War of Gods #4

The Grey God

Rate this book
BOOK FOUR in the War of Gods series. The Grey God Darian can’t quite shake off the dark streak remaining after the thousands of years he spent enslaved by evil – or the memory of how the only woman he loved betrayed him. When given a second chance at life and love, Darian struggles to leave his past behind, before it destroys his future. The warrior destined to become his mate, Jenn, is accustomed to fighting – and defeating – dangerous men. But Darian isn’t just another powerful man, he’s immune to her mind reading talent and completely unpredictable, a trait sure to get anyone near him killed. Jenn feels trapped between the wild god and his enemies, who learn her fate long before Darian does. Rather than embrace her destiny at his side, Jenn defies it in an attempt to protect him and her own heart.

I breathe stories. I dream them. If it were possible, I'd eat them, too. (I'm pretty sure they'd taste like cotton candy.) I can't escape them - they're everywhere! Which is why I write! I was born to bring the crazy worlds and people in my mind to life, and I love sharing them with as many people as I can.

I'm also the bestselling, award winning, internationally acclaimed author of over sixty titles and counting. I write speculative fiction in multiple subgenres of romance and fantasy, contemporary fiction, books for both teens and adults, and just about anything else I feel like writing. If I can imagine it, I can write it!

This is the last book in the War of the Gods series for Ford, and it may be the strongest book of the four. Through the ascension of Darian (now the Grey God) we get a much better glimpse of the world created by Ford for the series. We learn more about the schism and how the mortal and immortal world connect. Between the glimpses of the past and the rich character that Darian becomes, the series comes to a very satisfying conclusion. This is not a typical paranormal romance. Ford definitely spins her PNR more toward the sci-fi side than the romance side, but strength of the main protagonists (Darian and Jen) in this book do not disappoint.

This is the fourth installment of the series. It's about Darian, Damian's older brother who was once thought dead. It's about the struggles of finding and accepting his mate and reinventing himself. I liked this installment as much as I did "Damian's Oracle". There's so much chemistry between Jenn and Darian, he wants to be with her and she doesn't know what she wants, but I think she enjoys teasing him.
"Xander taught me how to use my body."
Darian's gaze flew up to her face. "He did what?"
With Darian hving trust issues from a previous relationship it's hard for him to sometimes accept Jenn but he gives it a shot, but Jenn has the same issues just in a different matter there are some parts where I think she doesn't even want to give it a shot as it scares her. "Yes, really. I'm not some source you're obligated to sleep with. You have a few things to learn about a healthy relationship," he said. "Though I'll admit. I'm really curious for you to teach me a few things, since you've been with so many men. Like thousands, right?" I also love the back and forth banter between them, personally I think it's that aspect that helps them overcome obstacles together.
"Not quite, to quote an Original being, f**k you."
"That better be an invitation," he replied.
Jenn met his gaze again, furious. "Let me clarify. Go f**k yourself."
I can't wait for Xander's story to come out (Lizzy always teases me on what she's working on and I'm excited to see what happens next)

The Grey God was a great finish to the War of Gods series by Lizzy Ford. Lizzy's writing style is smart, funny, and entertaining. In this installment, we follow along with Darian as he has to come into his own and become who he is destined to be! All of our favorite characters are alongside him in his journey as everyone is racing against time to save the family they have found in each other. I am sad to see this story come to an end . . .but was excited to see Lizzy will be releasing a follow up series "The Originals." I can't wait to see what she has in store for us!

I’ve read this whole series and I love it! I like all the Characters even the bad guys and Damian and Darian are my favorites. The first book and last book were the most emotional for me. I’m ready to read the first book again! This series is definitely being added to my To Read Again list:).

A great finale to the War of Gods series, "The Grey God" does not disappoint. I am very sad to see the series end and only wish that more of the 'after story' was included. Lizzy Ford's writing is always full of excitement, suspense and romance. This book was no different. Darian has been one of my favorite characters in this series since his return. It was interesting to read his and Jenn's backstory - it answered a lot of questions.
I look forward to reading the Original Series. Not really sure if I like it beginning with Xander or not. Hi story may be quite intriguing.

Fantastic culmination of a fresh and imaginative series. I enjoyed finally being able to piece all the characters/life forms and worlds come together. Lizzy Ford is one of the best a creating worlds and making the fell real. There seems to be room for spinoffs of this series and I look forward to following future of the world!!

