Interesting beginning but it needs more fleshing out. I'm a fan of Yaoi so I'm a bit biased but I see some potential here.

Thoros is lonely and wants a mate. Dusty was mistakenly enthralled by Thoros but then left for 15 years. He's now part of the Vampire Poison who wants to defeat the vampires.

I just seem to be in the mood for new things today, what with my first comic book on Kindle and now my first Manga, ever.

Well, I liked it to start with but serials always seem to end a little suddenly and this did but not before I'd sort of started to lose interest. Maybe I was expecting more from their bond or just a little something else...

I don't know if it was the manga or just this freebie that I didn't gel with but I wouldn't mind trying more.

I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I've read the beginning of several of Abraham's stories now and I have the exact same response to all of them. I always get sucked in by the manga-like covers (this, like the others, is not manga or yaoi BTW) and enjoy the writing and characters but HATE the serialization. This is not a complete anything, not a complete story, not a complete chapter. It's barely a start and I'm not about to pay, what ends up an exorbitant amount, to finish it. Even having said all that, this is not my favorite of their works.

I really liked this book, but the ending just dropped off. I guess you could call it a cliff-hanger, but when a vampire and the other person is being burnt out of the sky, breaks through a church steeple and fall through the floor and end it...well I just thought there could be a better way to end it. Other than that it's got me hooked to see what else will happen.

Sexy read

So far I'm loving it, and I'm intrigued with the love hate going on in here. Onwards to the next!

Thalos is the oldest vampire in the world and has moved away from killing humans or even hurting humans. We start out with him trying ot save a little boys life, but mistaking the son of the vampire hunters for the boy he is supposed to save. Dusty Holbrook is then removed from the orphanage where they met and is out of the picture for all.

Thalos has a problem with a vampire who is known for his expensive killing spree. The vampire hunters decided to get Thalos to help them kill that vampire and him goes along because he still remembers the boy he thought he was saving but actually put under his spell.

The is the first of several in a series and in this one it stopped with Johann, the out of control violene vampire having captured both Thalos and Dusty after having killed their two vampire hunter companions.

I recommend this because as everybody knows by now I love stories about vampires and it is a short read that look about an hour at most.

not sure how this ended up on my TBR pile, but it says smashwords inside, so maybe I grabbed during one of their sales.

I'm trying to thin out my TBR using the "if it doesn't grab me by the first chapter it's gone" method, and this one didn't make it past the first paragraph. Not recommended for anyone who likes words.

Boring and badly written

The story idea is interesting, cliche, but interesting. But the passing is odd, the descriptions and scenes are boring. The conversations sound forced and fake. It was a task to pull through the pages. Definitely not keeping it or buying the next one.

Eh

It isn't bad I do love the vampires but a couple of choices just didn't work for me. I might pick up the next one in the series.

Dubious Consent is all over this so if that's a hard no for you best just to skip this series.

Honestly, this was just badly written and the plot didn't really excited me much. I was trying to expand the list of LGBT fiction authors I read from, but this just didn’t work for me.

When you're the world's oldest vampire life can be pretty neat, in fact it can go on for as long as you want it to, and for Thalos, he's had a good run of tasting the best guys out there, but when he performs a blood ritual with the wrong guy, it all turns nasty once he finds out his intended victim is Dusty and he's someone he shouldn't have run into as he's the son of the leader of a bunch of vampire hunters called Vampire Poison, and now he's in Thalos's thrall for however long he wants him to be.

The truth is - he doesn't want him to be his slave once he realises what he's done so he has to let him go his own way while he leads his life without the problem of having him around. Several years later, Dusty is the leader of Vampire Poison, and he has his own idea of who his victim will be - Thalos!

Vampire Slave Vol: 1 is a m/m story rather than Yaoi Press's unusual manga titles. They have undergone a change in direction toward erotic literature and it's really heated stuff. A plea is sent to Thalos at the beginning to help a child suffering from Leukaemia. If he can perform the blood ritual on him and make him his familiar, he can give the boy a new lease of life, but it's not as easy as he thought. Saving a life, and taking a life as well are two different things to others, and when another kid, Dusty sneaks in instead he makes life difficult for Thalos and the entire vampire race at the school - Dusty's father wants him to regress the blood ritual and make things right for his son, but there's no going back - he's his servant, his slave and that is when the trouble starts.

Thalos isn't the kind of bloodthirsty vampire to expect. He is humane and kind too, and he has a soft side he wishes more of his kind would notice. Most days he has his slave, Chantasy at his side when he needs to suck a little blood, but he isn't the type to hunt and kill prey. He is a lonely man and wants to finally find someone he can relate to who he can make love to without having to resort to looking at on-line escort sites in order to pay a whore for a little fun at night. Each time he does that it feels mundane, boring, it isn't him and at times he feels he may never find the right soul mate for him.

