I've been on a kick of alien holiday books that thankfully is being supported by recommendations, like this one! And it was exactly the kind of story I was hoping for with some excellent character depth and background, cool alien features, a single mom trying to get by, adorable kid, devoted hero, and lots of feels. Gabriela (h) is a single mom to Ana (who's 9) and while she's doing all she can, she's struggling to get by. Broxen/Mason (H) moved across the street about a year prior and both are attracted to each other, but neither has made the leap before, until Broxen asks her out for hot chocolate. Broxen is an alien who used to be a bodyguard, but is now hiding on Earth after he failed at his job and lost his closest friend. No one knows he's an alien because he has nifty cloaking technology, although it does have limits so he has to be cautious. He also wants Gabriela badly and is suffering from major loneliness while he pines to be part of their family. Unfortunate circumstances lead to an opportunity and this little family comes together beautifully over the holiday. Written in third person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, neither are virgins and both have been celibate for a long time, no bc discussed/used.

All of the characters are fantastic and sweet. Gabriela is a great, caring mom who gets to lean on someone else for a change and be taken care of. She's also so sweet to Broxen and so is Ana, who wants him to be her dad pretty much from the start. Broxen takes them in when they're unable to be in their home following a terrifying event and I felt that fear and anxiety viscerally because I have kids of my own. Both ladies are shaken up, but are also able to embrace what Broxen's offering them. Plus all the ways Broxen showed both Gabby and Ana that he truly adored them made my heart melt.

There are snow ball fights, introductions to Christmas traditions, and more. I loved all the details that were included, although I did feel like some of the story could be trimmed down slightly. This is a slow burn as the relationship is developed and Broxen's secret does come out before things get too physical, which I appreciated. How his planned mate and kit (I loved that he called them this) react was also reasonable, he showed them repeatedly who he was inside so there's no major pulling away once they see his true outside.

While I loved the characters and found the romance well-built, I did wish that the HEA included an epilogue. It's a great ending where you know they're happy and in love and Ana's happy and loved, I just wanted to see them in the future too. Still, this left me with lots of mushy feelings.

4/5 ⭐️

Definitely better than the first book in this series—I can be more positive than saying it "wasn't bad"—but it's weighed down by some of the same issues that plagued its predecessor.

+ Again, this book needed some editing to remove excess, repetitive thoughts that did not need to be hashed out dozens of times. Nothing in this story was complicated or nuanced enough to require revisiting that often. (And unlike TR's usual works, this one had a lot of typos in it. Based on the end note, I'm assuming that's due to illness and feeling rushed to get this out, so it's likely a one-off issue, but I feel the need to point it out anyway.)

+ Maybe we do not need to constantly hear about clenching vajayjays and throbbing/aching/dripping dicks quite so much; there's diminishing returns for this visual. We get it: they horny. Their happy bits want to go play.

But. There are some positives coming up, y'all.

+ This one did feel a bit more like the TR's novels I've come to expect. Mason/Broxen has an interesting backstory—but all of the fixation on the potential danger in it goes NOWHERE, so why bring it up so many times—and I found the relationship he had with his last charge kinda wholesome and intriguing. Actually, I would totally read a short bromance about those two and all of the things they discussed and how they affected each other as people. And I liked that he was written as a huge alpha male who is intellectually curious, loves to read, collects odd things because they intrigue him, was not obsessed with knocking Gabby up, and is genuinely helpful and kind. Unlike the last book, Broxen does not suffer from the Disney Prince Effect, now adapted to SFR/PNR as, the Insta-Love Marshmallow Alpha Effect.

+ Gabby is hard working, family-oriented, and proud, but not stubborn to the point of hurting herself or Ana with it. I would have liked a little more personality from her besides Single Mom, but at least she wasn't a TSTL stereotype or a Carb-Obsessed, Self-Hating Chubby Woman. But seriously, what does Gabby like outside of making her daughter happy or reminiscing about her family through traditions?

+ A believable child who isn't trying so hard to be cute. Ana is a decently written 9 year old—still just baby enough to revel in unicorns, but old enough to joke about sucking tongue or checking out butts around. And that last gift for her? Too sweet.

+ Navel gazing taken out of the equation, the story pacing was pretty good for this one, with enough hurdles and antagonism without relying on melodrama.

So. Better effort than last time and a pretty cute holiday story overall.

