Mania

Rate this book
Mania - A gay erotic adventure with a manic twist that stings.

This short story (7400 words) covers a morning in the life of a manic depressive as seen through his eyes. In the early stages of mania — the sex drive increases significantly and inhibitions are lowered. That can be a recipe for trouble. But throw into the mix a boyfriend who won’t entertain the idea of a morning fuck, and the boyfriend’s handyman father calling round to measure up the bathroom when his son’s at work. Mr. Adams hates his son’s partner with a passion that’s verging on the certifiable, and has no sympathy for his condition. He also has a volatile nature which explodes in a most unexpected way.

Please note that this story contains scenes of violence and anal sex.

Jack Brighton

Jack Brighton is a British author who specialises in gay erotica with a BDSM slant. His books are widely available on all major e-book and specialist erotica sites, published by his company – Firm Hand Books.
Jack was born and raised in the west of Scotland then moved to the south of England after graduating from university, living first in London before moving to the sanity of Brighton.
Having forsaken the stress of working in London’s finance sector to become a full time author, Jack now spends much of his time on the small Mediterranean island of Gozo where he lives with his partner.
Jack also writes under the pen names:

Fergie Boy
Jack’s early erotica works were produced for a web site called Gay Boy Books, where he wrote under the name Fergie Boy. Subsequently this material was brought under the Firm Hand Books banner and is now available through the same channels as Jack’s later work. The stories are highly erotic but not specifically BDSM in nature – although in certain books like ‘Preparing the Way’ and ‘Spanked at Last’ the evolution into Jack Brighton can be seen. Fans of Jack’s work might find it interesting to see where he has his literary roots by checking out some of the Fergie Boy books.
Jack no longer writes under the Fergie Boy name. However, he does write under...

Tom Farrell
Having published over twenty books by mid 2011, and created a strong niche in the gay BDSM market, Jack decided to expand his reach once again. Not wishing to dilute the Jack Brighton body of work and perhaps confuse his loyal readers, or re-invoke Fergie Boy, a new pen name was created to write under. This was Tom Farrell.
Under the banner 'Flaming Hot', Tom Farrell's books fall into two categories: 'Flaming Hot Gay Erotica' and 'Flaming Hot Gay BDSM'. The distinction is hopefully very clear. Both collections are softer than Jack Brighton's normal work - the 'Erotica' collection much more so. But it is still Jack Brighton - his ideas and his style. So if you like Jack's books then why not check some of Tom Farrell's work out.

Fun short about a bipolar layabout with a heretofore unrecognized BDSM D/s kink.

I have not a lot to say about this book except that it was good.

That is the fantasy of an always horny young guy who lives with another, named Mitch, who is not very interested by sex. Then Mitch's father, Mr. Adams, a butch and strong man, comes to repair something and the MC makes him very angry. Then Mr. Adams strikes and rapes the MC who wants more of this rough sex that his partner is unable to give him.

A few sentences from the book:

‘Hello darling, welcome home. I keep having this urge to wring your neck, but apparently it’s fine. Now let’s get your trousers off – there’s something else I have an urge to do.’

The MC says that’s fine because his psy told him so.
He’s out of control and I’m there with him – hating the bastard, wanting him more.

The MC is speaking of Mr. Adams.

While the MC is being fucked by Mitch’s father--that he hates--, both men looks at each other with their “optical daggers” in the mirror. The author adds that the hate is bouncing on the glass.

Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!

P.S.1 The young man on the cover is truly beautiful.

Um.... yeah...

This one is not for the faint of heart. It involves cheating and some pretty rough sex. It is also very very British, which I don't love either. I have to admit, it was pretty hot, but in that bad, guilty way. It wasn't romantic at all, really just like verbal porn. Not really my taste.

Not too sure what to make of this one. The beginning was really drawing me into the character, but it didn't take long for his behavior and attitude to really take a turn for the worse. Much like the handyman father, I also had trouble seeing just what the hardworking partner saw in this guy.

This story is loaded with heavy Britspeak, both in words and sentence structure, which takes a little getting used to. When it is done consistently throughout a story like this, it really gives me a feel for the story and characters and I find it quite enjoyable. Not sure the same would be true for a full-length book, however.

Straight-up, not pretty, rough sex. Griity and without apology this short story is well told if not disturbing. And no, it isn't the sex, but the fact that one of the participant's is dealing with a mental issue and the other is definitely out of bounds in their behavior. Interesting for its raw sexuality.

Note: Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances--not Bouquet! That's how she wanted her name pronounced not its actual spelling. Don't know what the spelling error was about, but critical oversight.

This is a very disturbing short story. There is forced sex which is possibly rape and mental illness. It's an uncomfortable read but yet it definitely takes you into the mindset of someone who is in the throes of mania. I can't say I exactly liked it, but I'm not sorry I read it. It may be one of those mind expanding stories which I'm glad I read later.

Rather curious insight in manic depression. Liked Brit speak.

There is so much room for improvement. I'm leaning more toward 2 1/2 stars rather than 3. If the author had an editor this would have been a lot better. And it has nothing to do with the UK language. It's full of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Which, because of the amount, detracts from what would have been a great story.
