I'm beginning to wonder if Dale Mayer isn't some evil genius who skulks around in her mountain top fortress thinking up ways to place her characters in situations that leave her readers wide-eyed and frantic to know what happens next. She probably steeples her fingers while cackling maniacally as she plots.

Book 2 picks up directly from where book 1 left off. Tessa's in danger, her friends and family are frantically searching for her and the bad guys are poised to do more very bad things. As if the whole blood farm thing wasn't enough, right? Alas, these bad guys are nasty, nasty individuals who have no regard for either human or vampire life.

I do love that Tessa is coming into her own so nicely. Her throwback genes have made her an outcast and yet she's not willing to fade away into the background or hide from what needs to be done. She calls the Elders on their decisions and she pushes them to do the right thing - not just the actions that will help their race, but the morally right things that will help all the people taken and used for their blood.

Tessa spends a good chunk of this book separated from her family and friends. While I understand why this happened, the hopeless romantic in me wanted her to get back to them as soon as possible so that we could see more confused, longing glances between her and Cody. What? I want more kissing. There's nothing wrong with that.

Overall, this was a dark, sometimes bloody look at how trying times can help people -or vampires - rise to the occasion and shine. Tessa's story is far from over (gives that ending the side eye) and I will wait patiently to see how she gets out of her newest predicament.

Still a good addition to the series. The progression was on point and it made me want to read more about the blood farm. That’s something I’d never read of in any vampire book before. This author has a pretty good imagination when it comes to vamps.

[This review also appears on Andi's Young Adult Books.]

I was grateful to have Book 2 on my hands, as Book 1 ended on such a cliffhanger. I didn't want to wait around to find out what was going to happen to Tessa and her friends and family.

Book 2 felt slower to me. It seemed like a lot of the time the characters were just roaming around the mysterious building. They often separate and someone ends up going missing, so everyone has to go find that missing person. I had a hard time understanding how they got away with being there, with none of the bad guys being quickly alerted. Of course, you're never really sure who is a good guy and who is a bad guy. Those you think you can trust really are not trustworthy.

Tessa continues to grow into her vampire side, surprising her friends and family. She has quickly developed a take charge kind of attitude that no one is used to seeing. She is also quickly honing her skills, as being thrust into a war situation has given her no other choice.

It feels like the war is only just beginning, despite any resolutions made within this story. It again reads like watching a TV show or soap opera unfold on the screen. Each chapter consists of various scenes, illustrating a portion of each character's situation. Where the chapters break would be logical commercial breaks on the screen. This does keep the story flowing. It also ends again with a cliffhanger, making you want to read the next installment. It hasn't yet been published, but I look forward to having the chance to check it out when it is.

I received a complimentary ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I was absolutely mesmerized from the very beginning! This series is very different from any other vampire series that I have read. And all in a good way! It starts off with Tessa feeling very different than the rest of her family. Her parents and 2 brothers are all "perfect" vampires, whereas Tessa has some human genes & traits and no one knows why. Tessa feels that she doesn't fit in with either world - human or vampire - and goes on an accidental adventure and along with doing a lot of good, she is able to find out that "to thy own self be true". The series reads like one big long novel with each of the books NOT ending, so be prepared to read all of the books! Although I promise that will not be much of a hardship. I think it is fantastically written, and very unique. Even though I have read a LOT of vampire & paranormal books, this series is very refreshing and original and very much worth the read. I decided to amend my review because I wanted to say that I don't do reviews for each book as I find it too hard to say how good it is without giving away to many secrets!!! I will say that I connected with Tessa instantly (even though I am old enough to be her mother (human not vamp, unfortunately!). She worries about all the usual teenage issues - hair, makeup, clothes, boys, getting a boyfriend and of course, fitting in. I like that the story follows 3 main people, although it is not told from 1st person, but I think that makes it much easier to understand, follow and even relate/connect with each character. If Dale's books are all written as terrific as these ones are, then I hope that she has plans to write a LOT of books! :)

Dale Mayer did it again. How dare she write a wonderful, totally enthralling story and make us wait to read the next one and find out what happens!

This is the second book in the Family Blood Ties series. It was just as awesome as the first one! There was so much action and intrigue! Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the plot twisted or turned. It left me gripping my seat in anticipation and I can not wait to read the next one.

I loved how Tessa became more confident with herself in this book.

You should definitely read book one first. Vampire in Distress picks up right where Vampire in Denial leaves off.