It was sweet. Extremely sweet. Single mom who met alien man who literally will do everything for her and her daughter. And on top of that it wasn’t overwhelming with spice. Nice balance.
Phrase about regretting Beast becoming prince in “Beauty and the Beast” was nice

Full disclosure: I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas romances.
So this basically felt like someone took a hallmark movie about a struggling single mom and her neighbor falling in love but changed the neighbor into an sexy alien in disguise. Had a couple of perilous moments, but that’s about it.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: peril, racism

My Rating System

4 stars--would read again

2 stars--read it, but didn't enjoy it
1 star--didn't finish, it was so awful

Do I need to read books before this one: no
Cliffhanger: no

Summary
Single mother Gabriela has been interested in her neighbor Mason since he moved in a year ago. He's kind to her daughter, Ana, and he's attractive. She's late on the rent again, sees a letter from her landlord.

Broxen, aka Mason, sees Gabriela get her mail, goes over. He knows she's tight on money, doesn't know how to offer help. He invites her for hot chocolate, she says yes, then remembers she needs to pick up Ana from school. He invites Anna, too. He watches over them every day. He's from another world where he used to be a bodyguard for a powerful crime family.

The last day of school before Christmas break, Gabriela gets one last emergency cleaning job, which allows her to pay the rent and get some groceries and a gift. She and Ana bake cookies, and Ana takes some to Mason.

When Gabriela's house burns down, Mason helps her rescue Ana, and then he invites them to stay at his house.

Evaluation
An alien that eats ice cream when feeling rejected?! Who reads all kinds of books, including romances? This story started out so interesting, but then didn't deliver. Gabriela and Broxen spend so much time in their heads compared to talking to each other. There's very little conflict--nothing to wrap up when house burns, no communication with parents, no contact with his old world, Gabriela and Ana just accept he's an alien, and with all the changes and she's in her life, Gabriela keeps her emotions in control at Christmas. I kept expecting someone from his home world to find Broxen. He'd fled, so he must be wanted, but that never materialized. Broxen doesn't even get robbed while shopping. Because they don't really talk, we don't even know if she's continuing her job. On the bright side, Ana was well done. She was appropriately focusing on Christmas and thinking kisses are ew.

Recommendation
Those who like paranormal Christmas romances will probably like this, but Roberts has written better stories.

Favorite Quotes
[he'd pulled out a new cartoon of ice cream, and is now putting it away nearly empty] He’d seen this phenomenon in human movies and television shows. The only people who seemed to eat ice cream like this were humans—often female—who had just been broken up with.

Though Gabriela had been born and raised in these mountains, she’d never once considered taking up mountain climbing—but she’d gladly climb Mason Lee.

The [cookie] bear continued to stare up at Broxen, happy despite its companions having been devoured before its very eyes.

[Ana's bedroom] was filled with so many pinks, purples, and blues that you’d think a unicorn had farted in it.

Broxen and Ana chatted—mostly Ana—as they cooked.

He’d rather shovel snow from the driveway all winter—and risk attacks from hungry mountain lions—than deal with this [holiday mall parking] regularly.

If she could accept an alien as her mate, Broxen could brave crowds of Christmas shoppers.

Possible Triggers (spoilers)
Sex: 2 scenes on Christmas Eve; desire, arousal, and fantasizing before that
Language: 4 F words, 16 Lord's name in vain, 4 S words
Violence: fire, bullying, wild animal attack

A very cute holiday read. It was a slow burn, but worth it.

I would actually like to read a prequel with Broxen and his last job. Since this was Earth-based I kind of missed the normal world-building that exists in a Tiffany Roberts novel.

I didn't realize this was a series when I picked this book, so now I'm off to check out the others.

This was sweet and cozy. The chemistry between the mc’s was hot. Tiffany Roberts knows how to write good chemistry. It’s not always in their books, but when it’s there, it sings.

Not a perfect book. Some typos, and there were several times in the first third of the book it was IMM. (Inner Monologue Meatloaf. Meant to sustain, but dry and too much of an effort to chew.) I’ve learned to skim these sections when I’m feeling the romance and chemistry, feeling the dialogue, and just want to get things moving.

This book was written in the middle of both author’s being sick, so I give a lot of leeway because of that. As other reviewers mention, this is better the first book, which I dnf’d at around the 75% point because I stopped caring about the couple.

