In 1887, history changed course. A new Plague turned the infected into flesh-eating monsters and bound the population to overcrowded cities. The rapid advance in technology creates opportunities for the rich, but also helps to spread new social ideas which challenge traditional Victorian morality.
In July of 1893, James Hurst, a perfect English gentleman, had retrieved a treasure that would secure the financial future of his family, got scarred by a zombie and lost his virginity to Ira Russell, the treasure hunter he hired. It seemed to be a match made in heaven but back in London, the harsh reality of having a wife and child came crashing into his new found infatuation.
A month later, James’ life has returned to normal, but the recent past is there to haunt him. His newly acquired wealth makes him very interesting to a lady he works with but her agenda might be more political than financial. She seems to support a new mysterious cult – The Witnesses of the Apocalypse.
James and Ira meet again in the most unlikely circumstances and this time, it isn’t as easy to let go. Deciding to risk it all, James finds Ira’s house, but who is the beautiful young man who greets him at the door?

In their books you can dip your toe into dangerous romance with mafiosi, outlaw bikers and bad boys, all from the safety of your sofa. They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and in fiction. Their stories don’t shy away from exploring the darker side of M/M romance, and feature a variety of anti-heroes, rebels, misfits, and underdogs who go against the grain. Be prepared for shocking twists, dark humor, raw emotions, and sizzling hot scenes.

I liked it even more that July (Scavengers #1). There was more world-building and the budding relationship between Ira and James is smoking hot and kinky - absolutely yummy!
I’m a fan of KA Merikan’s writing. I really enjoy their creative story-lines and their characters are always unique and very interesting. Throw in some action and hot sex and I’m a very happy reader!
It’s been about a month since Ira and James has parted ways. James should be living the high life, but instead he can’t get Ira out of his mind. He and Ira had fought for their lives and the forbidden, shared, intimate moments between them lives in the forefront of James’ mind. But because James believed the relationship they have together is ‘sinful’ he wanted to keep Ira at definite arms-length, they bitterly broke up, leaving James confused and longing for more. When James notices Ira at the University working to make at making the zombie immobilized, he finds he can’t stop himself from going to him and trying to rekindle the relationship he thought he’d lost forever.
At first, Ira is thrilled when James comes to him, but he soon realizes his ‘boy’ has changed, and he knows it not for the better. James has apparently given into the prejudices of his class and although Ira loves James, he doesn’t want anything to do with him and his apparent backward way of thinking. Will these two lovers ever find their way back together or will misunderstandings and prejudices keep them apart forever?
What I really like about this couple is the fact that they are so different. They both come from totally opposite backgrounds and although they probably shouldn’t connect the way they do, they seem to fit together. I also like how Ira shows James that his ‘noble’ ways and way of thinking isn’t always the right one. There is plenty of heat and the attachment these two men have together keeps this reader fascinated with their relationship.
There is a definite cliffhanger to the ending and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Scavengers: August is the second book in the Scavengers series. I Highly recommend reading the first book in the series before tackling this one. There is a lot that goes on and it will help you understand the dynamics between the two heroes.
Scavengers: August is a great addition to the Scavengers series. If you are looking for a creative, thought-provoking and sexy read, this is definitely the series for you!
The Scavengers series in book order are:
Scavengers: July Scavengers: August Scavengers: September
I am surprised by how much I am enjoying this series. There is nothing gripping about the plot and there really isn’t anything fantastic going on but it is freaking entertaining.
It’s one month later and James Hurst is living it up as a wealthy aristocrat after retrieving the treasure from his family home. He could not have landed the treasure without the help of ex-sailor turned treasure hunter (and other things) Ira Russell. The men shared a sexy interlude, and James then found himself being bent over and being called Boy. Experience with a man is something he had longed for, but of course its immoral and wrong and all that.
Now, James has not seen Ira in a month and he’s longing for him after his body had such a wonderful taste of carnal delights. Because of his newfound wealth, James has to be out doing important things, and he’s garnered unwanted attention. However, being important has led him right back to Ira, and now that he has him back, he’s sure that he won’t be able to give him up.
With all this romance and feeling going on, the reader never forgets that there are zombies and crazy people. There’s always crazies driven by some god to do some crazy and try to justify it (sorta sounds like the life we live in now). There is a bit of drama thrown in to keep the story from being completely pointless. I like it for the man love >.< I love the whole “I want you but I shouldn’t, and this so wrong I’m gonna burn in hell” Makes for good reading.
I am all in to see what happens in Scavengers: September, some drama is about to unfold and I can’t wait to read it. Bring it on!
Another great instalment in this zombie steampunk romance. Ira and James couldn't come from more different backgrounds but it doesn't stop them from continuing with their passionate affair when they come across each other in London a month after they parted company.
Why is there so much sex? Argh ;) For some my complaint might be actually a feature... But I'm usually just not an erotic romance reader, especially in the MM category. But with that said I thought the sex scenes were well written - it's just that the world and the plot were so interesting I wanted to know more about that already. The erotic elements are nicely woven into the plot, so don't expect a quick romp here.
So why did I even read this book? Well, two words - steampunk & zombies. And it's not just a symbolic backdrop element dropped once to mask a modern setting. There is definitely plenty of research done into the era, and the writing does take you back in time. And then a bit sideways with the zombie apocalypse. As this is the second part in a series, there are less zombies than in the first book. Will be looking forward to the final instalment.
Very good episode in the series. I wish a little more zombie action, but on the other end there was plenty good action in the bedroom. I have to say the cliffhanger is very, very good this time around and completely took me by surprise. Looking forward to the next installment which I'll start in, oh, 5 minutes?
It is a very fine story, realistic and hot. At the same time scenes with zombies are really scary for me, but oddly it is adding a pinch of excitement of another level. So, on the whole this story is worth reading. Thank you for your work :)
I want to know more about the world. There are some interesting glimpses of zombie science, the religious movement, the Joners walk, but they are just so short and not really elaborate. Why bother with an interesting, unusual setting, if it's barely explored?
Most of the book was spent between James and Ira arguing, it seemed, and the whole push and pull was pretty annoying to me. I can understand why Ira was angry at James and I can even understand James opinions, and he was trying, but I just wanted them to be done with it. In the end, nothing of it mattered anyway, since they never really resolved their differences so much as said "Fuck it, lets fuck instead". The sex scenes are pretty hot, though, and I like Ira and James together, I just wish the books where a little less disjointed.
A continuation of the relationship between James and Ira that began with a perilous journey to James' country home. Now they're back in the city and James runs in to Ira and sparks fly. Caught in a mob they escape to an abandoned house; only to realize they're being spied on from the building across the way. I'm interested in what happens next.
I am so terribly disappointed by this second episode in a series that had so much potential: it was well thought of, original, with interesting character interaction.
Unfortunately what in the first episode was a wonderfully tight plot with sparkling dialogues between two very interesting leads becomes here very relaxed, very polite, very tame. It is not awful but, beside obvious mistakes/inconsistencies, it slacks off and offers no narrative tension at all.
Not being exactly cheap, I feel hardly motivated to go on reading.