I recommend this to everyone who likes vampire books, YA paranormal books, or just wants to read an exciting story.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I honestly feel that this book was terrific and it left me anticipating the next one!

Tessa and her family and friends are back again in another book. This book is the continuation of the first one, so you have to read that one to get it. They are still in the blood farm. But it seems the longer they stay the worse things happen. Tessa and her family and friends have to get out of there before it is to late! And is Tessa and Cody making a love connection. Find out in Vampire in Distress.

This book was horrible! It just picked up from form where it left off. Everything seemed a little boring because things just seemed to drag on. The same thing just happened over and over again. You knew what was going to happen before you read it. Over all this was a really bad book. I will read the next one to see if it is any better. I don't recommend this book.

Two very important things happened at the end of the first book, one was the discovery of Moltere hanging like the humans in that warehouse. Moltere was their prime suspect, now they had no idea who could be running this place. Second, Tessa had been sleeping in a bed next to Jared when she disappears. No one knows what happened or where she is other than Cody found a syringe on the floor by the bed. That leaves the question of how did they get in and then out with Tessa.

Now Tessa's guards are concerned, first she got sick and second she's not waking up. Although that wasn't exactly true, she was pretending to be asleep and listening to every word they said. When they leave she gets free and heads in the opposite direction of their energy.

In the meantime, Cody and Ian find the passage they think was used to take Tessa and follow it, finding nothing but a possible exit streaming daylight and beyond a marshy area with no footprints they head back. Only to be knocked out briefly. Goran, Serus and David went the other direction, to where they came in. Then covering up and dashing to the house they first searched for Jared but found Cody and Jewel. They find themselves locked in but search to be sure they haven't missed anything before returning to the warehouse.

Jared wakes up and Rhea explains what had happened and also that Tessa has been kidnapped. He's a bit shocked to find out Tessa is a vampire. He doesn't know who to trust, that vampires did this doesn't inspire trust in the ones around him.

When the doctors and support teams show up, Jared freaks out and runs.

I sort of feel sorry for Jared, but he does eventually pull it together.

Tessa manages to get away and to a safe spot where once darkness falls Goran and her father can pick her up. In the meantime things are off in many ways down in the warehouse.

Tessa discovers unconscious people in a van that should have been transporting the rescue crews, adding even more suspense to this already tense tale. She also decides enough is enough and calls in everyone she can think of both human and vampire to help.

Plenty of funny moments as well as tense ones as this story progresses. There is another cliffhanger but that's okay because this is a completed series. I'm off to start the next book!

Another good one. Just as Tessa and her friends and family discover the farm and rescue Jared, Tessa herself gets kidnapped. As Cody, David, Jared, and her parents are looking for her at the farm, she herself manages to get free and escape from those holding her. Not knowing exactly where she is but assuming it has to be relatively close to where the farm is, she contacts her family to let them know she is free but needs their help getting back. In the meantime, Rhia and the others are waiting for the arrival of additional team members to assist them with the people strung up. When some of those team members appear a little suspicious, Cody, David, and Jared decide to search for a way out of the farm to get more help, but who can they trust? With the size of the location, the number of missing people in the facility, they come to realize that both humans and vampires must be involved and some of them have to be pretty high up to cover up such a large operation. Once the outside world becomes aware of the atrocities, a war seems inevitable between the good guys and the bad, but they need to figure who is which before they themselves get killed or their DNA harvested.

It is strange how the entire book takes place at the farm and it feels as of our friends keep going around in a circle with no potential happy ending in sight. Tessa is found, but then they are attacked above ground and they begin to realize that everyone below ground is not who they say they are. Separated from their remaining family and friends, with communications almost impossible thanks to their cell phones' battery life, struggling to determine friend from foe, all they can do is hope that the others are fairing better than they are, but scared of what they will find. Even more frightening, Cody and David begin to realize that something is wrong with Rhia, that Jewel and Ian are missing, and Jared ventured off on his own. Worried about their fathers and Tessa above, and for Jewel and Ian below, they go about trying to rescue their friends while trying their best not to get captured and drugged too.

This book sped fast, but felt never-ending too because I just could not see how this would end well for our small group of good guys.

I am not ashamed to admit that I devoured this book because it’s a refreshing take on vampires and I laughed at how often the characters can stuck in the same situation over and over again. At least the characters reacted like I’m sure any of us would if we were in their shoes.