Best written book of the series, by far. Can see author's progression and growth. Story line has always been original and intriguing but writing style was a bit lacking. Now over that hurdle. Great climax from all the build up from the last 3 books. Enjoyed this read!

The finale to the War of the Gods series definitely did not disappoint. Darian has come such a long way from his fall as the White God, to living as a slave of the Black God, then to his rightful role as the Grey God. He's overcome betrayal, abuse, and torture and become a stronger man because of his past. It's so amazing that Jenn finally realized how special he is. Jenn ran away from her past and pushed away anyone and anything that would make her "feel" again. It's easier for her to be a super spy with no emotions than to let her guard down and experience love. I also like that thier's is a love that grew and wasn't instantaneous. It's based on trust, loyalty, and passion. Both of these characters deserve their happy ending.

This book makes Darian choose between the mortal and immortal worlds. His brothers were captured so they cannot help him make the difficult decision. Luckily, their capable and strong mates are there to help. Sophi guides them all along the way, Bianca heals and saves them when needed, Yully helps Darian close the portal between the worlds, and Jenn is there to fight along side him until the end.

I'm sad to see this series end but it did solidify the fact that I love Lizzy Ford. She's one of those authors whose books I will purchase and read without ever reading the synopsis. I know she works magic with the written word and I cannot wait to see what else she has in store.

This book is by far my favorite of the series and deserves 6 stars!! I absolutely adore Darian and I have since his first appearance in the series. I enjoyed seeing the transition in him while also getting to know more about Jenn. She is one that I always thought had more to her than what meets the eye. I really loved the story that transpired in this book and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Thanks Lizzy for another great book. You create such a wonderful world in your books and I can't wait to go on your next adventure. :)

The final showdown is here and this is where the Grey God steps up to the plate. I can't give too much away each and every character in the book has their role to play and the ending was spectacular. I loved Jenn and she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. You can't avoid fate especially when the Oracle has seen it. Xander one of the Original Beings and well I found him intriguing in the third installment but with this book I'm not too sure and all. He has his own book so we'll see if there is something good about him.

A wonderful finale to a wonderful series. I just loved going through the lives of all these wonderful characters and how all the previous books led to this finale. Everything tied in so well together and all the mates from the prior three books had some part to play in this book. I can't wait to read future novelettes in this series and all other books by the author. Lizzy Ford is a favorite author! :)

As a fan of fantasy I was drawn to this book by it's cover. The story kept me reading. I have to admit I've come into this series in the middle so I've got some catching up to do. The main character is a young mother who loses everything just as she begins to turn her life around. The story is compelling and exciting with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Worth the read.

*sigh* What can I say. I think I fell in love with Darian from the get go. Such a lost soul. And then when he was rescued and acted like a teenager I laughed so hard. He now has that warped sense of humor you can't help but love.

Darien's fascination with Jenn

The interaction between Darien & Jenn was sort of complicated, while Darien knew how he felt it took Jenn longer to get there. Jenn was still living with what happened to her first family, especially her 2 yr old daughter, she was just too scared to get involved in another relationship.

LOVED this one! This one was my favorite in the series!

Darian the Grey God finally finds himself. He has better control of his powers and he’s just amazing in this book. I like that we find out more about the whole backstory to the Immortal world in this book and what happened. Also, theres more Xander who still may not be my favorite character but like The Others and The Watchers he intrigues me.
When we met Darian he was betrayed by the first woman he loved and was thought to be dead but was in fact enslaved by the previous Black God. Throught out the series he had a long way to come back from being broken and it was great to read about his transformation a little at a time in each book. He’s definitely the best male character of the series in my opinion. Even through all the horrible stuff he has been through he has a great sense of humor about it and probably the sweetest disposition out of them all. Yet! he can still kick some serious butt! Of course he deserves an amazing “mate” and Jenn is definitely it. She’s Dusty’s spy and is working with the Black God to figure out what vampires are betraying him. She had a sad past in the immortal world before the Schism happened and it makes it hard for her to love someone especially if there is a chance she might lose them or hurt them. Jenn uses her mind control and her body to get close to her targets, she’s great at hand to hand combat and she has a soft spot for people who need help and who can possibly be saved from their dark selves. The flirtatious banter between them was great. And I like when Darian started giving it back to her. These two were the best couple in this series.