Don’t get me wrong— I’m a firm fan of TR as a whole. But some of their books are a miss for me. And that’s ok. To me, they still write some of the best paranormal spice scenes out there, filled with not only descriptors that make sense, but also tenderness and mutual pleasuring of both mc’s. I hate one-sided scenes all the time.

I don’t usually enjoy single-mom stories, but the child was written without being overly bratty or unrealistic and unlikeable. (I will mention that Latina moms don’t tend to be so easy-going because I grew up with one but heyyy it’s a fantasy! lol)

An enjoyable sci-fi romance.

I enjoyed this novella in the Aliens Among Us series far more than I did the first full length novel in the series. The plot set up far higher stakes in this one close to the beginning of the novel, so it seized my interest quickly. The first full length novel in this series had low stakes throughout, so I was bored throughout almost the whole novel. It read like a contemporary romantic comedy, which I deeply dislike in most instances because of the lack of high stakes, adventure, or villains. This one had a HAWT alpha hero who embodies my favorite romance novel archetype of the warrior type. This novel had a tight, exciting plot, vivid world building, and a lovely heartwarming theme of found family that was very appropriate for a holiday romance. I am glad I took a risk and read this novella, after my disappointment with the first novel in this series.

This book was wonderful. Sweet and sexy, with a slow burn romance and some really great sex.

Gabriella thought she lost everything when her house burned down one week before Christmas. She even almost lost her daughter when the window wouldn’t open, but she was saved by her next-door neighbor, a hunk of a man who had been helping her in little ways throughout the past year.

Now, in addition to asking her and her daughter out on a hot chocolate date, he’s taken her in and given her a temporary home. Only, he doesn’t want it to be temporary. He’s been in love with her for ages and is just trying to get up the nerve to express his feelings and ask her out, But how will she respond once he tells her that he’s not who she thinks he is. Can she love a giant, horned, red-skinned alien?

I really enjoyed that the book was set in McCall. As a long time resident of Idaho, it’s so fun to read a story that happens in my own backyard. … and that guys tail… naughty!

SPICE 🌶
2/5 (one full 🍋 scene)

Overall this book gave me a Hallmark Christmas movie vibe. Compared to the previous books in the series, this book was pretty tame. There was almost no spice and no specific villain to the story. This book centered mostly around thw topic of found family, which was refreshing after reading the other books. If you're feeling the Christmas spirit and want to read a low spice book, I recommend this ^^

For the series as a whole, I’d say skip the other two books in this series and just read this one. Super cute, the perfect length, and the FMC in this one compared to the others felt like more of an actual person than the other two books. Wild circumstances and insta love aside, “Mason” was also enjoyable and Ana was precious but not overly so. She felt like a reasonable 9 year old and did her thing. Rambling a little, but tldr is if you want a quick Christmas short, this one is a pretty nice read.

Crossing the divide

What an amazing first experience with this author! These characters are fantastic! I love how Mason is so big and buff and unsure of himself, and how only for Gabby and Ana does he let his guard down. The author really made this book an emotional journey and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more stories by this author.

TW: butt stuff
I generally liked this series of aliens finding their soulmates. This one was my least favorite.

Why?
1. Butt stuff is not my jam, especially when it is not agreed upon first.

2. The reveal of the alien (who looks like a demon) was rather pushed aside. Even the 9 year old takes it in stride.

3. I didn’t like how everything was taken away from Gabriela and her daughter, with the whole forced proximity scenario. It left me feeling desperately sad. In reading the afterward written by the author about her own personal experience with a house fire, I understand. But I still don’t like feeling that way.

4. I didn’t like that Broxen asked Gabriela’s daughter to be his daughter without discussing it with mom first. As a mother myself, did not like that at all.

There were things I liked as well, but the other books in this series did a better job overall.

Super cute holiday (alien) romance. Honestly, swap out the alien background, and this would still have been adorable. Also, the shorter length (under 300 pages) was perfect.