It took me an hour to finish it because I could not put it down.

This book has been on my TBR for almost eight years, and I finally got around to reading it.

Though this book revolves around a "blood farm", it's really a coming of age story for a teenage vampire. It is fun, engaging, and easy to read. I'll probably complete the series at some point (hopefully it won't take me another eight years).

This entire book I was so scared for Tessa. I was wondering how the others would find her. But, just like I know she would she prevailed. This book shows that a girl doesn’t mean any assistance from anyone else to be her own hero. Even if she’s different she’s a superstar!

Kinda cheesy, like the writing is juvenile. Overall I liked it though because it was not a bad concept. Tessa’s character had growth and Cody is chill. Honestly I had read the series as a kid and really enjoyed it so it holds a place in my heart even though it isn’t really that good.

Vampire in Distress picks up where the last book leaves off. I really like how the author has the last chapter of the last book as the prelog in this book it refreshes your memory about what is going on. Dale Mayer out did herself with, I couldn't put this book down it's jam packed with action. We get to see Tessa really come into her own she is in danger and no one knows where she is so she has to find a way to escape on her own. (And boy did she). I feel for Tessa she still really hasn’t had one conversation with Jared. She is also confused by her feeling for Cody (her brothers best friend). Other than the action and seeing Tessa kick some butt I really enjoy reading about how these two characters are coming together. As they come to terms with some of their feelings something happens that neither of them are expecting now they are really going to have to work on their relationship (whatever it is) their are not going to have much of a choice.
Jared is awake and he is pissed off to know end. He is torn he wants to help the other blood farm people but at the same time get the hell out of dodge. Plus add that Tessa is missing and most likely taking by the very people that has taken him he really doesn’t know what to do. The interaction between Cody and Jared goes just as one would expect...but at the same time you can see that there is grudging respect there too.
It is kind of urke some to see how the adults in Tessa’s life don't really trust her I guess is the best way to say it, even with all that they have gone through they still can't see her as what she is starting to become. But she handles herself she is all sass and vinegar she isn’t going to let anyone put her down or not let herself be heard ever again even if it means being disrespectful to her elders.
As with the first book this one has a lot of humor and is fun to read. It is packed full of twists and turns. Just when you think everything is ok then something else happens that puts them right back into danger. Will Tessa and everyones she holds dear ever be free of this nightmare I guess we will have to read on to find out.

DALE MAY6ER HAS A CONTINUING GREAT SERIES.I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE.YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS SERIES !!!!!
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION

Well, I know I'm ready for MORE,RIGHT NOW. LOL But I can't have it yet.In book 1 Tessa (a 16 year old vampire with weird human throw back genes) feels completely out of place, she is not like anyone she knows or has ever heard about, mostly she lives in the human world and they don't know she is a vampire. Now this book takes up where the last left off. It seems that every time they divide their group, usually after finding whoever was missing, someone else gets taken (vampire or human doesn't seem to matter). Now after finding her friend and laying down to rest while the men check out what all they have found, she falls asleep but having dreams of tubes and needles, wakes to find it real and she is sick. There are so many twist and turns, fear and laughter but mostly love of friends and family and care, and pity for the thousands they have found. All the time losing and finding part of their group, some injured more then once and 4 or 5 drugged. But during all they go though, Tessa comes into her own, and finds out that others have had some of the things she has. She learns to control things and Cody , his father, David and their father finally learn to be very proud of her.By the end the rescues party seems to have arrived, humans and vampires, both counsels, high school kids, she sent a message to everyone from both sides in her cell phone. Then she, David and and human doctor Taz's wife Sian are sent home, but when Tessa wakes up, no one is around (inside or outside the car) nor does she even know where she is. What will she do now? Is there someone around that she can't find? Will her family find her? Do they know she is missing? Where are David and Sian? More to the point where are the elders who were giving them all a ride home?

What just happened? After a stellar read of book one in The Family Blood Ties series, book two rattled on and one with the rescue crew getting separated again and again as well as being attacked over and over as well. That is not even the bad part. The worst thing is "Vampire in Distress" felt more like a 'filler' book with little if any progress being made towards moving the plot forward. I could have just read the beginning and the end and been happier.

After Tessa lays down to take a nap next to Jared, she is kidnapped. Soon she wakes from a drug induced stupor and manages to escape. While she searches for her freedom her friends and family get separated and attempt to find her.

