Stealing the Thief, Book 2 in an untitled series, was about Sadie Delanito, a college student majoring in Engineering, and Ari Reins, co-owner of the Reins Detective Agency.
Sadie was the daughter of a man the Reins men were investigating for a client going through a nasty divorce. When she found their business card on her dad's desk, she wanted to find out if they had any dirt on him because her mother was a nasty piece of work and would do anything to ruin her dad. So Sadie decided to break into their business and find out what they had, if anything, on her father. The only problem was, Ari caught her because she set off all their silent alarms.
Once Ari had identified Sadie, he took her to his home. He had already fallen for her, the same as Lawson had done with Vanna in Book 1, although he had not yet admitted to anything except to being intrigued with her, even to himself. The first 8 chapters were devoted to a ton of back-and-forth banter between the two MCs, and it was all just fluff n stuff filler that was not only repetitive but it could all have been left out. Sure, it was cute and humorous to read, but it was a waste of time, ink, and the possibility of making a better story. O.M.G., I don't know of any other book that had the characters babble complete nonsense chapter after chapter! It was a never-ending flow of idiot phrases and thoughts that were just a waste of space and had no bearing on the real story.
There was a good amount of angst and drama, but nothing OTT. There were enough twists and turns to hold the reader's attention and just enough spicy scenes to keep that interest alive. However, the plot was a bit weak, and the storyline was all over the place, leaving quite a few unresolved issues. But it was a good enough story to earn a five-star rating and to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection with the first book of the series.
