Willow has just lost her job and her boyfriend - so she couldn't be more downtrodden. She severed the bonds with her family (she's an only child) years ago due to her parents fundamentalist teachings. That means two things are converging that will forever alter her life: she grew up believing in strict obedience for the sake of obedience and she has no ties in the world at the moment. Enter Damek - a slave trainer for Carnal Inc. He kidnaps Willow from her apartment and proceeds to take her to the slave training facility. Along the way she is tortured with arousal and pain - in fairly equal measures. It is a pattern that will continue as she is trained.
Willow is not sure what to think but her viewpoint at that moment is skewed - due to her life circumstances. Part of her is actually a bit apathetic which is an interesting place to be in the head of a captured woman. That perspective was very difficult to get into and understand. Most of us would have fight or flight reactions - perhaps tending to extreme on either end. "Death before capture" or "Do anything to survive" come to mind. Willow is not like that - she's quite torn by the extreme amounts of pain and humiliation (although she cannot deny some level of arousal at times) she is put through which is always countered at some point by arousal and orgasm. She looks at the other women in the facility but makes only tentative voyeur type connections to them. This means, invariably, Stockholm comes into play due to the isolation of her with Damek. It's not my fave plot device because it can feel like a cop out for exploration of other feelings. Like a shield over what is really going on inside someone's head. I actually think Ms. Harper does a very good job with this as you experience what is happening inside Willow's head - it never quite approaches the more identifiable Stockholm type syndrome - instead what she feels is all mixed up and quite confused. Although this is not so fun for the reader it is probably more accurate to how people would react.
Damek was an interesting character - and the loss of a star is due to him. He was very distant and business like and then does a bit of a morph after a while. It's not that he cannot morph - he certainly could - it's just that journey needed a touch more exploration. He never comes to a "good guy" persona - but there is the flavor of an anti-hero with him. To her credit the author did not make him a good guy in the end - it is (Oh how I hate to say this) a shade of grey where he ends up.
Clearly this is capture/rape fantasy so if this isn't your thing then stay away. Nothing irritates me more than readers who chose a book like this and then somehow say it is "too harsh". Get real. That's the type of book it is - if you can handle it then go forth and read and think about how twisted psychologically the characters are (and I mean all of them!). If not then just don't do it. This is not your mother's bodice ripper ladies (and gents).

This book went out of my comfort zone, which is okay, I like to try new things.It was well written and you could easily follow the characters feelings and thought.
It follows Willow a woman who just got dumped and lost her job. Then she gets captured and turned into a sex slave for an auction. It was interesting watching her progression from a normal person to a piece of flesh. The way her mind changed and how she handled the extreme torture. I don't think I could survive any of this but I guess if you don't have a choice you have to cope somehow.

Good read
I don't normal read this trope, but in the last few days I've read a few and this one I like the best. It can be a brutal read but this one although still tough because of the way women are seen and used which is Frightening. The relationship is softer and they have a bond pretty quickly. If you like this trope or trying something new I can recommend it.

I loved this book - loved the slave training - loved the way Damek trained Willow to be a sex slave to be sold at auction. Great story - loved the "other" story of how Willow came to be at the slave training facility. Great story