The Calvary is called in and not everyone are the good guys. Now is difficult to know who to trust. Jared awakens, meets Tessa's family and discovers her secret. He and Cody finally meet face to face and they each let each other know they don't like each other. Jared goes to explore some caves and is separated from the group once again.

Over and over the group come together and then are separated: Wash, Rinse, Repeat ad nauseam!!!!!!! I found myself wondering if I would be able to finish this book. I've gone from a 5 Star first book to a 2 star second book and quite frankly the ending of this book doesn't leave me very hopeful that book 3 will be any better! I purchased the 3 in 1 book so I will go on to read book 3. However. if things don't get better I will not go on with this series after book 3.

Starting with a solid 27-page recap of the last book (because who needs new material?), the plot gasps its way into oblivion. And I do mean gasps. Everyone gasps. Rhia, Tessa, me, the reader by the end, we are all gasping for better dialogue.

The characters are allergic to basic survival instincts. After spending all of book one preaching “DON’T SPLIT UP,” they immediately split up 55 pages into this one. Gasp. Then there’s the underground secret lair that requires anger fuelled door kicking to enter.

The kidnapping count hits an all-time high. Seriously, everyone is kidnapped at least once. Cody finds a needle cap where Tessa was sleeping and everyone concludes, Sherlock-style, “She must’ve been kidnapped.” No kidding, Detective Obvious.

Romance? Oh, it’s here, but it’s more cringe than swoon. Love interest #1, Jared, discovers Tessa is a vampire but is too distracted lusting after her mother. Meanwhile, we get treated to love triangle shenanigans with Cody. Apparently, the one-year age gap between 17 year old Tessa and Cody is unforgivable?

Also, Tessa’s size is described as “odd,” because being tall is obviously supernatural in a world with vampires, kidnappings, and anger kickable doors. Gasp.

Oh, and they communicate exclusively via text. Tessa goes missing, and no one picks up the phone like, “Hey, maybe we should CALL SOMEONE.” Instead, cue more texting, more splitting up, and more gasping.

By the time we hit the inevitable cliffhanger, I had lost count of the kidnappings, love triangles, and inexplicably dramatic gasps.

Teen vampire Tessa had been kidnapped at the end of the last book, so the race is on to find her. At the same time it becomes evident that the blood farm operation is a great deal larger than they imagined, involving not just vampires, but humans as well as some hybrid of both. The vampire group that had gone to initially rescue Tessa’s friend Jared can’t be sure who is involved and whom to trust when calling for help. The war begins.

While I enjoyed most of the book and challenges, I do have to say that most of the story taking place in one location and the same types of things happening over and over, just to different people, was getting old.

What I really love is watching the transition Tessa is going through. Just a couple of days ago she’d been filled with insecurity and had been put down by a good chunk of her family and the vampire community for not having most of the vampire traits and abilities everyone else had. It turns out she is different, but she just needed a passionate cause to make her stand up to others and determination to do what’s needed. And it’s cool to see the respect she’s earned in other’s eyes. That aspect has been fun to watch. But we’re also getting to see the point of view of 3 other teens as their world changes with the challenges they’re facing.

The action is good as is the ongoing scenario of not just taking down the blood farms operation, but not knowing who to trust.

The plot thickens and we are no closer to who is behind the blood farms. Tessa is becoming stronger and the Elder family members do not know what to think about that. She is becoming a force to be reckoned with and I can see she is a going to be a major element in finding the bad guys. This story was a little bit slower then the first but I think it was presented this way to help see how far reaching this atrocity had gone. It also presented some twists that the others were not ready to face and also some realizations. The bad blood between the humans and vampires has been brought back to the surface and they will have to work together if they are going to survive. It is going to come down to the old against the young making the battles even more difficult. Ms. Mayer has a wicked imagination and I enjoy taking the journeys she provides with her books. She is however very mean, as this one also has a major cliffhanger that is sure to make you say a few bad words when you reach the last page.

Vampire in Distress By Dale Mayer
Family Blood Ties Book Two
The war continues between the good vampires and those running the blood farm. And it seems humans might be involved as well. As Tessa gathers people to go and rescue her friend Jared, nothing seems to go right. They fine one person just to lose another.

It soon becomes apparent they cannot trust anyone but their small group. And it also seems that Tessa’s vampire heritage is stepping up for her when she needs it the most. The sixteen-year-old girl from just a few days ago is not now nor will ever be the same. And it looks like the war has just begun.

