About the author

(Malayalam: പി. പത്മരാജന്‍; 23 May 1946 – 24 January 1991) was an Indian author, screenwriter, and film director who was known for his landmark works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. Padmarajan was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam, along with Bharathan, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed.

Padmarajan was noted for his fine and detailed screenwriting and expressive direction style. Padmarajan made some of the landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema, including masterpieces like Oridathoru Phayalvaan (1981), Koodevide (1983), Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil (1986), Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986), Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Moonnam Pakkam (1988), Innale (1989) and Njan Gandharvan (1991).

പപ്പേട്ടന്റെ ഒന്നിനൊന്നു മെച്ചപ്പെട്ട കഥകൾ. വായിച്ച് തീർന്നപ്പോൾ പക്ഷേ എന്നെ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് പേരിലെ വിരോധാഭാസമാണ്. സുവർണ്ണകഥകളിൽ മിക്കതിലും തങ്ങി നിൽക്കുന്നത് ഇരുണ്ട മരണമാണ്.

പുസ്തകത്തിന് വേണ്ടി കഥകൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൻ അനന്തപത്മനാഭൻ അഭിനന്ദനമർഹിക്കുന്നു.

ശൂർപ്പണഖ - കഥ വായിച്ച് തീർന്നപ്പോൾ വലത് നെഞ്ചിൽ ഒരു കത്തി ഇറങ്ങിയ നീറ്റൽ.

തന്മാത്ര എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ മൂലകഥ, 'ഓർമ്മ' ഇതിലുൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വായിച്ചപ്പോൾ ബ്ലെസി ആ കഥയോട് ചെയ്തത് ഒരു അപരാധമാണെന്ന് തോന്നിപ്പോകുന്നു.

A nice collection of short stories. The story ORU PURUSHAN, ORU STHREE is a bit disturbing to read, guys beware :) the ending of that story stuck with me couple of days.

Lola!!!? What a love story!!!! I think Padmarajan has that something that bores into your heart and make it bleed... But not all the stories were as appealing... Waiting to read his collection titled Lola all love stories....

കേരളത്തിൻ്റെ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലെ വയലുകളും വീടുകളും കുളങ്ങളും മാത്രമല്ല, മണ്ണും മഴയും മരവും പോലും ഇഴപിരിച്ച് കൃത്യതയോടെയുള്ള വിവരണം പപ്പേട്ടൻ്റെ പ്രത്യേകത ആണെന്ന് തോന്നി.

മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത കൂടി ഉണ്ട്.
അതോ ഇനി എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയതാണോ?
എല്ലാ കഥകളും ഒടുവിൽ ചെന്നവസാനിക്കുന്ന വിഷാദ ഭാവം.
പിന്നീട് ചിന്തിച്ചപ്പോൾ തോന്നി,
ശുഭാവസാനം എന്നൊന്നില്ല, അത് കാല്പനിക കഥകൾക്ക് മാത്രമുള്ളതാണ്.
പദ്മരാജൻ്റെ കഥകൾ കാല്പനികമല്ലല്ലോ?

Brilliant Collection of Stories by Padmarajan. Each story in this collection has a unique set of characters and story line. Some are poignantly touching while some others are amusingly witty and hilarious.

A must read for anyone who wish to taste the magic of Padmarajan..!

Much like his movies, most stories were good, some were amazing and will probably stay with you for a very long time.