I read the book It was so cruel and the ending was ludicrous

Carnal Slave, by Vonna Harper. The first of the Carnal Inc books. Before
I discuss plot, let me just say, what an absolutely lousy job of
editing, someone did. Misspellings abound, missing words, modifiers,
syntax errors. This drives me insane. But, if the story is good,
sometimes I can overlook it. Not here.
The start of the story, and about 2/3 of the book deals with her capture
and the intense training she receives. It is harsh, brutal,
overwhelming. There were times when I wondered why she did not just slam
her head repeatedly into the concrete floor, to bring about
unconsciousness, or even death.
This book is even more brutal than "Her Submission" which I consider the
better book (certainly the better-spelled and edited book!). If you
remember my review of that book, I said the slavery system in these
books was not as harsh as the Harvest Association was, in Cherise
Sinclair's books. Well, according to this book, I was wrong about that.
Then the book kind of falls off the rails in the final third. Spoiler
alert!!
The idea that her former employer and her former boyfriend conspired to
have her kidnapped and thrust into this program was already overkill.
The idea that her boss did it BECAUSE she had uncovered evidence of his
shoddy building practices, BUT never told anyone, is absurd. She
protected him, so he turns on her? The whole scenario was too
unrealistic, too much an author's invention.
Then, her trainer falls "in love" with her, pays the cost of her
training the day before her auction, and spirits her away, not to
freedom, but not abject slavery, either.
Bleagh. First, her former employer acted like he wanted to buy her, to
"bring her to heel." Second, any human slave operation has no heart, and is not going to
settle for just the cost of her training. At the auction,I'm sure she
would have brought many times profit for cost. They are just going to
let that go? For what is 1/13 of the total sales for the auction?
Absurd.
And finally, the idea that the reason he fell for her, and is taking her
away from all this, is because thru her brutal training, she found the
strength within herself, and became a better, stronger person. What a
crock! 2/3 of the book, if not more, are dedicated to him breaking her,
making her "just a piece of meat" who does exactly what she is told or
else. How do we go from that to a strong thinking woman?! Bull.
Very disappointed on so many levels. After "Her Submission" I really
wanted to see where this began, and given the hints in that book, it was
obvious that Willow and her trainer got together by the end of the book.
But it was such an illogical, disjointed journey, not understandable,
rife with spelling and syntax errors, just frustrated the heck out of
me.

I was ready to give this one 5 stars when I was %65 through it.
Willow is a docile and obedient young lady, always doing what others told her to do. She's grabbed by the good folks at Carnal Incorporated to be sold as a slave.
Damek is her trainer, and is a big believer in both psychological and physical punishment as teaching tools. She's both sexually responsive and very obedient from the start, but unlike most of the slaves, she gets less obedient and docile as the book goes on.
The last 3rd of the book is just weird to me. Willow becomes more brazen and whatnot, and Damek turns into some sort of Vanilla guy, and they find their HEA together as a vanilla couple.
I don't even know what to say about it. Does the author hate BDSM? No idea. Does she think lifestyle Masters frequently just go vanilla? Again, no idea. Do they stop owning the slave of their dreams so that they can turn vanilla, when said slave is having mind numbing orgasms as a slave? I don't even want to speculate.
I know as a lifestyle slave myself, it just feels like either the characters in the book are betraying themselves, the author has no idea what drives people into the lifestyle to do this stuff in the first place, or she is trying to impart lessons that even if you are into BDSM, if you find Mr. Right, you can just go Vanilla, all of which is nonsense.
So I knocked off 2 stars for how the last %35 of the book made me feel about myself, and the author/story, and arrived at a 3 star rating.

This was my first venture into a very dark BDSM genre of non consensual sex. I was not sure what to expect, yet I read the book in its entirety. I hate that I paid for it because I didn't really like the book, I would have felt okay had this been a title available via kindle unlimited. I didn't rate it one star because it was well written and I believe for folks who are into this kind of kink, it's a good book. This just wasn't my cup of tea. Also I was disappointed that the story depicted only women as sex slaves, having no worth and being seen as animals. That only men had the means by which to buy and open a person, specifically women. I would have rather seen this treated equal, a sex slave institute that housed and trained both men and women. Oh well... what do I know. Additionally, from now on if the book isn't on Kindle Unlimited, I probably won't buy it. I like to try before I buy considering the cost of ebooks these days.

Sick, vicious and brutal story that kept my attention until the last few chapters when it got a little weird and boring. Not the climatic ending I was hoping for after the crazy happenings throughout the book.

This was an okay read for me. The concept of the big, bad trainer showing emotion and falling for the feisty little slave is a little unbelievable to me. And I also would have really liked to see how he did treat her after paying for her.
