En realidad 3,5/5 Estrellas.
Me explico. El libro está bien escrito, los personajes están bien construidos, incluidos los secundarios. Por aquí notable alto.
Estamos ante la típica serie policial en la que hay una historia, casi siempre relacionada con algún aspecto personal del investigador principal, casi siempre truculenta (asesinatos, desapariciones....), que arranca en el primer libro de la serie y se va resolviendo poco a poco en las siguientes entregas (es decir, o empiezas por el principio o estás jodido) y luego, en cada entrega, se va simultaneando con un caso concreto que queda resuelto.
Pues bien la historia larga, la que vamos conociendo poco a poco en cada libro, es buena, la va dosificando, pero tiene potencial. Esos si, de momento sabemos poco y nos deja en tensión para el siguiente.
Es en el caso particular de esta entrega donde más me ha fallado el autor. La trama es sólida, está bien construida y concluida, pero es muy poco, muy poco original...sigo con el poco? Ojo! spoiler!! Típica historia donde un grupo comete un delito, hace un pacto y luego empiezan a pasar cosas raras, alguien se venga, otros se arrepienten.... (no creo que haga demasiado spoiler, ya que rápidamente adivinas lo que está pasando?. Me ha parecido demasiado manido y previsible

Segundo libro de la saga del Inspector Salgado. En este caso quizá con una trama algo más complicada, pero que como buen libro de género que es, al final todo está conectado. Está a la misma altura que el anterior "El verano de los juguetes muertos", así que si aquél os gustó, no debéis dejar de leer éste.

La continuación del inspector Salgado es igual de buena, o incluso mejor que la primera entrega. No sé muy bien por qué, pero el protagonista me recuerda al Brunetti de Donna Leon. Salgado es a Barcelona lo que Brunetti a Venecia. Pero Donna Leon ha perdido mucha frescura con sus últimas entregas, mientras que, de momento, Toni Hill mantiene muy vivo a su personaje, y espero que lo mantenga así y nos siga ofreciendo novelas tan buenas como la presente. Le queda mucho camino por recorrer, pero espero que sea fructífero.
Novela de ritmo pausado, pero que se disfruta página a página, y te deja deseando meterle mano a la siguiente entrega. Suspense de mucha calidad.

Τι περίεργο έγινε με αυτό το βιβλίο:ξεκίνησε πάρα πολύ ωραία,μετά πλάκωσε πολυκοσμία-ο καθένας με το μακρύ του και το κοντό του-αυτοκτονίες που μπορεί και να μην ήταν αυτοκτονίες,μυστικά που στοίχειωναν τους υπαλλήλους μιας εταιρείας,καθώς και η εξαφάνιση της γυναίκας του Σαλγάδο που έλαβε χώρα στο προηγούμενο.Και μετά εδώ κι εκεί,άρχισαν οι "μπουρδίτσες"-τεχνασματάκια" δηλαδή που χρησιμοποιούν ενίοτε οι συγγραφείς για να δώσουν μια τσαχπινιά στο έργο τους,χωρίς εγγυημένη επιτυχία πάντοτε(δεν θα μπω σε λεπτομέρειες,μιας κι αυτό είναι προσωπική μου ιδιοτροπία,και δεν θέλω να το χαλάσω για τους επόμενους αναγνώστες).Και μετά ξαναβρήκε ροή και σασπένς και απ'όλα.Και ενώ ήμουν μεταξύ του 2 και του 3,γιατί μπορεί να ήταν καλό,αλλά το ουάου δεν είχε έρθει ακόμα,άσε που δεν υπήρχε και κανένας χαρακτήρας να ξεχωρίζει-ο ίδιος ο επιθεωρητής σε αρκετά μεγάλο μέρος του βιβλίου ήταν επιεικώς απών-ΗΡΘΕ Η ΑΝΑΤΡΟΠΑΡΑ ΣΤΗΝ ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΑ ΣΕΛΙΔΑ-ΣΤΗΝ ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΑ ΓΡΑΜΜΗ!!!Και γι'αυτό θα πάρει 4⭐-γιατί δεν το είδα να έρχεται!(Και πάνω που άρχισα να ψάχνω σαν τρελή,να βρω αν υπάρχει επόμενο,βρίσκω πως υπάρχει 3ο,αλλά μόνο στα ισπανικά-ούτε καν αγγλική έκδοση μετά από τόσα χρόνια😭)