The previous books in this series are Sian’s Solution and Vampire in Denial. The next book is Vampire in Design. The books definitely end with cliffhangers but the good news at this point is...the next one is published, so no having to wait around.

What a fantastic follow up to the first book! I love how it starts right where the other book left off. No lost hours, days, or months...just right back into the fray so to speak.

A lot of time was spent with Tessa's family and friends as a focus in this book. It really allowed us to get to know David, Jewel, Ian, and even Jared a lot better. Each character has different strengths and it was highlighted very well in this book. I also really liked how Dale contrasts the old generation and then new. There is knowledge and ways of thinking that should not be neglected on either side and I think that they are all beginning to realize this.

And it seems that the "plot has thickened"...with not knowing who to trust a whole different element of suspense is added in. And the action kept moving as there were several different story lines that intertwined easily.

I honestly can't wait for the next book!

Vampire in Distress by Dale Mayer is a wonderful treat! I, thankfully, had book 2 waiting for me when I finished #1.

Book 2 starts right where 1 ended (yea!). No, I’m not going to give it away, ladies and gents. . . Let’s just say, blood farming, a half-vampire that’s missing, and family and friends searching make this a fast paced, wild ride of a book.

This book is a bit more dark and thanks to how long she’s away, the possible romance is forced to the side, and no one wants that! I love how Tessa not only comes more into her own but has the defiance and strength of will to even call the Elders on a few things.

Again, the story is very episode / soap opera styled, which made the reading fun and easy to pick back up if you have to stop for some reason. Dale leaves us with another cliff-hanger – hurry up and write 3, please.

A truly enjoyable YA Vampire read and a must buy!

WOW!!! This story picks up right where book one left off. Tessa has been captured and is trying to figure out how to get back to her family and friends. Luckily Jared has been rescued. But will Tessa get rescued now too? Or will she fall victim to what's been going on? While some of her group try looking for her, the team that they called for to help with this mess arrives. But is this team on the good or bad side? When Tessa and Cody's dad go trying to find Tessa, the rest of the group starts to get picked off when they split up. What will happen? Will everyone make it out alive? Why is the team only Vampires? Why didn't any human team get called in? After all most of the victims are humans. Find out what happens when you read this book. But be warned, this will also end in a cliff hanger.

This story continues where book 1 leaves off. There is a lot of action but to me, the story did not really progress much further. It was pretty much more of the same...fight, get kidnapped, get rescued, get kidnapped again...fight....etc etc etc. It became rather redundant.

This is a series book and must be read in order. This does end in a cliff hanger.

I won't tell you what is in the story, that is what the synopsis is for, but I will tell you, it was a good read that I really enjoyed and I look forward to more of the story.

Love Cody! Can not wait to finally see their HEA if there is to be one. I assume so but have a feeling it will probably be book 12 before we see it at this rate.

All in all a good read.

Would I recommend this book? Yes!

Would I read more from this author? Yes!

Tessa has persuaded her family and friends to rescue her friend Jared after he was kidnapped. What they discover is something that horrifies them all and makes them determined to stop. In the process of that Tessa is captured.

Tessa manages to free herself as her family and friends (including Jared) do their best to work out what is happening as the first team is not all that they seem and include people involved in the conspiracy.

Tessa and Cody move closer in this fighting and discover they can even talk to each other in their minds. What happens next as it appears the fight is not over.

Great second book and I felt better than the first (maybe because it didn't need to set the scene and introduce characters as much)

This is book two in the series. If you thought that number one had a cliffhanger ending, this one is a cliffhanger from the top of Mt. Everest!

What a fantastically written book. It was long but not drawn out which was a feat in itself and a testimony to Dale Mayer's writing ability.

I thought Tessa was home free.... WRONG! Twisty turny! I loved the possible love interests in this one. I know who I want her to end up with but will Dale Mayer go with me or like most authors, pick the opposite of who I'd pick? Only time will tell.

The storyline was pretty much the same as book one but more in depth and focused.

I highly recommend this series to EVERYONE!

Well done Dale Mayer!

This book is an extension to the first one. It is about Tessa a Vampire and her family and friends trying to escape a blood farm. A mess they get into in the first book. They call the police to investigate. I did not like this book. It got a bit boring during the beginning and the middle. I wouldn't recommend the second, but I would recommend the first. I can not lie this book was one of those books I am not interested in.