My Thoughts - I used to be into anime and manga in my teens, but then stopped. As I am a book reviewer, I decided to give it another go.

This is the first of Yaoi that I have read and although I didn't read the full description before purchasing, I thought vampires - it should be great.

I was surprised at this. I downloaded it free to my Kindle, but expected to find more images similar to what you would expect of a graphic novel.

The storyline was rather good and for something to read while on the plane, it filled in the time. It didn't take that long to read at all.

The erotic content was all right, but I didn't expect it to be on a homosexual view point. (Not that I have anything against it, however it was the first one I have read and I don't think it would be something I would enjoy reading again).

On the plus side, it was worth reading for free and at least I can say I have tried it.

My Rating - It was okay but I wouldn't read it again. I give this book the rating of 2 out of 5. It really is
a bit of a shame, as the story/plot does have good potential.

This review encompasses the entire series.

The cost to read the entire 5 book series is fairly steep. For a serialization, the expected cost is always higher, but at $0.99 for the first installment and $2.99 for each addition that follows, the reader will be spending a hefty $13 for what comes out to be about 175 pages of total story related content.

While the plot for the story is intriguing, the execution is a little disappointing. The writing reads like a first draft, lacking sensory detail. While characters enter different locations, there is limited detail of what the environment looks like, smells like, feels like. The characters are mostly left shallow and ambiguous. The details are left completely up to the readers imagination, with little direction from the writer.

Dusty's character is off putting. He is supposed to be the leader of the vampire slaying organization, but is easily angered and driven to tears. He childishly demands respect, while displaying few reasons why his subordinated should trust him with their lives. His frequent bouts of tears and whining leave no confidence that he could be a realistic vampire hunter, let alone a realistic leader.

Thalos is somewhat better as a character. A self proclaimed romantic, his actions are a little more believable, even if his attachment to Dusty is unfounded. While Dusty's attachment to Thalos is expected due to being "cursed" by Thalos as a child, Thalos never says that he felt a similar absence for Dusty while they were separated for those many years.

The series receives an "it was okay" marking because it is easy to see where the story could have been awesome. If the readers' imagination is up to filling in some enormous gaps while suspending some serious disbelief, it's an okay story.

I feel that this had a lot of wasted potential. At times it was hard to tell who was speaking, the dialogue was only decent on occasion and the best wording in the short story was regarding the sex appeal. It was incredibly short, which was only more irritating when I found that the last portion of the book was a teaser for a different series by the same author. Usually that wouldn't be a problem but it was more than 10% of the length of this already far too short story. I am aware that it is part of a series, but I don't feel the need to purchase the rest because it is not a graphic novel. It's an original fanfic with a striking picture and although it is creative, I've read better for free. The character Thalos was very developed - everyone else was not. The setting was bland and undescribed, I didn't really care about the villain at all and the story is short, resolves nothing and I don't enjoy having to buy 5 volumes of a story to get the actual story. This should've been released as a novel or as an actual manga. Because the hybrid leaves a lot of gray area.

This is for the whole 5 of the series. The way I feel about this serial was that it was.... Stupid!! that was my first thought, serious waste of time. I'm surprised I hated this story so much as I tend to really like most of this author's works, smh I'm very dissappointed with this thou. The MC's were frustrating in their own stupid ways, I disliked Dusty the most with his arrogant bratty immature wishy washy ( the list could go on forever) behavior & don't get me started on Thelos doormat weak pathetic clingy... ugh put up with crap behavior being the most powerful vampire creator!!! I felt like I was reading a story written by a 12 year old middle school girl!!! Staaay away from this total waste of time junk. Sorry Yamila but this was beyond dissapointing, you can do waaay better than this & I will still look to some more of your stories & chance that I'll either like, love or completely hate them like this one, because..... despite all of this I still believe in yooouuu!!!

Let me start by saying I could not finish this series. It is so boring and stereotypical, like a bad yaoi manga, and the characters are incredibly unlikable as well. Dusty, the boy mistakenly cursed to be the vampire's familiar, cries every five seconds and his vampire is very alright with being put down by his "lover" to keep up appearances... very healthy... The vampire also falls in love with Dusty almost instantly, giving me the feeling that this author has no idea of what love actually is.
Waste of my time, just hoping her other books are better because I have her whole "yaoi bundle."

What did I read?

I tried this as a way to broaden my horizons when it comes to book genres I always pick the same lot. Which if I'm honest aside from this being Manga, its pretty similar to usual things.

I like the fact it isn't shy about being same sex. Thats refreshing, and it isn't the reason why I don't like this book. I just don't, it isn't for me. There is a reason I've not gone near this genre.

I thought it was gonna be longer. I liked the overall theme. I want to see how Dusty and Thalia will develop.