This book definitely was a super cute and no stress holiday romance read with a splash of sci-fi thrown in for some fun novelty! ☃️🎄❄️☺️ I was really loving the book so much and highlighted like crazy so many swoony or cute parts like snowball fights and just over the top holiday cuteness. ❄️🎄Like he asked her out for a hot chocolate for a first date. How cute is that? ❄️I especially loved the part where he went to a shopping mall at Christmas time to buy gifts for her and her daughter. So adorable and hilarious! I stayed up a few hours past my bed time one night with this book when I wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t sleep and this book was such a comfort to me. You could totally have swapped the hero with a former human mob boss’ bodyguard but it was a cool difference that piqued my interest and did not play a huge part in the story.☺️

It was such a sweet, over-the-top, romance with a single mom who loses everything and a man who has wanted her for a long time swooping in and saving the day. It is a pure cute fantasy to read about and is not a stressful read at all apart from what happens to her that makes her lose everything in the beginning of the story. It also takes place in Idaho and I thought that was so cool since I have never read a romance novel that did before! It’s a super sweet read and I’m so glad I got to read it before Christmas! 🎄❄️☃️The way the male lead tries so hard to care for and provide for them was just so touching and it made my heart happy! 💕

Non Spoilery Cons: There were some times when I thought that some dialogue/kissing/opening of a particular gift that did not need to occur around or in front of her daughter but I tried to read around it and still enjoy the story.

Spoilers:

Unfortunately I knocked off a star because towards the end there was some things that happened in the bedroom that could have been handled with better communication because unfortunately it kind of put me off and took me out of the story. I’ve read really great love scenes by this author before but this was not among them.

What's better than an Alien Christmas romance story ? One write by some of my favorite authors!

Tiffany Roberts is one of my favorite author duo's . I have yet to read a story that I ha ent fallen in love with and this is no exception. If you want an alien Christmas romance to warm you right down to your toes you need to read this one. You will call head over heels in love with Broxen, Gabriela, and Ana. Broxen, a alien bodyguard binding on earth who just wants a purpose. He finds that purpose when he meets Gabriela and Ana they become his whole world and there is simply nothing he won't do or sacrifice for them. Gabriela and her beautiful daughter And are struggling through some hard times but they have each other and their neighbor who always seems to be looking out for them. When tragedy strikes all three learn what the true meaning of Christmas really is. There is so much love in this book not just the passionate kind but the love of a father and a daughter as well! It's truly a great read. It also had some great funny moments and mentions other books by authors I've read over the years that I've also loved and a mention of how Gabriela loves Beauty and the Beast but truly loved beast more than the human Prince he turns into later. I loved that she said this because this has always been his I felt about that fairytale as well. It's my favorite and has been since I was a little girl but I always loved beast and never understood when he needed to be human. One of the more enjoyable holiday reads out there I highly recommend reading it!💖💖💖🌹🌹💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

I really do not enjoy third person POV. This was somehow worse by being a dual POV on top of that. If this was in first person I think it’d be a lot better. The rest of the writing was fine and had decent enough flow. I wasn’t getting lost in the text or anything like that.

FMC is supposed to be an independent single mom. She is willing to forget all about that though when something literally so insane happens and this man has to swoop in and save her daughter. (And then saves her again) I mean I get swooning for a man who can protect you, but being so willing to roll over and accept this situation when she was so fiercely independent before was a bit weird.

No third act breakup so points for that automatically. No spice until literally the last 20-30mins of the book. It was like the author forgot they were writing a book called “claimed by the alien bodyguard”. Giving it an extra spice rating for the detail in the scene though - 🌶️🌶️

Some of the things the characters said were really cringe and weird. Also the fact this woman was so willing to do some of the things she did in front of her 9 year old daughter is just straight up bizarre to me.

Overall I thought this book was decent enough to finish, but it took me a while because of the POV.

Oh MAN. For a guy who had a rough, somewhat deadly lifestyle before dropping onto earth to hide out, Broxen/Mason was a total sweetheart. The guy might react violently if it's needed to keep Gabriela and Ana safe, but he's a utter sweeeeeeetie to them. Just a complete marshmallow of epic proportions.

And he's reserved enough when he and Gabriela first meet that Gabriela doesn't see his interest. At all. She might like to look at him and she might enjoy their interactions, but she doesn't think someone as gorgeous as him would be interested in a single mom so she keeps things friendly and doesn't let herself dream of anything else. Until Broxen steps up and helps them when they need it most. Then she starts dreaming of all sorts of things.

A little holiday fear followed by a lot of holiday cheer, a somewhat clueless alien trying his hardest to figure out how these holidays work, a couple of steamy kisses, and what ends up being a really REALLY awesome Christmas. I like these aliens and the women who capture their hearts. *thumbs up*
