Picking up where BLOODROSE left off, this short story delves into the aftermath of the final battle between the Searchers, the Keepers and the Guardians. Adne is haunted by her past actions, Logan is running for his life, and the Searchers still don’t feel safe. What they thought was the end of the War of All against All may just be the beginning of something even more sinister...
Andrea Cremer also known as Andrea Robertson, is the author of the internationally bestselling Nightshade series. She spent her childhood daydreaming and roaming the forests and lakeshores of Northern Wisconsin.
Andrea has always loved writing and has never stopped writing, but she only recently plunged into the deep end of the pool that is professional writing. Before she wrote her first novel, Andrea was a history professor at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. In her books, she strives to bring together her two passions: history and fantasy. Andrea now lives in New York and writes full time.
RRRRREEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! Tell me this is true!!! I can't believe it !!! He better fudging be ALIVE because if he is just a figment of Adne's imagination I'm gonna flip my shit!!
Hmm… What is the point of this? Is Cremer planning to write a sequel to the Nightshade series? Is she trying to win back fans who were beyond irritated by the end of that series with the hints/teases in this novella?! This really smacks of way too little, far too late to me, but I might be intrigued if she does have a follow-up book/series planned… Then again, I’m not sure Cremer can be trusted. I haven’t been able to talk myself into reading RIFT yet--I’m just having an excruciatingly difficult time “getting back on the horse” after being thrown and trampled bloody with BLOODROSE. All I can say is that if she’s crazy enough to attempt another book to follow BLOODROSE, Calla (and Shay!) had better not make ANY appearances in it AT ALL! My hatred is pretty deep-seated where they’re concerned!! (On another note: this Kindle book was WAY TOO pricey for how incredibly short it was!)
That's it. Mainly because of the Searchers - Adne, Connor, Ethan and the addition of Sabine - they're all very cute and dandy.
But this novella didn't satisfy me enough to erase the dissatisfaction from Bloodrose. It just didn;'t. I think Andrea Cremer should have just ended it slightly different and maybe even placed this at the end of Bloodrose, because by publishing this separately, the readers who were left angry, annoyed and the like, won't pick up this novella because the series had ended and they will probably fell a little bit of hatred towards the author and vow to never read one of her books again.
This is just my opinion, but from the number of readers of Bloodrose on GR, and the number for this novella, it looks like not all of the fan/or ex fans, are picking this up.
So sad to see something that was so good in the beginning, becoming such a mess in the end.
I'm still conflicted on reading the spin-off series if Andrea were to do one about Adne and this Bosque stuff.
YES! YES! Motherfucking yes!! Holy fucking shit!! Oh my god!! There might be some hope after I was shattered beyond repair in Bloodrose. Holy Christ on a cracker!! This is good...a start.
But I will not get my hopes too high. But that last line had me almost cry tears of joy and relief!!!!! I do not like Calla and she's not at all redeemable in my eyes. But this was a nice treat for the broken since it was about Adne and her dreams...the aftermath of the war that occurred in Bloodrose and killed so many. I loved seeing this, Adne's struggles with losing her father and brother. *moment of silence to remember Ren* It was so god damn heartbreaking that the book ruined the series for me.
But...there's hope. Motherfucking right there is! So I might be more apt to read the next spin-off series. As long as its not from Shay or Calla's head, I'll be okay. And hopefully I won't have to see their horrible, betraying faces in the future. I love Connor. And Ethan. And Sabine. Any of those characters I'll definitely read about. And of course Adne...love that girl!
Calla? Hell no. Shay? Fuck no!! No and no!
But at least Cremer has given me a reason to possibly give her a second chance. I wanted to boycott any further Nightshade series and I haven't read the prequels either. But hell, I'm so glad I read this. Omg. I can just die happy now. No, not die...I need to know if that ending is legit and if it implies what we all desperately hope it's implying. Then I can die one happy biznitch!
I need Snakeroot now. When's it coming out?? Omg, my eyes are filling with tears of elation. I have to breathe. That end possibly made up for all the crap I felt in Bloodrose. Okay, so that was a lie. It won't make up for all the ranting and crying and anger I felt, but it will help keep some semblance of hope. God, I hope it's not a hoax. Fucking shit!! Okay, I'm done.
