Taming Your Pet Monster was a very short instructional guide on...well, on how to tame your pet monster.

(The short of it is that really, you can't. It's a monster. The best you can do is distract it with work, so that it won't get in your way. Which makes me question why anyone would want one as a pet in the first place - they don't even do the work they're assigned properly. Just pests all around, really.)

The pictures were pretty cute, but the humor is definitely more aimed at children, who still think that calling something "stinky" is hilarious.

The "book" itself is really less than half the total length - the last 60% or so are various advertisements and descriptions of other books in the series.

I’ve read and enjoyed a number of Scott Gordon’s books; but Taming Your Pet Monster: An Operational Guide is so hilarious, it had me laughing out loud and reading passages to my husband. It’s written like a real operational guide for "your Terrahymeno Pet Monster." Every page has a wonderful picture, most with hilarious commentary pointing to specific things on the page. For example, on a page that warns against taking pet monsters to birthday parties, there’s a note that says: "Danger! Do not attempt to separate the monster from the cake by yourself." This is one of those books that will have young children (and their parents) giggling out loud. Kids will even find some of their own behaviors in the silly monsters: refusing to go to sleep, painting on any and all available surfaces, refusing to bathe. It’s great to laugh about these things!

Mikey's Review:

This was a really funny book with lots of colors, especially my favorite color, green in it. I liked the picture of the explosion a lot. It was neat how it made you think you could really buy a pet monster.
I did have trouble with some of the words and I wasn't sure what some of them meant. I am glad I had my mom reading it to me and my baby brother so she could explain some of the definitions to us.
But this book really made me laugh a lot and I almost wish I could order my very own TP-6 monster.

Cute little picture book about owning a pet monster. I enjoyed the pictures of the monsters more than the writing. The idea of a pet monster with an operational guide was a funny topic so I thought for free on amazon I could check it out. Course at the time I read it I didn't own the kindle fire and read it on the computer, but I'm sure kindle fire owners would be able to appreciate the full color photos throughout the book more than the regular kindle readers. Which is why I'm glad I opted to read this on my computer.

Scott Gordon's 'Taming Your Pet Monster: An Operational Guide' is funny, but I don't think the humor is appropriate, or even comprehensible, to really young readers. In addition, the illustrations in some cases could have your tyke insisting on a closet/under the bed inspection and a night light. This is a book that could be a real rib tickler for kids 8 and up, but I wouldn't recommend it for preschoolers.

A great read for all ages.

I found it quite entertaining. This describes a lot of the many moods and behaviors of my own children. I think it is great for a bed time story if you read before bed. Everyone can read this, it is early reader friendly. Children might not get what parents find funny. They can still enjoy it.

Review by my 5 year old

My favorite part was the one with the secret lab. I like that because it made an explosion and I'd never seen exploded before. Monsters are not my favorite but I do like active gorillas. There were no active gorillas in this book but it's still okay.

This is a rather funny Scott Gordon book that is supposed to be an operational guide to a particular type of monster. Apparently, the monster is evil and you can't do much of anything with it without it going crazy. But it is kind of cute and I loved the annotations to each illustration.

This book was so funny! I was giggling all the way through it. The monster is really cute (even though the book tries to convince you it isn't). Kids will like this one... parents too!
