better way to cleanse the soul than by healing others? Patience was the comedy break in the seriousness of the goings-on. She had a way of speaking that puzzled everyone and was funny. It actually is nice to read about a NEW type of paranormal entity. I can't wait to see where this story goes because the ending leaves you with so many things unfinished! There has to be a sequel! This was an excellent read and I highly recommend it!!

Remedy Maker: A healing balm for a needy reader.

Fantasy romance is not a sub-genre I’ve often read. Because of this, I chose an award winning novelist’s tale to kick back and relax. I was soon sitting upright, not so relaxed. Sexy, strong centaurs and wood nymphs live within the forests of contemporary times.

Rhycious is a royal remedy maker (a healer for the crown) whose mind continues to struggle with a past war when the centaurs and nymphs were enemies. Rhy has existed for a couple hundred years plus. His hatred for the nymphs is carved in stone and memory, but when a human friend drops an unconscious nymph on his doorstep, his shaman side can’t refuse her.

Patience is a young wood nymph with an eclectic way of speaking that throws her centaur physician for a loop. The huge, handsome centaur by night and man by day throws her heart into turmoil. Although the war is over, the two races do not mix well. Yet, the gruff, alluring remedy maker cannot be ignored, and Patience cannot forget his touch.

Juggling the Centaur queen’s orders to investigate an uprising to unhinge the peace the mystical races enjoy, Rhy also helps Patience find her sister. I love a book that teaches me something, but even more gratifying is the sensual, thigh-quaking love scenes. You won’t find symmetrical phrases you’ve seen time and time again in this novel. There’s only so many ways to write a love scene, but Ms. Fredricks has broken the paradigm.

There’s intrigue, suspense, action, but there are also two things rarely found that you will see in Sheri Fredricks writing: A voice that is poetic without being purple and a complex plot on par with Lord of the Rings. This is exceptional story telling from an intelligent writer who puts thought and purpose into every scene. You won’t forget her literary voice once you’ve read it.

Love, hope and faith

Where to start...Ah, at the beginning. Months back I had the great privilege to read the rough draft of Remedy Maker. I was blown away--I knew a winner when I read one. And Remedy Maker was just that. A winner.

Now months later, Remedy Maker is published and I read it again. W.O.W! (Wonderful, Out-of-the-ordinary Writing)
Sheri Fredricks has tapped into something new in the romance genre. The rich characters and detailed world she has created is oh so refreshingly fresh. I gobbled this book up and didn't want it to end. Well, I wanted it to end because I wanted Patience and Rhycious to have their happily ever after.

Rhycious is the perfect hero--the right combo of sexy, tortured, and alpha. He has a ton of demons to overcome and the only one who can help him is the heroine Patience who's a Wood Nymph. Centaurs and Wood Nymphs are enemies, but love doesn't care. Fate throws these two together and the sparks ignite.

Remedy Maker is one book you should add to your collection. You won't be disappointed. This book is a five star read.

I was instantly pulled into this unique world of mythical creatures living in a contemporary world, yet remaining mainly hidden from humans. Rhycious is a Centaur who was a soldier in the Great War with the Wood Nymphs, but is now the royal Remedy Maker with PTSD. The Centaurs in this world spend part of the time in human form and part of the time as part human/ part horse. Patience is a Wood Nymph and her slang is really odd, which is funny because Rhy has no idea what she is saying half the time, but it also made her a bit hard to follow. This is an interesting take on mythological creatures. The world was so interesting and there are so many great characters that I am happy this is the beginning of a series.

I have always been a lover of mythology, so was already excited when I picked up Ms. Fredricks's Remedy Maker. However, the story still managed to surprise and delight me. Having a centaur as the hero is simply inspired, and I love Patience the wood nymph heroine. This is a tale, not only of unexpected love, but of race relations, palace intrigue and PTSD and the horrors of war. The author wove a seamless tale taking me back into a fictional time that was haunting and so rewarding to follow through to the end. I was rooting for Patience and Rhycious, and will surely look forward to Ms. Fredrick's other books. Brava!

Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks is a contemporary fantasy/paranormal romance that I took on a lark. It turned out to be a delicious treat with some fairly serious underlying themes in the middle of its mythological creatures' Romeo and Juliet love story and backroom political machinations.

Rhycious doesn't start this story in a frame of mind to be anyone's hero. Or anyone's much of anything. All he wants is to be left alone. This centaur is the Royal Remedy Maker for Queen Savella of the Centaurs, but he's used the excuse of needing to gather herbal remedies to live in a remote cabin as far from the center of court life as possible.

Rhycious suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as result of his service in the two-century-long Centaur-Wood Nymph war. One of the problems with being a healer is that Rhy knows exactly what his problem is. He just doesn't know how to stop the flashbacks. Living alone just means that no one else suffers when he has one.