Oh and one more thing, if that end didn't happen like that, I might be complaining about the price of this novella. Those that are under 30 pages should be .99 cents. Not 2.99. What the fuck?! But whatever, I just hope and pray to god it's worth it in the end.
Forget about what I said before. ILY CREMER. ........................................................
Like I don't even fucking really know what I'm doing with this book. I swear, I really don't now why it's in my hands, when I was absolutely, completely, utterly, disgusted with the previous novel. I honestly don't know. BUT- But, due to a certain someone (How I would like to french kiss that person all day!) mentioning how I should read this if I despised Bloodrose-- and also due to a certain someone who I adored like a baby n the series shows up--- I decided to give it a shot. BUT-- A certain murder will be on my hands if this does not go as expected, I swear.
This review has spoilers from Bloodrose (book 3). Please do not read this if you have not read Bloodrose.
Where to start? Okay so I really liked Nightshade and Wolfsbane and most of Bloodrose. But I really did not like what happened with Ren. And I really did not like how Bloodrose ended. But I was curious about Aftermath (supposed to be a story right after Bloodrose).
Since the whole series was mostly about the wolves for some reason I thought that this story would be about the wolves. That we would get some closure on what happened.
Anyhow that is not what this story is about. This is simply a short story told from Adne's point of view. I do really like Adne and I do think that she is very cute with Connor. But I really would have liked to see some of the wolves.
But the ending. OMG. Now I need to know. Are there going to be more books? A spin-off series with Adne? More novellas? I really really hope that the author does not leave us hanging like this.
*ahem* What was that? It can't be, can it? O_O I mean.. Everyone saw one's death. Everyone! It's pretty much impossible for one to be alive so I'm not going to get my hopes up and I'll settle with the solution that what Adne saw was a delusion or something.
Anyway, can I just say that I love Adne with Connor? #lesigh. I also adore Ethan's pairing. These four are cute little cupcakes who'd probably make me want to take the cupcake comment back but... No. I won't. LOL. They're awesome!
Since the following books in this series will be about the Searchers and these four have sneaked their way into my tiny little heart then yup, I'm gonna read 'em even if it's a little ridiculous that this series is not ending. Whatever.
WTF does this novella mean? There's so many questions I need answering. Ren, Bosque, Logan? WTH! Does this mean there's going to be another spin off series or will old characters somehow feature in the new prequel series. ANDREA, I need answers! Otherwise, AWESOME novella - like always from Andrea! =)
HOLY CRAP!! THE ENDING!! For all of you who, like me, DIED A LITTLE INSIDE because of the outcome of a certain favorite character...YOU MUST READ THIS NOVELLA!! Also, if you've read RIFT, you'll recognize a couple of the names mentioned and will make you even more anxious for RISE.
I had hoped that this novella would be some sort of peace offering from the author since Bloodrose left my heart in tiny, pulverized pieces. I love Andrea Cremer and her Nightshade series; and, even though I gave Bloodrose five stars due to her incredible writing and her ability to create such an emotional attachment between myself and her characters, I was very saddened by one of the choices made at the end of the series. So, I had high expectations that Aftermath would somehow make amends.
This novella is a short story about a break-in in the library at Rowan Estate and Adne’s recurring nightmares involving Bosque Mar. I initially felt the main purpose of this story was to ignite interest and excitement in the author’s new Rift series, which I have been on the fence about reading. I was not at all pleased that there were no Guardians included in this short. Funny how one last page in a book can change everything. I never should have doubted Ms. Cremer!
If Bloodrose left you shattered and completely devastated, then I highly recommend Aftermath if for nothing else but its astonishing ending.
OKAY, first off I'd like to say I KNEW IT! Once I read what the book was about I knew that The thing going on with Adne had to do with Bosques garden from Bloodrose. Second, Andrea hasn't said anything about more books with them but if she decides to she better not have Adne go all evil like Eria and have Calla the wolf end up with Ren. Like wtf he randomly shows up after supposedly being dead. I know alot of people would be happy since they are Team Ren but I'm Team Shay. An also you can't just end a series and make her choose and then change your mind. I don't even like love triangles to begin with. So if shot like that happens if she decides to do another one I'll be so pissed. P.S. Adne and Connor are so cute! I loved reading from Adne's POV. Curious about the Alistar and Ember rings. Possibly wedding rings?!