The story was great! The characters had to make tough choices and the fight scenes really brought out the kick butt side of Darian, Jenn, Charles and Yully. Also, there were still plenty scenes to make me giggle. It leaves you hanging on Xander and I want to know what happens with The Others and The Watchers. Also, what about Charles and Johnny ( The Black God)?

An awesome ending to a great series! Action packed, page turning, funny, paranormal romance. I do believe I’ll be picking up the spin off to read next..

I decided to downgrade the whole series to an average of 2-stars, because I am mean and I am feeling as disappointed as when I open my freezer and there's no more strawberry-ice-cream. What a crappy ending! What a crappy ending to a series that could have been so freaking good I would have forgotten about the lack of strawberry-ice-cream in my household. Didn't happen, though, and I am still mad as hell about the ice-cream.

As said, I like the concept, the idea of an alternative mythology but, turns out, this was just a let-down of major proportions. I still do not understand a thing about the story-line, aside from the general lines. I usually never ever say this, because it goes against my believe that everything deserves reading, but: what a waste of time!

This just didn't do it for me, and let it be said, it doesn't take much for me...

The whole mate-thing, aside from the first couple - Damian & Sofi - seemed just too convenient. The guys "mated" with these "destined" girls because they would come in handy to save the world. There seldom was an affinity between the involved parties-to-be-mated. And they all are so reluctant - there has to be a reason for that... That's it.

Bright side: I am intrigued by Xander, and I will probably read his book.

I am not giving up on this author. Just because I did not like a series doesn't mean I won't enjoy any of her other writing.

Still, can't shake the disappointment...

The Grey God Darian can't quite shake off the dark streak remaining after the thousands of years he spent enslaved by evil - or the memory of how the only woman he loved betrayed him.

The warrior destined to become his mate, Jenn, is accustomed to fighting - and defeating - dangerous men.

I love these books. It's fun watching the changes Darian makes through out the books. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. You knew something big was going on but you weren't sure what. It was interesting that both Darian and Johnny were going through the same struggles but on opposite sides. Darian though has a little bit of a middle ground. I enjoyed the humor and the parts that were serious. It's fun watching all the characters get where they are supposed to be. Others and Watchers are freaking annoying though. I wonder if they had not interfered with what they had if everything wouldn't be as bad as it is.
This book has great twist, another mate, adventure, action, humor, and all around great plot.

As sad as I an that the books have to come to an end it was an end I sas happy with. Over the three books before this one i grew to love everyone. I was happy to ses how much Darian grew into his place as the Gray god. It was good book that showed the readers that to be able to deal with the future you have to come to peace with the past. I gave this book four stars only because I wish it would of been longer. With that said I cant wait to start Xanders choice. hope there is still some of the old crew in the new books.

So many different agendas are in this book...
While we focus on Darian and his amazing recovery after having his whole life cut to pieces.... we also see more about Jenn... who is a Guardian but she carries a lot of guilt as well.
How there are people hovering around trying to get an advantage for their side.... and amongst them all .... we are left completely in the dark about Xander.... who tries to be a bad guy but fails....
Loved everything about this boxed set.

I enjoyed this 4 book series. I love how we were introduced to a new brother(adopted or natural) in each book and still visit with the last books characters. We meet new ones in each book and continue the journy of the previous ones as well. Yes, there were errors, but for me it was easy to overlook to enjoy the story of the fantastical world and its characters. Wanted a little more detail to their romance, but that's just me. I could get through it without it and didn't miss it (too much) - I just craved it - if that makes sense. Guess I've been reading too much smut lately! LOL

Love it! This may be the last installment of this series, but the author has left the stories open since the Watchers and Others have not been fully vanished from the mortal realm and the Black God has just learned the extent of his power. Chaos still reign in the air. The one thing I like most about the entire series is the emphasis on family values...respect and love to one another even if the main characters possess supreme power. I like the continuous flow of the story as well, and how it is written. I wish for the author to reconsider in continuing this series.

These are all easy reads, interesting plots and fairly formulaic romances - having said that I really didn't feel the romance in this book. I also felt I was missing something in the dialogue between the couple and all the angst. To me the male character's motivation appeared odd. He can read her mind but forces her to say things she doesn't want to say - it smacked of bullying and manipulative behaviour.
