The Chronicles of Kwan follows the struggle of one young woman for liberty from the shadow of the Coalition of Lightnings. Freedom not just for herself, but for all her fellow serfs in Hillvale demesne.
“I feel a suffocating cloud of dread overcome the tiny group. My aura hovers among the students here in my home. It stands tall against them, a cloud-high column of sunshine and fire that envelops the entire building.
Theatrics? No. Not even a whirlwind of strength and power can save them. The wheels of the rebellion will not be easily slowed. We are too many to be silenced. We will not be stopped... not even by death.”
All my stories and worlds are connected, weird character-driven, maudite poutine, struggles for survival. I lean to characters who can think on their feet or those who can overcome if not.
Most stories are steampunk. A few are UF (Stair Series). The rest, pure sci-fi
Book Description: The Chronicles of Kwan follows the struggle of one young woman for liberty from the shadow of the Coalition of Lightnings. Freedom not just for herself, but for all her fellow serfs in Hillvale demesne.
My Thoughts: This story chronicled the life of a young woman who just wanted to live her life as any normal teen — friends, fun, and boys. However, Kwan was no average teen. She had a very strong gift that others sought to use for their own gain.
This book was a combination of the young adult and urban fantasy genre. The story was a kaleidoscope of elements that merged together to create a somewhat complex and difficult read. But, recognize that this is coming from someone who does not read books in either genre. Although it was a very different read, the story was interesting and reminded me somewhat of the movies UltraViolet,The Running Man, and Minority Report rolled into one. Not that the book borrowed from those movies, quite the contrary. The book contained it's own unique world created by the author. However, the book had touches of the "someone is always watching you" feeling that was shared by those movies. This short novella would be enjoyed by urban fantasy aficionados. I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more with glossary of terms to explain some of the concepts and a bit more world building to explain the society that Kwan lived in.
I received this book from K. Hippolite and “Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock” in exchange for an honest review.
Kwan is a young girl that has a special gift. She is a strong telepath in hiding. There are evil people who buy and sell those with special gifts like Kwan. This is her story to rebellion and her push for change. She makes some great friends along the way. Those friends she chooses to confide in, and they choose to help her out and find their own path to self-discovery as well.
In the first novella of the Chronicles of Kwan, the foundation is put together for us. We learn of Kwan and other important characters are introduced. We get a sneak peak of her telepath and just how powerful she might be. We also get a feel for her leadership qualities. She’s curious, sweet, smart, and a very likable character.
The writing style was strange to get used to at first. Once I got over that, it was easy to get lost in the tale. The storyline is a very unique one, and Hippolite does a good job of describing the telepathic encounters. Although it ended abruptly, it was a solid start to the chronicles, and did a great job of intriguing readers.
Kwan was an easy 4 fang read that is suitable for all ages.
I won this book here on goodreads from the firstreads program. I imagined it to be a larger book then it was, however I did enjoy the story. I rate this book 3 stars as I think it could have been more detailed. The book is a very fast read, but I did read it twice lol. The story is about a girl struggling to fit in, but it's impossible as Kwan is not your average teen:) I don't want to get to detailed as this book is a short read and those who are interested in reading it shouldn't be spoiled even a little. I think the book is worth reading, and I am looking forward to starting the second book in the series tomorrow. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes YA fantasy books:)
I thought Kwan was a really interesting read. the idea behind all these people with special abilities is intriguing. I like Kwan's character. She is very brave and confident. I wish the story was a bit longer. I would have liked the definitions of things within the reading instead of a glossary in the back. I did enjoy reading Kwan a lot though.
I thought this book was nice. It was smaller than I thought it would be, so it ended up being a fast read. It could have been more detailed (if it was, I likely would have rated it higher) and a bit longer. Other than that, I liked it.
