Jack started reading grown up books at the age of seven and has averaged four a week ever since. Not surprisingly, he dreamed of becoming a writer himself but life got in the way and he finished up working in the computer industry for thirty years, the last ten years of it running his own company. When they finally started making computers that worked properly, Jack lost interest and sold his business. He became a teacher and taught at schools around the world, including the Lake District, Egypt and Hong Kong, before taking early retirement to follow his childhood dream and become a writer.

This book is better than the first one. I loved the Joon in his first book, nice aliens despite wanting to destroy the earth, but his Rakan are really cool - talk about nasty! The book follows a similar format to the first one and has a similar finish but once again Jack leads you into a predictable ending and then turns it on its head. Can't wait for book three.

An excellent sequel that is even better than its predecessor. The author has a gift for crafting aliens and the Rakan are a masterpiece of nastiness. The rise of the Rakan master of destiny is a well crafted tale of intrigue and deception that has more twists than a basket of snakes. The human storyline follows a similar plot to the first book but on a much bigger canvas and this time we get to win, sort of. This series ain’t nothing like I’ve ever read before and I can’t wait for the next book.

A great follow on. The author really brings his aliens to life and he introduces the Rakan in this book. Like the Joon, they're close enough to us to be understandable, but weird enough to be interesting and the Rakan just keep getting weirder. The story follows a similar plot to the last one but painted on a bigger canvas. Most of the questions raised in the last book are answered but, as you would expect, they just raise more question. The scope of this book is amazing and the technology brilliant and, as in the last book, the author explains his technology. I'm not a physicist but his explanations actually sound reasonable. The old gang are back from book one and even more entertaining and the ending is just as stunning but I'm not sure what's left to blow up in book three. Another great book and well worth five stars.

Hammer of Fate is the sequel to Anvil of Time and focuses a lot more on the Rakan, a fierce and animal-like species of aliens. The intricate details of Rakan society are one of the best bits of this book. A very well thought out and fascinating species. A lot of the unanswered questions from the first book are answered and the relationship between the Joon, Rakan and Humans becomes a bit clearer. The jumping between timelines is easier to follow in this book than the first one. Overall a very good read. Better than the first book hence five stars. Recommended.
