A short story: The threads that tie home together grow thin with time, becoming easily breakable. Yet some still manage to take strength from their roots.
I guess that is the beauty of this short story. The author doesn't really tell us. He leaves that to us to imagine and conclude on our own. Jeff Howe provides a very thought provoking look at the view from the perspective of a "golden-ager". As a bit of a "silver-ager" myself, I find the story and the issue that it raises to be interesting to consider.
It is fun to read a story from an author that you really enjoy. It is altogether more interesting when you know the author personally. Jeff Howe and I attended the same college many years ago. We had many classes together. And we shared the stage together many times in musical and dramatic or comedy performances. He was immensely talented back then, and it is impressive to see how he has developed the talents that he has been given to bring joy to many people.