The war has been over for one hundred and thirty years, and they're getting worse, not better. Maybe living alone isn't the cure Rhy thinks it is.

His nearest neighbor is Samuel, a young Amish farmer. Rhy has been friends with Sam's family for centuries. Sam knows about mythologicals, and he knows what Rhy is. Most humans have only seen Rhy by day, in his human form, but Sam has seen his true form, his Centaur form, between sunset and sunrise.

Sam also knows that Rhy is a healer, so when his buggy nearly runs over a young woman in the woods, Sam brings her to Rhy. Sam just thinks the woman is English, meaning not Amish, and Rhy is the nearest healer.

She's way more than not Amish, she not human. She's a Wood Nymph. The first one to ever enter Rhy's house.

The nymph's name is Patience. A quality that Rhy is sorely lacking thanks to his PTSD. But a quality he absolutely must find in order to treat the female now in his care.

Meanwhile there is also a second female in Rhycious' care. He is the royal physician, and someone manages to poison the Queen. In the investigation, a plot to overthrow Savilla, and the peace and prosperity of her reign, is uncovered.

There's corruption in the court. Some centaurs would prefer they go back to war. Savilla, Rhy, and his friend Alek want the peace to continue. And Patience, she was born after the war ended. She believes in the dream of peace, the way it was before the war started all those centuries ago. She's an ally.

But the more she and Rhy work together, the stronger their attraction for each other, in spite of the difference in their races. Peace seems barely possible between Centaur and Wood Nymph; can they have a long-term future?

Escape Rating B+: I was surprised at just how much I liked this book. The world of the Mythic Boronda Forest is well thought out, and everything hangs together very well. It was neat the way that the Centaurs switched from human appearance to Centaur form, that was nicely done.

And the whole thing with the mythicals bordering Amish country in Pennsylvania was fun. I realize that if this had been written a bit later, Rhy would probably have gotten his t-shirts from someplace other than Penn State, but maybe not. Still, I like the idea that the world is bigger and more eerie than what we think we know. That's the fun of fantasy. And there would be asshat hunters trying to pull the crap that happens in one of the sideplots of the story. Unfortunately some of human nature sucks.

The court politics about the war, and folks wanting to go back to the "good old days" of the war, and the "good old days" when they were on top, sounded all too possible. As did the undercover operations. Politics is often a dirty business. So is the environmental pollution that affected the wood nymphs.

This just missed being an A rated book because there were some points in the middle where I felt like the story could have been tightened up a bit. I enjoyed it a lot, but there may have been one too many subplot threads. YMMV

I can't wait for book 2. The author's website lists it as Trolly Yours. Soon please!

My review:
Wow!!! I'm still reeling after finishing Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks. The world building is excellent and the characters are well suited to live there. The characters are wonderfully written with real life problems. The story is fast paced and drew me in right from page 1. Ms. Fredricks has made sure to include a lot of detail that only adds to the allure of the story. A lot of emotions, depth and dimension shape all of the characters into people. There were times I almost forgot I was reading about creatures that don't actually exist.

Rhycious believes he's too damaged to be happy with a family. The long war with the Wood Nymphs has taken it's toll. Rhy is also a Remedy Maker and is very good at what he does. When his friend Samuel, brings him an unconscious woman, Rhy is stumped as to what's causing it. When he examines her and finds out she's a Wood Nymph, he's immediately angry, and his PTSD kicks in.
Rhycious is super yummy, sexy, smart and an excellent remedy maker. I really liked him, he also has some wit with his dealings with other characters of the book. One of my all time favorite mythological beings is a Centaur. I've always just liked the idea of them.

Patience is searching for her missing sister, Serenity. Patience is cute as a button, dresses snappily, and has a special way of talking that confuses the heck out of Rhy. She knows she's ill, unfortunately just not what is causing it, so she's never let herself believe she has a future with a family. Patience's favorite name for Rhy is Stud Muffin and I laughed every time I read it. She just has a bubbly personality.

Ms. Fredricks infuses a lot of adventure, danger, plot twists and turns and a few surprises that are just delicious. There is also a plot to get Queen Savella, ruler of the Centaurs off the throne which only adds to the complexity of the story line.
I totally loved this book and recommend it to anyone who likes adventure, romance, lots of characters, surprises, and a little mystery in their books. You'll love it!!

I awaited this book's release for a while so I was glad when I finally had the chance to sit down and read it. I've got to give credit where credit is due. Ms. Fredricks excelled at world building when she created the mythological Boronda Forest full of assorted creatures of myth and fantasy.

