This is a great source to gain insights into the Indian Economy for any general reader (without any background in economics). The concepts are explained concisely and in a simple language. It is one of those books that one can read anywhere without any struggle to comprehend the ideas. All in all, a perfect source for acquiring the preliminary knowledge of Indian Economy.
Having had the privilege to attend his lectures, I was not sure if his book would add any additional value, but I was wrong about my apprehension.
The book is neatly written for someone naïve in economics like me. The concepts are explained in layman language with appropriate examples wherever required, before you go on to take up hard books like Uma Kapila or a Dutt, this is a must read for every civil service aspirant. If you're good at inductive logic, you may not even need another book unless you have opted for Economics in Mains.
The book works for you even if you have a general curiosity to know about Indian Economy and some major events that have happened since independence.
It's really a good book if you want to know the Indian Economy from Layman's perspective
The writer gave perfect illustrations of examples and deal comprehensively about each and every topic.
This books makes me confident about the understanding about the Indian Economy and helped me alot in understanding the trivial issues of Indian Economy.
However, the book is not updated after so many reforms likes of Goods and Services Tax, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016..etc.
A crisp overview of Indian and global economy that targets economics amateurs to develop a taste for the subject. Hardly for the beginners who understand economics as simple demand and supply. The coverage is adequate for the needs of an aspirant who is comfortable with the basics.
basically it is for those who are preparing for competitive exam like UPSC, MPPSC. Its a nice book...concepts are explained very well and in point. I recommend this book for those who are preparing government exams.
The most easy and one stop source if one is looking for good understanding of Economics in Indian context. Easily understood by non economic background reader as well. Nicely structured, well written and explained concepts of Indian Economics. Must read by everyone for knowledge gain.
Worst book. Its like Trump nd Musk themselves sat down with an Indian to finalize it, to be read by all the Indian civil servants and work for America's interests.
Read it for the information on schemes nd policies of indian institutions. Glad that it finally ended.
A superb book for anyone who wants to understand Indian economy, its fallouts and challenges. The book goes beyond definitions of basic terms and explains everything in a very analytical yet simple manner.
Sadly, Sanjiv sir is no more and hence the book won't be revised regularly. The book is bound to become outdated in next 1-2 years.
Very concise unlike Ramesh Singh. Too many spelling mistakes-kill the flow of reading sometimes.(7th edition). Good for basics alongwith the NCERTs. Go for it if you have no previous knowledge of the subject.