Segundo libro de la saga de “Hector”.
Unos suicidios que según avanza la investigación vas sacando lo más sórdido de un grupo de personas. Al principio no le encuentras lógica pero finalmente encajan las piezas a la perfección.
Por otro lado sigue con el caso paralelo que se dejó inconcluso en el libro anterior.
Me ha gustado mucho el libro aunq era un poco más lento que anterior.
Voy a por el tercer libro y el desenlace

Ενώ στην αρχή ξεκίνησε αφήνοντάς μου αρκετά μεγάλες προσδοκίες, στην πορεία μου τα χάλασε μιας και ξαφνικά ένοιωθα ότι βρισκόμουν στη ρόδα του χάμστερ. Πήγαινα, πήγαινα και δεν έφτανα πουθενά. Αν δε μου έλεγε μια φίλη συνέχισέ το θα το είχα σίγουρα παρατήσει. Και ξαφνικά... στο παρά 1 κυριολεκτικά, κάνει μια ανατροπάρα που δεν ήξερα από που μου ήρθε! Κι είπα μέσα μου "ναι ρε φίλε" άξιζε! 4 αστεράκια για την ανατροπάρα!!!

me ha gustado, pero en ciertas partes del libro perdía mi interés, pero me ha gustado. Ya había leído las 100 primeras paginas antes xD por eso me sonaba que ya había leído el libro lol

Segunda historia del inspector Salgado, con un caso complicado y la continuación de lo que pasó al final del anterior libro. Muy bien escrito y manteniendo el interés en todo momento. Seguiré con el tercero de la trilogía sin dudarlo.

Having really enjoyed The Summer of Dead Toys I was keen to read the next novel featuring Inspector Hector Salgado. The first book was set in a sweltering, Barcelona summer, but now it is winter and events from the summer have bled into this story. Leire Castro, who was partnered with Salgado in the last mystery, is now on maternity leave. However, with Salgado's ex-wife, Ruth, still missing after the Summer of Dead Toys, she decides to do a little investigating on her own time. That side story accompanies the main investigation; that of the strange spate of suicides among a group of people who work for the same company.
As before, Hector Salgado's private life, plus that of other characters, are as important as both the cases they are investigating and, indeed, the setting of the book itself. Salgado is still coping with being labelled as violent and unpredictable, even though he is nothing more than short tempered, and is also trying to learn how to be a father to his teenage son. He certainly inspires loyalty from those around him, including the impatient Castro, who has her own problems to deal with in this novel. As Salgado attempts to unravel what happened on a team building exercise among a group of executives from a cosmetics company, which has erupted into murder and suicide, another member of his past team are attempting to unravel the mysteries of his own life. The whole novel ties in well and I enjoyed both the atmosphere of Barcelona and the characters in this series, which I look forward to following in future books.

3.5⭐ Un segundo libro casi a la altura de su predecesor, que me ha gustado un pelín menos que aquél por ciertos detalles, algunos de los cuales corresponden a puro gusto personal, de ahí que le haya puesto media estrella menos que, con los redondeos obligatorios de GR, tampoco es que se note demasiado.
El libro básicamente sigue una estructura similar al anterior: tenemos un caso principal, que presenta a personajes nuevos, y una subtrama con mucho peso que atrapa por igual y que recae sobre parte del elenco base de la trilogía con el que nos reencontramos. Quizá la diferencia más notable está en cómo está organizada la historia y es que, mientras que la anterior nos era contada por días, cruzando un poco ambas tramas, aquí es por personajes, dándole cierta separación a cada caso. Me quedo con la primera pero, como ya mencioné, cosa de gustos.
Héctor y compañía, tanto los ya conocidos como los que no, vuelven a estar estupendos, aunque la gente de la empresa de cosméticos me pareció bastante antipática y no conseguí que me interesaran realmente, a ello atribuyo que si bien el caso en general me intrigó, no me convenció al cien.
En definitiva, Toni Hill vuelve a construir una historia sólida, impecablemente escrita, con un protagonista que ya se cuenta entre mis inspectores favoritos y enigmas bien planteados que enganchan con asombrosa facilidad. Es un gusto leerlo.