Rhy is one of those tortured, loyal heroes who has a duty to carry out, but he also has his heart in the right place. Patience was a entertaining heroine, in my opinion. Her quirky vocabulary tickled me since I have issues with inventing my own words as well. There was no shortage of witty dialogue and great sexual tension when this pair were together, trying to sort out the problems in the forest and political alliances among the mythological factions.

It was a pleasure to read how Patience's unbiased, understanding nature helped Rhy through his PSTD and his own past prejudices. Their blossoming love was sweet to read, and Rhy is a hero you'll fall in love with. He's protective of his little wood nymph, and I absolutely loved that. There is no shortage of "sexiness" to the book as well.

The old adage "don't judge a book by it's cover" is a good example of how I feel about this book. Not the cover literally but the characters underneath, they are rich and funny and full of everything you would expect and more of mythical creatures. Like any person you just meet it takes time to get to know them and it took me a little longer than usual to really get a feel for who they were. Once found out who these characters were and immersed myself in their world I was excited with what I found.

Rhycious, is a Centaur remedy maker or healer which is somewhat ironic since he himself has a horrible case of PTSD.

Patience, is a Wood Nymph who is looking for her sister she has not heard from for days and is struggling with an illness that may cost her her life.

Thrust together by chance they form a bond that neither expected but was exactly what the other was searching for. Trying to unite creatures that have been fighting one another for centuries is not an easy task. Are Rhycious and Patience up to the challenge, what will become of this forbidden affair and will a cure be found?

I really enjoyed this book. It was a really interesting read with loads of twists and turns. I was leery at first because I do not always love fantasy. This book really surprised me by being a very entertaining read.

Patience is a really quirky character but that is one of the things I like best about her. She has her own slang and it is rather charming most of the time. At other times I wanted a translate button.

Rhy is a great guy and I was really rooting for these two mythical kids to work out! I loved the spin on Centaurs and their shifted form. He really is a sweet guy and ever so deliciously hot!!

There was loads of story here and it was very well paced. I really enjoyed following these two on their journey. They had many trials to over come and meet so many wonderful folks along the way. I really hope we get stories for their friends, I smell a series here!!

It was very easy to be drawn into this book and get wrapped up in the fantasy world created. I was in the right mood for a fantasy, so this one really suited my reading needs. Ms Fredricks is definitely an author to watch!!

Rhycious, a centaur, is the remedy maker for the centaurs. Patience, a wood nymph, is a mediator for her people. The two meet when Patience is found wounded in the woods while looking for her sister and brought to Rhycious's cabin.

To say I loved this would be a gross understatement, I really don't think there are words for how much I enjoyed this book. Sheri Fredricks has done an amazing job of making these characters and the world they live in feel real. I adored how Patience talked, even if I needed a translator for half of it, I found it adorable that it confused the hell out of Rhycious but he went with it anyway.

An amazing new world that I look forward exploring more of.

Remedy Maker was my first fantasy romance and first by this author. What a treat! Not only was the remedy maker male, but hot and intriguing! The author did her research and pulled me in from the first pages!! I entered a world of fantasy and incredible characters and I didn’t leave until the end! I fell in love with Rhy and Patience from the start. And did I mention the hero is HOT! I loved the concept of this book and hope the author writes books for a couple of the side characters because I fell for a couple of them too! Thank you, Miss Fredricks! I look forward to more of your books!

Do you like Fantasy? If you do, you NEED to read this series! Sheri writes one of the most creative, unique worlds/stories I have ever read. I am not a huge fantasy fan, but I love these stories. You wouldn't think that a centaur shifter, a wood nymph and trolls all in the same story would work but they do. Not to mention the fact that the wood nymph talks like a lot of teenagers these days….hilarious. Rhy the main character is so yummy and torn that you can't help but love him. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Remedy Maker was the first book I’ve had the opportunity to read by Sheri Fredricks, I must say I was impressed. I didn’t want to stop reading; it was like the story came to life. Rhyscious & Patience captured my heart I fell in love with these characters, I laughed & cried I felt like I was right there with them.

Never have I read such a fantastic mythical fantasy with a wood nymph, a Centaur who falls in love. This will have you in tears one moment & laughing then next, not to mention the very sexy scenes.

I loved this book! Sheri has created a wonderful world within the Boranda forest. Its filled with centuars, nymphs, trolls and some humans. This is a love story at its finest, love does conquer all in this book. It defeats hundreds of years of prejudice brought on by war between the mythical beings and the heroe's bad case of PTSD. What to know more...buy the book?!

I really liked this story. At first I felt a little lost with all the information about the mythological creatures. Then after about 5 chapters I was hooked. This story is about two people/creatures falling in love. And the many prejudices they face because they are from different races. It is also about politics and unrest, which gives and great twist of intrigue to the love story.

What a great story. I loved our hero, hurt and distant. Our heroine, wild, free and always in his way. Love it!
