Himanshi Shelat is a significant name in the post-modern Gujarati short story. After having done a doctorate on Naipaul, she served as a Professor of English from 1968 to 1994 at Surat after which she concentrated on her constructive work for the social uplift. Platform Number Chaar, the memories of her work among the urchins loitering and living at Surat railway station, won her the prestigious Nanjangudu Theerumalamba Award among others.
This book made it straight to my favorite list. It has received the Sahitya Akademy Award and it totally deserves it. Heartwarming and soul stirring stories that every Gujarati reader will love. Must read!