Intrigante y sorprendente! Este libro me ha tenido en vela toda la noche hasta que he podido llegar al final y saber como terminaba.
Que haya dos historias paralelas es algo que siempre agradezco porque así no me saturo cuando veo que no avanza tanto como quisiera.
La verdad es que cuando me compré los libros no conocía al autor pero desde entonces ya me he leído varios de sus libros y me gusta la forma en la que escribe.

3,5*. Dit boek zat bij mijn verrassingspakket van de bibliotheek. Ik kon deze schrijver nog niet, maar ik moet zeggen dat hij een erg prettige schrijfstijl heeft. Het verhaal sprak me ook aan en het einde was verrassend. Misschien dat ik de andere delen ook nog ga lezen. Dit deel kun je trouwens gewoon los van de andere delen lezen...

En esta segunda novela conocemos un poco más al inspector Héctor Salgado y a la subinspectora Leire Castro, y nos metemos de lleno en un caso de asesinato ocurrido hace varios años. El ritmo de la novela es muy parecido al de la primera, no decae en ningún momento. Por otro lado tenemos de fondo el caso de una desaparición ocurrida en la primera novela, y de la que poco a poco iremos sabiendo mas cosas.
La resolución del caso me ha sorprendido, ya que en ningún momento sospeché del o la culpable, y eso en una novela policíaca siempre se agradece.

This book tells an original story, but is a slow moving mystery, not a thriller in spite of its title. It begins with an apparent murder/suicide committed by an employee of a Barcelona cosmetics company. A second suicide by a colleague of the presumed murderer causes Inspector Héctor Salgado and the rest of the police department to focus their investigation on the secrets of a small group of executives at the company. This case comprises the majority of the book, however a concurrent investigation involves the disappearance of Salgado's ex-wife. I didn't realize that this book was the second in a series, but it appears that this disappearance occurred in the first book and will carry on into the third. I do not know how much context I missed by not reading the first book, but I didn't really care about this case until the final chapters.
I don't think the author is really interested in an accurate portrayal of police procedure. Unless the Barcelona police are really lax, I can't believe they would tell a victim's roommate to search the victim's room for clues or that the police would ask some unrelated psychologist to identify an organization rather than using a police database (or just Google the name). In general, there is a certain randomness to their investigation.
Fortunately, more time is spent with the suspects than with the police. The suspects are a pretty unpleasant crew, but are more entertaining than the police. However, I am sorry that I had to read about the disturbing and repellant teenaged daughter of one of the suspects. The author seems to have mined a clinical psychology text and created a character based on each chapter - and there are a lot of characters.
My conclusion about this book is that the primary case is an interesting story but takes too long to progress, while the secondary case is frustrating and goes nowhere. It's not a bad read but I wasn't entranced.

Barcelona is the setting for this second Inspector Hector Salgado mystery. Though his wife went missing in book one, the police force seems to have given up the search for her. But, Salgado's policewoman partner, Leire, is bored while awaiting the birth of her child, so she secretly takes up the search again.
Meanwhile, Salgado has gotten a strange case to solve . Two people who went on an Alemany Cosmetics Company retreat have committed suicide for no apparent reason. They both received a strange text and a picture of three dogs who were found hanging from a tree on the retreat. Neither leaves a suicide note. Salgado doesn't believe that all the facts really add up and wants to further investigate.
This intriguing mystery revolves around these two mysteries and is told in rotating sections about the different main characters. Though the mystery kept me enthralled throughout the book, I felt that reading the first book-SUMMER OF THE DEAD TOYS--would have added a lot to the story. And the ending left part of the story unsolved, apparently leaving a "teaser" for book three. This was a bit disconcerting for me.
I did thoroughly enjoy the mystery of the suicides and how the author came to call them "good". Throughout the book, I suspected a number of scenarios, but was totally surprised by the solution. Salgado's character was compelling, and the relationships between everyone made me want to learn more and more. I would definitely read more by this author, but I recommend reading this series in order for best enjoyment!