How the hell could you just leave us hanging like this! I need to know, the other readers need to know where you plan on going with this.... seriously! This book could have definitely been at the end of Bloodrose or a prologue to a new spin off.
I think, I might just hate your Andrea Cremer. SMH you are absolutely killing us here.
I did like this little ending, giving us a taste of what life is like after the choices and consequences have been handed out.
But I think this left me with more questions that I didn't have after Bloodrose. In a way, I guess, it's nice to have hope. But in another, I feel like the last part of Bloodrose was for nothing. Why go back on the choice you've made??
*sigh* oh well, I guess I like the hope more than anything :)
I read this novella in a span of five minutes and wow! But holy crap on a freak cracker!! I'm going to quote a saying in another book..."Woah! Hold it! Throw it in park! And put on the emergency brake!" The ending....Is there going to a spin off series?! I mean come on!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I can't process this right now. Like my brain is saying "holy crap what just happened" while also going YES YES YES!!!!!
I thought that this part of the Nightshade story was done....finished...Calla and Shey lived happily ever after...the end. I was ok with that.....NOW she has to throw Ren (who's supposed to be dead BTW)back into the mix. I can also say that I would of definantly been ok is she never released it. If she wanted to keep it open for other books, she could've just added this onto the end of Bloodrose as a prologue, being that it is seems to be so short.
I expected this to tie up a few ends on terms of the characters left behind (those who weren't Guardians) but if anything it created more questions. It almost seemed like the author set it up for a spinoff series. I like the idea of REN being around, but it almost felt like the author changed her mind about his demise in the end of the series and this was her way of rectifying it. Hmmm, not sure how I feel about the whole thing.
I loved this! Mostly because of the ending ;) And of course, I love Adne and Connor too. They're so cute <3
There are going to be three more Nightshade books after this, written in third person. They're gonna be about the Searchers, Logan, and other familiar characters. I honestly can't wait for the next Nightshade book, coming in Fall 2013!
Nice little novella. Gives us a little look at what may be a spin off series :). Ande is troubled by very realistic dreams that may be a foretelling of the future. I'm kind of hoping they are as I loved the Nightshade series. It would be interesting to see a little more Ren ;).
Seriously I cannot believe Andrea Cremer can do this to her fans- pure torture. If she doesn't follow this through and tell us about Ren I don't know what I wil do. If you have read bloodrose you HAVE to read this!
No, no! Do NOT BRING REN BACK INTO THIS! I’m just going to pretend it was an illusion. I’m so mad though. About SHAY BEING TURNED INTO A WOLF! He didn’t deserve it. He should be with these people as a human figuring out this Seeker business! Ren should be alive and in wolf form with Calla because that is what is supposed to happen! Back to the Shay turning into a wolf that I never said in my rant about the last book because I was too upset at that point. They are supposed to turn into the creature that they are most connected to. That’s understandable, and Calla and her pack turning into wolves made sense completely. They always talked about being a wolf is so freeing and how much they love it and when her brother got it taken away he felt empty, like he was missing something. THAT is why they turned into wolves and not humans. I understand that logic. I follow it! Shay was a wolf for a VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME! He doesn’t connect to the wolf the same way! There was no indication that he connected with the wolf that way! Calla and her pack have been wolves their entire lives. You could argue that the reason became a wolf was because Calla was one but I beg to differ because it was about the individual and he connects more to being human than anyone else. Honestly Ren could have died and Shay should have stayed a human because that’s what he connects to more and Calla should have just been a wolf without either of them and married like some other guy that got permanently changed into a wolf. The library and Keeper stuff is super interesting and I wish the world building in this series was better. The library specifically

I'm going to have to agree with others who have said that this seems like kind of a desperate attempt to keep the series going. I know by now she has two spinoff series from the Nightshade series and I had originally planned on at least trying them out.
But...looking back at my reviews from the Nightshade books I've honestly never loved these books (they were just okay) and Bloodrose pissed me off.
Like others have said this was originally meant to be a trilogy and I'm happy with leaving it at that. So I don't think I'll be reading on to see what is to come of the "revelations" we get in this novella.

I adored the series and this Novella definitely doesnt dissapoint. It definitely needs to be read in sequence with the books though. I havent read the series in a long time so it took me some time to remember and place all the characters and timeline.
