Shortly after Tamara and her husband moved to the city of Isfara, Tajikistan, a delegation of Muslim women paid her a visit. After welcoming the women into her home, Tamara realized their visit was not a friendly one. The women knew she and her husband were sharing the gospel and declared the two needed to leave the city. Christians—especially those who would share their faith with Muslims—were not welcome. While Tamara heard their message, she did not fully understand the danger she and her husband were in. Tamara is one of twelve courageous women you will meet in this follow-up to Hearts of Fire. From the Colombian evangelist on the run for witnessing to guerrilla fighters, to the American woman who publicly forgave the Islamic extremists who gunned down her husband on the streets of Benghazi, Libya, these women’s lives were turned upside down when they obeyed the words of Christ. However, each embraced the hope found only in the unshakeable eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord. In addition to these twelve stories, you will also read the testimonies of eleven women who share how God strengthened them and provided for them when their earthly kingdom was shaken as they served Him. For more than 50 years, The Voice of the Martyrs has shared the stories of courageous Christians in the world’s most difficult and dangerous places to follow Christ. This new volume brings you true stories of courageous women, heroes of the faith, who represent countless others facing similar trials today. These role models of faith and obedience will inspire you to pursue Christ with heart aflame, no matter the cost!
Last book of the year, took me six months to finish it but the heaviness of each story slowed me down a lot. I can’t imagine life without the freedoms I live with now. Praise the Lord for the ability to worship Him freely!
Oh. My. Goodness. These stories... These women. OUR AMAZING GOD! This was a heavy, but amazing read. I highly recommend it to ages 16+. It mentions violent, brutal, and unfathomable horrors, but even more so, these stories are a reminder of how great our God is.
This book has several individual stories of Christians persecuted for their faith. Some of the stories are better written and more compelling than others but each demonstrated the tremendous sacrifice each made to stand firm in their faith in God. In a country that has the freedom to choose in what to believe we often take this for granted. We are reminded to hold fast and use every opportunity to praise the Lord and share the love and freedom found in Christ.
The stories of the courageous, persecuted Christians around the world never cease to amaze me, strengthen my faith, and humble me, and this book was no different. Perhaps the biggest impact about these testimonies is that they put my own trials in perspective. While my valleys are no less real, reading these stories helps me to keep from complaining about how hard my life is and reminds me of what is truly important in life.
If you want a perspective shift, read this book! Highly, highly recommend that any Christian reads these stories. No matter where you are in your faith journey, this book will inspire, embolden, and encourage you to be bold and fearless in your walk with Christ.
Twelve stories of woman who faced the worst for their faith. Arrested, questioned over and over. Told to denounce their faith, imprisoned, tortured. Lost of husbands, loss of children as a result of their family being targeted. All kept the faith, using their imprisonment to talk to their oppressors about God and Christ.
The stories are compelling. I hope I am brave concerning my faith in the same situation. Buy the book!!!
These are hard stories, but inspiring in reminding us what faith in Jesus Christ is all about. He is faithful to be with each of these women in their trials. While no one ever wants to go through these circumstances, these stories remind us not only to pray for the persecuted but to stand strong in our faith no matter what we face.
Hearts of Fire 2, published by Christian organization Voice of the Martyrs, tells the stories of twelve Christians persecuted for their faith in countries hostile to Christianity. Stories of imprisonment, torture and even death fill the pages of this book. Those of us who live in free countries really have no idea what it means to suffer for Christ.
These stories are so touching and incredibly inspiring. I was continually encouraged by the stories of God protecting and providing for his people in the midst of horrific circumstances. I was also challenged by these women and their boldness to continue proclaiming the gospel in the face of imprisonment, torture and even death.
This was an amazing book full of heartfelt and heartbreaking stories, but filled with the love of God. These women stood their ground with their faith. Some went through excruciating lows, but never faltered. God is good!
What an impact this book had on me!!! I had goosebumps listening to some of the stories and cried and prayed for the women I read about in this book. Such impactful and inspiring stories that will stick with me for years to come. HIGHLY recommend every Christian lady read this book!!
Listened to audiobook and only critique is each chapter read by different narrator. I understand reason, because each powerful story is another woman's, but some mispronounced words and some had strong accents that distracted me ("is this real accent or acting?").
Unimaginable. Awe-inspiring. Amazing women of faith standing strong in the face imprisonment, loss of family, and torture just because they wouldn’t renounce their Christian faith.
This book is truly inspiring as a Christian woman. Knowing that my faith and living in the United States is nothing compared to women living in other oppressive anti Christian countries.
