Rate this book
What would you do if you were witness to a crime or saw someone who needed help? Spokane, Washington has its share of crime, but nowhere near the same level as larger cities. Suddenly, people are being attacked by crazed maniacs who are trying to eat their victims. Making matters worse, the good Samaritans who try to help, receive the same fate for their good deeds by the very people they were trying to save.
In the middle of all the carnage Nick and his dad are out shopping for a birthday present for his sister. While they are trying to figure out what’s happening, people are dying all around them. The problem is the dead aren’t staying that way. Some people reach out to one other to survive the collapse of everything they know, others,on the other hand, thrive in the chaos. Who will survive the infection?

Once again, I find myself in the position of having to comment on editing. Mispelled words, missing words, misused words and a continuity error were unfortunately what occurred due to the lack of editing.

However, I do have to say that the story is a great effort on the author's part. The story was descriptive and it was easy to get pulled right into the story.

I did have a couple of disappointments aside from the editing, though. First, although many of the characters were at least likeable in passing, I felt there were way too many characters introduced. The problem with that is that, with so many characters, not all can be serviced as they deserve to be, causing me to not really spend enough time with them and really connect with them and grow to care for them. Second, many of the characters had similar names, or at least names that began with the same letter causing some confusion at times: Elisa, Lisa, 2 Jacks, John, Jake, Jeanette, Jesse, Jared, etc. Third, although I did enjoy the basic story, almost all of the danger and/or tragedy happens either to characters who have just been introduced to the story or characters that were introduced solely to be killed. Therefore, I was never worried about any of my more favored characters. They were too safe at all times.

Overall, I have to say, this author has potential and I would like to see her make another attempt.

The hardest part of reviewing is writing a negative review. "Surviving the infection" by Cristin Henry might be geared towards a younger audience, but it does not excuse the lack of editing. Unfamiliar with the author's work, I am always looking for a new and fresh voice. The truth is, I believe this author could be better with an editor.

There seemed to be a need by this author to overload in adjectives. The story moves it fits and jerks and does not really allow the reader to connect with any of the characters. Several strands of dialog are crammed into single paragraphs and the list could go on. I hope the writer uses this as a learning experience.

I can not recommend this book.

Wow. The break-neck pace of this book is astounding. Action and more action.

Every time a new character was introduced, and there were a lot of them, you didn't know if they would be gone after 2 pages, 3 pages, or last *maybe* a little longer.