A good mystery but nothing out of the ordinary. It has a good narrative, interesting characters and a great setting: Barcelona. The story revolves around 8 employees that attend a "team-building" seminar in which an occurrence leads them to take an oath not to divulge the incident. This situation leads to 3 suicides to take place in a short period of time. Inspector Salgado, an Argentinian, whose wife, Ruth, has recently disappeared is assigned to the investigation. While Inspector Salgado is investigating the suicides another detective is secretly trying to find out what happened to Ruth. The stories run parallel to each other.
The story tends to be confusing in that there are several flashbacks which are not clearly identified and require rereading to make sure they are not a narrative of the present. I do not know if italics would have solved the problem, but they would have helped. The other problem was of my doing. This is the second of a series and I have the feeling that not having read the first caused the fact that I thought I had entered a story that already had started.

I seem like to be in the minority with my assessment of this book. I did like it but found all of the names confusing and it took me a while to figure out which character I was following. Executives from a cosmetic company go on a retreat and then start committing suicide. Why you ask? Something must have happened on the retreat right? What did happen was not as shocking as I would hav hoped or thought. Just ok for me.

La trama de la investigación policial está bien construida, con un crescendo del misterio muy logrado, que te hace estar pendiente de lo que se esconde tras un/os crimen/es, si no un grupo de personas vinculados entre sí, con sus diferencias personales y profesionales muy sólidas e interesantes, así como los entresijos interpersonales de la dirección de una empresa. Y una crítica velada al corporativismo dermoestético.
Esta novela, en su vertiente más "noire" habla de la soledad en todos sus aspectos. Una soledad que lo impregna todo, pues habla de ella y que ahonda en estar sólo por obligación: desapariciones, divorcios, matrimonios mal avenidos, separaciones, diferencias entre familiares, enfermedad, secretos personales, soledad social en un entorno nuevo, el vacío que se crea en algunos puestos de trabajo. Una soledad que hiere, menoscaba y puede destrozar una vida. Y todos y cada uno de los personajes están marcados por esa soledad impuesta, que les acompaña en un día a día de tonos grises. Todo ello se puede concentrar en una frase sacada del texto: "el amor genera deudas eternas".
La única pega que tiene el libro es que, a pesar de ser capítulos cortos, la división de capítulos desde la perspectiva de un personaje y la repetición continua de hechos desde diferentes perspectivas, la convierten en una lectura lenta y redundante. Aún y así, un disfrute para los amantes del género policiaco y "noire". Y con un final que obliga a leer la tercera parte, sí o sí.

Ένα πολύ καλό αστυνομικό-ψυχολογικό θρίλερ, που όσο γυρίζεις τις σελίδες η αγωνία κορυφώνεται.
Σφιχτοδουλεμένη πλοκή και χαρακτήρες που δεν κουράζουν μα και αποδίδονται όσο και όπως πρέπει. Ο συγγραφέας κρατά τις ισορροπίες απέναντι σε όλους τους ήρωες του και καταφέρνει να τους φέρει κοντά στον αναγνώστη, χωρίς να υποτιμήσει κανέναν.
Γρήγορη πλοκή, προσεγμένο λεξιλόγιο, εικόνες μιας κοινωνίας που δεν προμηνύει τίποτε καλό, σκοτεινή ατμόσφαιρα και δύο παράλληλες υποθέσεις που απομένει να διαλευκανθούν. Τα ερωτηματικά πολλά, το μυστήριο διάχυτο και το τέλος αναπάντεχο.
Το απόλαυσα πραγματικά!

I started the trilogy by reading the middle one first (this one) and I didn't even know it was part of a bigger series. So I was pretty worried about having missed a point with Ruth Valldaura's case, which I now know I didn't. I thought: "an open end that makes no sense to me. Duh!" Anyway, there's a third part (and a first as well!) I should read, and I've enjoyed this one so much that they are the ones I'm going to get now.

Too many side characters that confuse but not enhance the main mystery. It created a sluggish book. Leire’s investigating Ruth’s disappearance behind Salgado’s back is just far fetched and distracting from the book’s credibility. Clearly setting up for book 3, which apparently hasn’t been translated to English yet.
